This clearly written by an recruiter with no knowledge of the industry. You see this a lot in corporate job applications, written by an HR person who has no knowledge or basic understanding of what a department does and goes on writing without checking with the hiring manager the actual requirements

Doesn't matter if it's a mega club or a smaller one, if I had a UEFA A (or pro) license, it would be a good old "fuck you, pay me" situation to actually coach.
@Jojo.R.ChipelagoКүн бұрын
This is a classic "entry level salary, at least 10 years work experience required" situation. Happens all the time in the tech industry, not sure if other workers see this in other industries, but from my experience, this is happening often, just not with this level of publicity.
@kierendavidson3276Күн бұрын
This is absolutely absurd. First of all, I wouldn't want to work for Birmingham City even if they paid me to do it with no qualifications, but secondly, as you stated, it's a lot of time, and even more money to obtain. Currently, I have a Uefa C licence, two tiers below this, and that's taken me nearly 5 years to get experience and put the time in, before going for all the qualifications. In total I've already spent over £700 on coaching courses, and it only gets higher from there. The Pro licence is 10k I believe, and the course is 4 years I think. To ask someone who's put that much time and money into getting themselves into that position to work for free is one of the stupidest things I've ever seen a club do.
@A22337Күн бұрын
Isn't UEFA C a pretty basic course that is open to basically everyone? UEFA B and A of course much more advanced but here I know about quite a few pretty inexperienced amateur/part-time coaches who finished those in their mid-twenties. But I'm in Sweden, I've heard there are a lot more barriers to courses in England.
@kierendavidson3276Күн бұрын
@A22337 It is a basic course, and you're right, I'm 23 and have my Uefa C licence, it wasn't particularly difficult to get, my point was that I've spent (probably) more time than necessary getting to that point, but it's also expensive, which again was the point I was trying to get at. There's 4 courses you need to complete before it which are in the range of £50-150 each, then the C Licence was around 350 in total.
@A22337Күн бұрын
@@kierendavidson3276 Ah I see. Are the courses good though? Do they add value compared to just practice coaching? Or is it more like you do the courses to get a licence, otherwise doors and career paths will close?
@kierendavidson3276Күн бұрын
@A22337 The first 3 courses are essentially sitting in a zoom call for a few hours, listening to someone tell you how to coach, then at the end you get your qualifications. The C licence is a little bit different, split into 3 parts. Part 1 is listening to people talk on zoom, part 2 is some coursework you need to complete and part 3 is a practical assessment, where you're given a group of 14-18 players to work with for 20 minutes. It's a bit backwards at times, but all courses are required to complete in order to coach. Most clubs will fund the first 3-4 courses, as that's all that's required to coach U-18s and below.

A) a professional club is looking for unpaid labour. Gross. That’s my first take away. B) volunteer must have a UEFA A license. What? Why would any holder of this license give their skills away for free? C) if no one replies, will they get desperate enough to hire lower and lower skilled respondents? D) how long until Z applies to this position?
@BraddowskiКүн бұрын
Sounds like they had an ex-pro in mind externally who was working on a pro licence but had to leave their last club before completing it. For Birmingham to pay them expenses, training etc they would have needed to put up an advert to show fair recruiting practices.

Yeah, this seems like the kind of job posting where they already know exactly the candidate they’re going to hire beforehand, and they just have to post out of transparency. Otherwise, this is pretty crazy. 😂
@ichibaopac2860Күн бұрын
I was thinking the same. Whenever I play FM I regularly encourage my older players to take coaching courses and perhaps this is an ex-pro, their career may have been cut short by injury but still earning money, who is interested in a hybrid role of sorts.

Also on the topic of licenses... I learned from the research of La Media Inglesa that England is one of the countries in which obtaining UEFA licenses is the hardest (few spots) and most expensive (sometimes 5 figures per course). Spain has like 5 times the amount of licensed coaches as England for example. And it's being considered by some English would-be coaches to just go abroad and get the degree sooner and cheaper on the rest of Europe then go back to England.

I reckon I can guess what really happened: someone in HR had to do a job posting, so they used the last job they'd posted for as a starting point, changed a few bits but not all and accidentally posted it. As soon as they noticed they took it down but unfortunately not soon enough. That's exactly the sort of stupid **** that happens in the corporate world, regardless of industry.

It looks like those LinkedIn AI posts where the point is to get people to send CVs by advertising a fake job that doesn't exist. That way when you need to fill a lower position you have a long list of overqualified people who need a job and would have took more responsibility for the same money.

First thought was maybe that allows someone inexperienced to get some hours on the CV or something. Then I realized that requirement means that anyone who has it already is way past that. So they're just cheap. Classic job description, we want a highly experienced professional and we're gonna pay nothing for it. That shit should be illegal or at least you should be allowed to spit in the faces of people who decide thats a good idea.
@JasonCliftJonesКүн бұрын
Yeah, they have to be publicised. It's prob for a player such as Lukas Jutkiewicz who is doing their coaching badges (at least a UEFA B per LinkedIn), transitioning them towards the coaching staff ready for when they hang up their boots.

Ruben Amorim didn't have the license when he started managing at Sporting, and he came from Braga, one of the top teams in Portugal. It's not only expensive, but also extremely time consuming, which is why a lot of retiring players complain about that rule in Portugal. They don't have the time to start working on their license while still playing, which means that, to follow the rules, they'd have to be a couple of years without an income while spending a crazy amount of money to get the necessary licenses.

Don't discount this may just be a position to allow a Coach to finish their UEFA PRO License, As you said these are work place qualification and If a person has recently lost their job mid course Birmingham could just be looking to help out whilst boosting the mentorship for their Senior Academy Teams.

There’s not a lot of licensed coaches in the U.S. because the USSF doesn’t offer enough courses. They have a ton of courses in the Midwest and western part of the country. If you live in the East, not in NY ur basically forced to go across the country multiple times. It’s a ridiculously faulty system and it’s sad for people like me who want to grow there coaching but cannot afford to get there licenses.

A license is very expensive and very gatekept/underfunded, so you're talking probably a 5 year wait of consistent coaching betwen B and A at a minimum unless you're well connected or an ex-pro. The coach I tutored with got his B license at 21. He was 28, working full time at the FA and coaching 4 evenings a week on top and applying every year for the A license and couldn't get in. That's asking someone with already thousands of hours unpaid coaching, years and years in education and studying, and easily north of £10,000 outlay to volunteer. Absolutely disgusting.

If the coach is going to work at most 4 hours per week one can assume he or she will assist with one or two training sessions per week, likely planned by a head coach of that age group. So the need for an education up to UEFA A is not very obvious.

The volunteer position is for someone with an A licence to be able to get some on the job experience. The A licence is a 12 day course spread out over 12 months and costs £3k... You need to have the A licence AND be in FULL TIME employment in a coaching role to be eligible to apply for a Pro licence. To get full time employment as a coach you're going to need experience actually coaching players and you get that experience by volunteering at places like Birmingham, whose most recent academy product was Jude Bellingham. Do a good job at Birmingham and they might offer you a permanent position or at least give you a decent reference. It's called moving up the ladder, only ex-players start at the top and everyone else has to work their up from the bottom.

I think getting a license to coach is ridiculous. Maybe this is the American in me, but either you know the sport or you don’t. You dont need a license. Seems like another money grab by fifa. Im pretty sure a player who played at the highest level understands the game and the dressing room better than some guy with a license.
