Fantastic! I was 10 years old again. ”It's okay Dad I can put it back together again” I learned not repack your bicycle pedal bearings on the front lawn. You need more than 4 ball bearings. 😂

Now this is good video! The table with “appropriate” tools for the job, and the screen shot of the electronic tech, thoughts of maybe looking inside one of the batteries...I’m still grinning. 😂

Pretty sure why these units were "canned" by the FAA for, detailed reason. The primary PCB "wave" automated soldering was a bit sketchy, a few spots not enough solder. The bigger problem the switches, LED, jacks etc. A number of places poor soldering for a unit installation in a vibration environment. Not enough solder around the legs to have optimal dependability. In the trash it goes, not worth the risk to keep it installed.

Either the soldering process controls at the factory are poor, or someone had already been inside that ELT. The circuit board looked awful where the BNC connector and the toggle switch had been installed. And there's no way you pulled loose a DPDT switch that had been correctly soldered on all six pins.

I was going to write the same thing. The cable broke too. It was using a solid wire and broke with a slight bending action. That brand name ELT is JUNK

@@Neilazbiker You're supposed to give wires & cables a little tug to make sure it's secured anyways.

Someone HAD obviously already been inside previously. The display LED was missing before he even started. The switch had been unsoldered previously too.

Once you reach the circuit board in the disassembly proses you’ve reached the realm of MAGIC. Send it off the people who have the knowledge and tools to put the smoke back in the circuits.

ELT: Jon, When my yellow ELT went dead I contacted the battery MFG. and he said he couldn't sell me that battery as it is make for the mfg. of the ELT. He did have, however a similar battery for a fraction of the cost. I purchased his batteries five years ago and still working fine. Ron with Viking RV12

Had the same unit start broadcasting the alert all by itself, had to unplug the power cord inside to stop it

Please disassemble an oil pressure sender with the goal of figuring out why they indicate pressure higher than actual.

I can think of a lot of things: an airspeed indicator, an altimeter, a VSI, vacuum and electric gyros, prop governor, pretty much everything you didn't put together from generic parts.

Uh, isn’t lithium a heavy metal? As in poisonous? I think it’s extremely unwise to open that without a respirator and gloves and then you have to dispose of it properly. Glad you acknowledged that.

How can it transmit if antenna gets ripped off during crash? I was told by inspector its most worthless device on airplane.

It's supposed to be mounted in a well protected area of the aircraft, preferably right behind the passengers and near the center of the airframe.

The funny thing is, they charge you another $500 dollars for the longer lasting version of the ELT... which is really just 2 more batteries you can install yourself. And its disconcerting that the toggle switch fell off that easily. And the G-switch also.... wow, really piss poor quality.

The G switch slides onto a tube that protects it from flexing and breaking off. They could however mount it flush to the PCB, less flexing on that base leg.

How about looking inside a fuel tank? All you'd have to do is to dump out most of the fuel and use a cutting torch to open the tank for inspection, What could possibly go wrong?

How about the owner/pilots head, just curious to know if there is any gray matter or just rocks in his head.... here's another thought, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"!
