Its wrong to compare legends of different eras. Both were equally great.

No...Don Bradman had higher average in the era where batting was more difficult...larger grounds, less protection.Speaking the truth, Don Bradman was double the better than Sachin...Not only because of his average but also facing difficult conditions.
@Rohan-gd5sy8 жыл бұрын
SHAHRIYAR HARIS One can also argue that life of Sir Don was less stressful, cricketing schedules were less demanding, bowling was not as evolved at it was when Sachin played, fielding standards were nowhere closer to the modern day cricket, etc...etc...etc. You dont have parameters except cricketing numbers to judge the two great cricketers of different eras. Hence, I feel people should just thank both these legends for providing fabulous entertainment and look out for greatest in current players.

As Rohan Bendre said bowling hadn't hadn't evolved yet, back then you couldn't set plans on how to get The Don out as well as when Sachin was playing he was going through those bowling plans like butter! Also The Don played far less tests than Tendulkar because of transport, he was pretty much going through bad form when he wasn't playing, the only transport back then was train or boat which means you would also go through 7 months on a tour and tests weren't limited back then nowadays they are (5) Sachin had to score runs far more quicker as well as The Don could take as long as he wanted. i'm going to stop now as i might be boring you.

I feel a bit for Tendulkar on this one. I searched youtube just now for Bradman and about fourth down on the list it starts comparisons between him and poor Sachin (note no comparison of Bradman with Hobbs, Headley, Sobers, Pollock, Lara etc). Wholly unfair and shows the pressure the guy must have been under throughout his career. You can in all honesty make a case for Sobers being as good a cricketer as Bradman but that’s it. Full stop. Tendulkar never claimed he was better than any of the older greats and it’s genuinely touching to listen to the genuine awe he has for Bradman and Richards. He comes out of this with a lot of credit for me. Wonderful player, good man.

As an Indian, I am obviously a very big Sachin fan. But comparisons are so unnecessary. Great players should be appreciated and that should be the end of that. I obviously never saw Donald Bradman play. You could argue he could have been tested more, since fifty test matches is a smaller sample and there was probably less variety in opposition bowling attacks but you just have to accept his average was astonishing, considering no one even in his era was remotely close. He simply must have been a truly unbelievable batsman, no arguments. But then when you think Gary Sobers could do pretty much everything with bat and ball and at a very high level, how can you not be in awe. Ian Chappell says he was the greatest batsman he ever saw, and Ian understands the game better than most. Viv Richards and Brian Lara were probably the most destructive and flamboyant stroke makers ever, real entertainers. I used to think Steven Waugh was an outstanding batsman under pressure, and that is an invaluable quality to possess all be it underrated. Tendulkar had a great career. For the first ten years of his career, when he was at his scintillating best, we were really average and he pretty much carried the Indian batting lineup. But even after his struggles with tennis elbow, his technique was good enough and adaptable enough to allow him to score runs in huge numbers. For me, I have never seen anyone with a better range of shots. I do not think he was the best batsman under pressure, but when people say he never won India matches, that is totally ignorant and untrue as well. He always had to carry the expectations of a billion fanatics. Hence to sum it up, it is better to have favorites rather than compare greats. Each one of them, has brought something unique to he game.

