Brett, you forgot sandbags. With a stand that tall you should have at least two-better three-10 lb sandbags laid across the legs of the microphone stand. For safety’s sake. Taking this further, I have converted to battery operated equipment whereas I can sit directly at the base of the mike stand with the only (short) cables being from the microphones straight down to my Sony PCM-D10. Safety first (no cables snaking about, no time needed for taping), and clean power second (no ground loops, no dimmer buzz). I’ve been recording bands, orchestras and choirs since the 1970’s when I had to drag a 50 pound Revox A-77 open reel beast to the sessions. Thanks for posting!

Thanks for your comment. If I used extended boom arms then it's possible I would need a sand bag, but I don't for choirs and I have yet to need sand bags for my stands, if I get concerned with tipping or stand getting bumped I will use gaff tape on each of the legs of the stand. Thanks!

Hi Brett, nice tutorial, I recently recorded a choir (Amateur Choir including myself!) I used two sets of mics, one XY Position the other ORTF. Worked very well. Mixed in logic.Mics were Behringer B-5 (Very quiet and underrated in my opinion) and the recorder was Zoom H8. P.S. I don't hear any stereo.

I'm a bit curious as to why did you reduce the lows (bass voices)? Excellent recording and mix, btw. Loved this video.

On the master bus I had a cut at 20-25 hz which would be inaudible. I did do some expansive bass cut on an eq on the reverb channel which is a taste thing and doesn't impact the audio signal, only the reverb. Thank you for watching!

Is it me or the recording sounds mono without the added reverb? With an audio recorder you don't need a computer, table and all those cables.

Did you record them while the channels were panned?

why no hall reverb instead?

Good question. I actually started with Avid's "Space" reverb and used a European Church setting. But somewhere in the mix, it wasn't grabbing me and then I put the Valhalla Vintage Reverb on at the default setting which actually is called "Concert Hall" and tweaked from there, along with some post eq. I get that it can be subjective. Had I not liked what I got I would have gone on a deeper quest into other options. Personally, I don't get hung up on Plates, Rooms, Halls, Studio or whatever, I just go with something that works for me. Thanks for the question.
