The first Christmas after my husband passed away my friends showed up with a full cooked breakfast to surprise me. It meant the world to me, and it made my day. I know the feeling of not wanting to be in a crowd that is celebrating and have to pretend you’re ok, so I get why the dad thinks he wants to be alone. As much as you guys are having fun and joking about some of these issues, I know this touched home, and I agree with your advice about the pop in by the family. Thanks for the laughs this year, and for a chance to just hang out with fun and funny Christian friends. God Bless, and Merry Christmas!

My wife's FIL and MIL said no to me when I asked to marry their daughter. It really shook me, but after thinking it over for a day, I called and ended having one of the most productive conversations with her father I had ever had. He told me what it would take to get his blessing (I did it and it honestly not only made me a better person but it also helped my relationship with my then girlfriend). Now we have been married for 7 years and I have the best relationship with my in-laws. Honestly, at the end of the day, I just think they were parents looking out for their daughter and they knew what she needed for our marriage to be successful.

These last two weeks have been epic😂! I stumbled upon your videos and then your podcast and accidentally listened to an entire podcast (I was driving in the rain at night and couldn't change what I was listening to safely). Ever since I've been hooked! Can't get enough of podcasts like yours that are hilarious and clean. You were my gateway drug to an obsession with finding similar comedians with podcasts and has also led me to Nate and the Nickersons! Thanks for introducing me to this great world of wholesome laughter!

Celiac here - I wouldn't eat a thing at that house. I don't care how hungry I get. I'll bring my own dish and my own utensils or eat before I go and after I get home. Not worth the sickness. Gluten will slowly kill the celiac over time, its not like an anaphylaxis thing. Autoimmune disorder.

I was thinking the same. Is there some ex-girlfriend that she was hoping would have been her daughter-in-law? Or she just doesn’t understand how serious Celiac’s can be? That DIL might need a doctor’s note to show to her MIL.

As someone with food allergies, I bring my own food. Celiac listener should be doing the same and if the MIL tries calling her out, tell her it's not worth being sick for days because nobody understands the severity... or just say that even if the MIL does use gluten free, that you've become so sensitive to cross-contamination that you had to get a new set of pots, pans and dishes and you don't want to trouble her with cooking for you. I personally would never trust her again to cook for me. I take food with me to all the holidays, family gatherings, etc. Only people I trust to cook my food is me and my husband (or someone under the direct supervision of me or my husband). My step dad thought I must have some really good food and snuck a bite once and told my husband it wasn't anything great. My husband tells me and said "he just doesn't get it". He tried explaining again to my step dad and he still doesn't understand. It's been over 9 years and my mom still tries to get me to eat food that I'm allergic to.

For sure the kids are watching the Grandparents - my cousins are in a definite turf war on who's the fav: the DC establishment couple with 3 kids were the favs, now the younger brother with 2 kids in Hebrew school have the upper hand. Forget the oldest brother who married and divorced within 5 years.

Oh my gosh the MIL giving her DIL gluten makes me irate just hearing about it. I am very against this whole “let’s cut our family off” trend these days - because it seems like everyone is doing that - but man this would be one of those rare occasions where I’d say… “yeah - don’t go back there” she sounds dangerous and downright insane.
@krystallindsey00875 күн бұрын
To the newly diagnosed celiac... my heart goes out to you, and I hope people understand the risk your MIL is really taking. My mom was diagnosed with celiac after giving birth to me in 1987, and she almost died many times because even the hospital didn't have a good grasp on it back then. This is not just a gluten allergy. ALSO, yes, John! Where is the husband?! 😮

The favoritism with grandkids is real and so frustrating. Unfortunately, the kids know. My daughter was 6 when she came to me and asked why Grandma didn't like her. 😢 I had to have a rough conversation and yes, I blamed my mother. Now that my daughters are 19 and 22 my mom wonders why they don't adore her. Maybe that's on me for being honest. But I think it's on her for openly favoring her grandsons over her granddaughters.

Question for guys... do you ask your potential future in-laws permission for marriage still? I was engaged in 2011, married in 2012, and my hubby took them out to dinner, with me there, after the fact and announced when and how he proposed, then he through it to me to give my answer, which was YES! AND then he said, "we would love your blessing, and on that note, I also want to earn it, so I'm ready for any question or conversation that you want to have right now." This makes me feel like it is situational because the way my hubby did it completely won my parents over. To this day, they love my husband. Also, in my family... you don't need my dad's permission or blessing. You have to get my mom's blessing.

Who cares why anyone chooses to avoid gluten! It’s their choice for their health. It has nothing to do with the person preparing food. If you don’t want to accommodate them, just say so. But don’t outright lie and purposefully put gluten in their food! She flipping lied! That’s is horrible for family relations. I wouldn’t go back for Christmas! If I did, I would certainly bring my own food and make a huge deal about it.
