I used to work 2nd shift and I'd get home about 1am. My wood pile was underneath our vapor lamp and when the sap was frozen I could really pop 'em. Always used a single or double bit. I just never got the hang of a maul. Been where you've been, so many of us have.

Looked liked some tough wood to split. Do you have a big ol spitting axe .
