A recommendation on Crawlers/Mustang spam: Do vertical positions for your Sledgehammers. With how the AI does targeting they will waste shots, and this is compensated with a vertical positioning as they cycle their guns instead of wasting shots. Doing this you can do upwards of 3 Crawler groups with a single Sledgehammer group, with HP and damage to spare.

In the first game you were loosing the value war twice over, both because you kept borrowing from the next round and because the shields only help the round you buy them. You could have paid for 3-4 extra units or some tech upgrades that then help *every* round. The second game you again over invested in mines that again don't give continuous value. Also doubling down on the Overlords could have totally worked. When they countered your air you could counter with your *tech* pick. Phoenixes or marksman are countered by having your overlords spawn wasps to distract them. Mustangs or enemy wasps are pretty well countered by the auto-repair upgrade. You don't always need to use *units* to counter or diversify.

The instqnt level skill specialist missed combo makes me cry
@znail4675 Жыл бұрын
I think both matches is a case of tilting as recycling the unit was an over reaction to making a mistake that only makes it worse. It was a far from useless unit. But apart from that so do I think the main mistake I see is over diversifying. It doesn't cost much to do that early on, but when you pay 200 to unlock a unit and another 2-300 to upgrade your only copy, then that is a lot to spend if you don't get something significantly new. The Sledgehammers did mostly what the Vulcan or Fortress do and had already the armor upgrade, getting more of them would have boosted the army quite a lot more cost effectively.
@Beaglerush Жыл бұрын
Agreed on both counts, I think in hindsight the Vulcan would have saved me pain in the first match against those high level crawlers.

Definitely have fell in love with this game. I can definitely understand how =intrusive thoughts= can make you trip over especially if you've been losing the early rounds, but I definitely think it's incredible that "win more" is not as prevalent as it usually is in this game.

Ironically enough, what you needed was more stormcallers, as more will overwhelm the mustangs intercept quicker, as it becomes progressively worse at intercepting. The mistakes were trying to counter Fortresses with Fortresses, and putting those extra low level arclights in. You needed Overlords with ground cannon, or meltingpoints, and more stormcallers. Play economically to your current strengths and look to counter theirs.

Stop going into so much debt when you're not dying, dude. Taking the L for a single round is OK, repeatedly going into debt because you're 50 credits short of something for several rounds in a row that you lose anyway is just handing your enemy the win. e: I don't want to sound too harsh, but it seems you just have a reflex to push that button whenever you're unsure what to do with your leftover cash and it's a bad habit.
@Beaglerush Жыл бұрын
Definitely got into a bad habit of debting too much in these two rounds. Debt can be addicting!
@TheMoonlitFaerie Жыл бұрын
I think this is dead on and beags approach comes from a good instinct - money now buys you an advantage that steamrolls etc - and it absolutely holds true in starcraft and so on which really dominates the videogame strategy theory. But winning a round in this game doesn't confer you any advantage. A player at 1hp is as dangerous as a player on 4200hp, with one key difference. They didn't just give away 600 resources trying to secure an advantage that isn't really there, and has set themselves up for future success.
@Westonsammy Жыл бұрын
It's so funny because on stream he constantly goes into debt and whenever we see him click that tower we all shout "NO DEBT" at him religiously xD. It's good to see KZbin pick up the habit too
@GophTheGreat Жыл бұрын
@@TheMoonlitFaerie There actually is a tangible advantage to winning rounds: unit XP. Sweeping the opponent and keeping your power units on the board means they gain levels and your army's "value density" takes off hugely.

I wonder if Stormcallers with the range upgrade could have helped negate the fortress advantage?
@Kelmort Жыл бұрын
to be honest, i though his placement was shit. you do not want your artilery to fire first, instead, you want them to run a little bit so they can pick a juicier target or any front line where the little stuff collide. You lose maybe one salve, two at most, by being a little further, but it's much safer, and your first salve land instead of flying over the rushing target.
@Kyle-774 Жыл бұрын
Missile intercept is very good when you have a couple mustangs, but they play more of a supporting role rather than making up the bulk of ones army. AKA if the rest of the army is strong enough, then it is good.

Can you explain the reason for recycling your units? You only have 2 units to drop even if its bad at the moment there are ways to pivot to make it work. Instead, by recycling, you lose a unit and yes you gain resources but I don't think you get the drop back...
@Beaglerush Жыл бұрын
Without watching over the moments again specifically, in my memory I think they were just really early big investments and I felt I needed to get all that money back in order to pivot to something else quickly. In hindsight keeping them around probably would've helped more though with stuff like the Crawlers in Match 1, so don't take it as a great decision from me, likely it was a mistake!

I dunno doubling down can work if you double down hard enough and get the right rng. When your doubling down with four more speed-upgraded level-two healing-photon-whirlwind-rage rhinos every turn until literally the entire deployment line is covered in them there isn't really a sensible counter beyond air. And if you already had anti air deployed....
@znail4675 Жыл бұрын
The problem here was not that he doubled down, but that he unlocked a new unit that did what he already could do. Doubling down on what he had wouldn't have been nearly as bad as taking out a loan to unlock something that he later recycled.
@Beaglerush Жыл бұрын
Agreed - done right, aggressively spamming one thing so hard can open up a gap between you and the enemy's ability to effectively stop it if they don't jump on it fast or know the right ways to do so. In general though I think this other kind of 'doubling down' can be a big trap, where you keep building an army that fights in the same way and is thus easier to defend or beat with a single reply.

Live commentary makes for easier videos, but I think you get too lost in the explanation of the decision tree (which is an important part of learning the strategy of this game!), that you forget what the good decision actually is. Leading to you saying one thing and doing the other and undermines the video a bit. Also in general, health is a resource and optimizing winning every round isn’t good, its fine to take some losses.
@Beaglerush Жыл бұрын
I try to win rounds a lot more lately to not lose the XP advantage! Live commentary can lead me to not spend as long actually thinking, but I do pretty well in my streams, so I think I just need to get used to it. I might try different styles of commentary for YT and see what lets me get the best play in!