Sorry to reply you but Sachin played in a era whaere everything was comfoetable except helmets were a bit concern and also bowlers were really fast , but bradman was playing in a era which witnessed the WW2 and also he did not have any trainers,quality bats, pitches of that time are recorded as the worst and also that time players had to multitask and not only play cricket, so bradman has to do all things together along with cricket . Cricket every Ingle day is heading towards batsman favourite , in 1930s till 1990s bowling was ruling , so even in bradman era bowlers were really tough,that time there were no quality cameras and analysation so that time bowlers were not recorded perfectly and analysed , so today’s fuckers say those time bowlers were gully bowlers . But only bradman knows how tough were they, and also cricket boards are not too blind to simply declare bradman is the best , they analysed every aspect and declared he is greatest of all time, one simple example of how tough that time bowlers and pitches is 1936 Aus vs eng , Australia had to reverse their batting order to stay safe from that worst pitch and tough bowlers
@flamingfrancis3 жыл бұрын
You did not really think that one, or part of it, out very well. How many Test playing nations were there in the 1930's. When Australia travelled to England how long did the trip take to get there? When not playing Tests Bradman was busy playing Sheffield Shield games Those games frequently had oppositions that were close to Test level. Go and have a look at some of the scores Bradman (and some other Australian greats) compiled in their shield careers.
@sachin2659 жыл бұрын
Well my take on this is as follows: Bradman played 52 Tests and additional 182 FC matches in 12 years (1928-38 and 1946-48) in only just England and Australia. Tendulkar played 200 tests, additional 110 FC matches, 464 ODI's and 100+ 20/20 IPL games in 24 years in over 15 countries (include Canada and Singapore in the 90's, Malaysia ('06), UAE etc) and dont forget his 200 international wickets, while Don Bradman never bowled. Don played 33 (65%) tests in Aus and 19 (35%) in England...almost the same weather conditions and pitches in the 1920's and 30's in England and Australia. Can you imagine Tendulkar playing all his 200 tests as 130 Tests (65%) in India and 70 tests (35%) in SriLanka? He would have made 100 hundreds in Tests alone at an average of 90.00 with probably 250- 300 wickets to go with that. Don never knew burden of expectations. Population of Aus in 1930 was 6.4 million people and in 1948 just under 8 million people...and not everyone followed cricket. Crowds were divided between footy (AFL) and cricket. Compare that with 1 billion viewers in India that Tendulkar had to endure. Don only had the radio as primary means of communication in the 1930's (Aus's 1st ever TV broadcast was in Sept 1929, while TV coverage started from the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, long after Don retired). Tendulkar had National TV, Regional TV, Village TV, National Radio, Regional Radio, Village Radio, Mobile phone, Ads, Social Media, Emails etc as means of communication in his era. Don scored 715 runs against India in 5 Tests in 1947 when they were touring Australia. India just gained Independence from the oppressive British Rule few months ago...can you blame them for being thrashed?!? Imagine that Tendulkar played against Saudi Arabia in Delhi, Mumbai, Mohali, Calcutta and Bangalore. Would he not make a 1000 runs batting left handed while being blindfolded? Probably so! So Don's achievement cannot be really seen as a BIG WOW WEE moment! Don played only about 4 Tests/year, i.e. max 20 days of Test cricket in a year! Tendulkar played 8 Tests and 19 ODI's on average per year. That is a max of 59 days of cricket per year either batting or bowling. That is almost 3 times the workload in a career spanning double that of Don Bradman - truly amazing! But I need to concede that fitness levels in the 90's and 2000's were far better than the 1920's and 30's. Don played 23 Tests consecutively against England between Dec 1932 and Feb 1947 scoring 3000 runs and 11 Hundreds @ Avg of 88. Now imagine Tendulkar playing 23 Tests continuously against Australia whether home or away. He would have probably scored more runs (on avg he would have batted 38-40 innings) and same amount of 100's. So did Don really do that well? He did better than his peers surely but in today's modern terms its ok, nothing too great if you play someone 23 times consecutively! Don played against only 4 oppositions in Tests, Tendulkar played against 10 Test playing nations and against 16 countries in ODI's...quite amazing. I can keep going...but Im probably boring you by now! Cheers!

Bradman played during a time when there was no real protective gear for batsmen other than the basic (leg pads, guard and gloves), bowlers had no restrictions on bowling bouncers, and he played against England, which during his time was an incredibly strong team. Comparing them to Sri Lanka is a joke. Also, pitches in Australia and England are quite different. He also played against South Africa and West Indies, not just England. The reason why so little tests were played back then was because of the time it took to travel to other countries. Only way was the ship, which took a good month to go places. Comparing statistics like number of tests played and saying Sachin is better is the equivalent of saying modern bowlers are all much better than bowlers 30 years ago as even an average bowler these days takes over 300 wickets. When you play hundreds of matches it is easy to stack up.
@sachin2657 жыл бұрын
Tanvi, you're not paying attention in history or maths classes....depression was in United States, not in Australia. Bradman's career spanned 20 years, while ww2 was for less than 6 years (i.e. less than 30% of his career), so it was not "most his career". Tendulkar had no luxuries. in his teens he played 3 games in a day and practiced more after he got back home dead tired. He was better than his peers and superiors in all formats of the game. He stayed away from match fixing, deep controversy, laziness and confrontation off the field in most of his career. Fame, success, money did not go to his head. He did not get into drinking, smoking, drugs, girls, gambling either at home or overseas. He never ever left his humble self at any stage of his 24-year career. You think this was luxury? Why do you call him a pig? Did he hurt you personally in any way? You should be ashamed.

On what basis do one can compare them with each other????The people who compare, do they have any justification??? Just look at what he did for his team/country during his time. Don't compare me with sir Don bradman, I never believed in comparisons, i believed more in Player servings the game and sir don serve the game in the 20s,30s and also part of 40s to the best of his ability and people still talk about it,then you had sir Gary,sir Viv,sir gavasaker and no.of Great player and in my farewell speech also my message to my teammates was, look after the game in the best possible manner and set example for the next generation because you never gonna play this sport forever. You only look after in this sport for while and then pass on a wieght into someone else,So make sure that you look after it in the best possible way that people can be proud of you. and thats what i have done. So please stop comparing player with each other.

Sachem wasn’t a coward when he played. Read Douglas jardines book on bradman and Peter firths book on him. How he manipulated the English selectors now to pick quick bowlers.

In dons era he had a job outside of cricket, the pitches werent taken care of as much and they didnt have full time trainers like they do now. For Bradman to wht he did was incredible and if he played in this era he would be even better.
The comparison can be done only if both players are from the same era.

No-one compares with Bradman. He was just so much better than anyone who ever played. Tendulkar was about the same standard as Lara and Kallis. Sobers and Hobbs just a little better than that group. But no-one comes near the greatest ball sport player (not just the greatest cricketer) of all time - the Don!
