Helpful Tip! If you do any epoxy layups. Keep your scrap Polyester fabric. It can be used as peel Ply. If storing scrap pieces of fabric, for glass peel Ply. Roll it up as nicely as possible. Don't fold it, it's much harder using it as peel ply with wrinkles.

At about 8:00 minutes you say to use drill #12 which is slightly larger than 3/16, however the rivet is 3/16 ? Is that correct ?
@HomebuiltHELP4 күн бұрын
Yes, it is common practice to make the rivet hole slightly larger than the rivet. Otherwise - you will spend a lot of time just getting the rivet in the hole. Try a few both ways and you will see for yourself!

Probably a dumb question, but why rely on drawing a perfect centerline on both sides (error-prone), and not simply use the gusset as a template to punch and drill ? (less error-prone). At least that's what it seems to me, what am I missing ?
@HomebuiltHELP4 күн бұрын
You can certainly use the gusset as a template, but - for the accuracy I am after - you still need a good centerline to align the gusset on each side. If the gusset is just a little skewed when transfering the holes - nearly all the holes will be "off". Whatever works for you is best!

On the argument about reusing nylock nuts: You should definitely follow A/C 43.13 as noted here. But notice that the circular doesn't list nuts smaller than 7/16", which are the majority of the bolts/nuts on homebuilt aircraft - 3/16" and 1/4" are both very common. Since no torque values are listed for those bolt sizes, you should not reuse those nuts. "DO NOT reuse ... if the nut cannot meet the minimum prevailing torque values. (See table 7-2)" How can you meet the minimum prevailing value in table 7-2 if it's not listed? You can't. You should replace those nuts. They're only about $0.25 each, so why not just replace them? Your life is worth more than the $5 you'll spend in replacement nuts in the lifetime of your airplane.

How think and how wide a piece will this work for? Example...if I wanted to get a 90 degree bend in 1/4 inch thick polycarbonate that is 24 inches across, would that be reasonable? Also, with such a bend in thicker (1/4") polycarbonate, how much is it weakened? Would applying some amount of heat reduce that?

I have a 1978 Honda Goldwing- 20 yrs ago it was impossible to find a new OEM fuel pump. I installed a facet 1-4 psi pump and it has performed flawlessly all these years.

Wish I’d seen this video prior to replacing all the hose in my SLSA the other day. The 15 yr old Gates 30R7 in my always hangared plane was in great shape but in the wing root area it was losing its flexibility. Cabin area didn’t need replacement at all but access was easy so I did anyway.

Do you still have this plane? I noticed this is the only video you ever made where you flew it. What happened, did you sell it? Did it crash? Why are there no more videos of you flying this?

Thats ehy we do checks it is an aeroplane and you should plan an inspection and if it wears change it may take 15000 hours an people get ultralight aircraft like this and trybto compare it to a fighter jet it does not have the loads and does not require to be build like a tank

The Spitfire went from 1000 hp to over 2000 hp over the course of the war. The main problem is torque so stronger mounting points of the engine and a larger more effective rudder were the two main requirements. That and a fully switched on pilot.

Well, the question "Can your Homebuilt Aircraft have Too Much Power?" was not answered. I also did not hear any discussion of possible rudder authority being insufficient to overcome engine torque at low airspeeds in an overpowered aircraft.
