I live in the USA but only listen to your advice👍❤️ my indoor plants these days look amazing, thanks to your advice in correcting my mistakes🤞🏆. Also, to remember which day I watered I have little stickers that I write the date on.

This is how I water! Though I bottom watered ALL my plants for a solid months. (I have 70 plants) No more fungus gnats!! When I bring a new plant home, while it is in isolation, I spray it with insecticide and only bottom water it for the 3 weeks. The top soil dries out enough to kill the gnat cycle and I can be sure that no gnats are brought back into my house.

Moisture meters are the best - I always use 2-3 measurings of each pot. As a chronic overwaterer, it really taught me a good lesson and since I use it, I have never had any serious watering issues. I highly recommend it to everyone who struggles with overwatering like I did 🙂

Mr Plontguy, being a Swede myself it would be really cool with a in depth tutorial in do´s and don´ts when it comes to planting seeds, since it is nearing spring time in alot of places in the northern hemisphere. The most popular edible plants like tomato, cucumber, onion, potato, strawberries, when to start pre seedeing (förså) etc. It´s high time. What kind of soil to use in your EU-pall :D

moisture meter doesnt work (or better said, it works but gives wrong results) in chunky mix because of air gaps.

Would you be able to do a care tip video on spotted begonias please? I have just been gifted a huge spotted begonia cutting, that was taken off a mother plant that is apparently over 100 years old. I really would like to do my best by this plant, and your advice would be very valuable to me :)

I find it confusing to use a moisture meter because if you put it deeper than your finger, it's generally moist. Should I deep it the same distance I would deep my finger in the soil?

Same issue here. I noticed that my elephant ear is always moist on the bottom. I started putting in more perlite into the soil to dry out the soil and it works. I was told to water it every week, but it's more like every 2-3 weeks due to moist-ness on the bottom. It's still pushing out new leaves and stems, so I'm doing something right. :) Good luck to you and yours!

The only issue I have with bottom watering is unless you are aware the plants roots touch the bottom of the pot your plant will not soak up water if there is not roots there. There are alot of plants from plant stores that have the roots stop mid way inside the pot and they die very easily if you aren't aware of it and bottom water them instead of top watering. One of my friends bottom waters and this was the reason a huge chunk of her plants died - they were thirsty!

You have to wait between 10 mins up to one hour( depending on the soil) to take out your pot out of bowl of water.sometines it takes time to at least half of your soil get wet

thank you for your tips. they are extremely helpful. 👍 regarding the watering... when you let the soil dry completely how to prevent it from becoming hydrophobic. finding it difficult to soak once it becomes hydrophobic. please advise

Yeah, I have those problems too with my students' plants in the classroom. I poke holes in the soil, use a spoon/fork handle to mess up/mix up the soil a bit. The water will run through.

Thanks for the info. I just got a dwarf umbrella plant for next to my desk where it gets no natural light. I have set up a LBW Grow Light which has adjustable brightness and a 4/6/8 hour timer. How long should I have the light on it and at what power level? If possible I would like to have it on 8 hours just so I can look at it (i have a bunch of crystals in the pot too and like the way the glint in the light. Do you have any advice? There is a video on my channel of me planting it and where it is placed. Thanks!

Well I have a Fittonia in a pot with no drainage holes, and it seems to love it, because the soil likes to be moist at all times. I tried with drainage holes, and once I let it dry out one day too many, and it died. I guess I could try a humidity pebble tray, but it's happy. For now 🤷🏽♀

Who has enough time to let every plant drain for half an hour? I’d have to water around the clock. I worry about spreading pests if I have multiple plants soaking together.

I've killed most of my plants using these methods. My String of (everything) all died, my mini monstera died, my PHILODENDRON almost died. I can't tell when the dirt is too dry or not dry enough or whatever. The plants just DIE. I need a device that tells me exactly what the stupid plants want, because I DO NOT speak plant. I can watch all the videos, read all the articles, get all the books and no matter what kind of plant I get, I KILL IT. I love plants, but I'm really good at killing them.

Probably your soil mix stays too wet for too long. Roots needs oxygen as much as they need water. Try to mix your soil with perlite, pumice, bark, or choco chips or anything like that to keep it much more airy. Alternatively you can also just buy Lechuza Pon like I do and make it really simple :)
