Since hearing about (and using) the column formation for sledges, I have begun using the technique for all sorts of units other than. For example I used column formation phonexes with a bonus to damage to get better target prioritization on a front line of steelballs. I used column formation on Mustangs to make them significantly more effective against wasps, and crawlers. From observation, it appears as though what it does is improve the ability of any group of units to target multiple separate targets at once past the first volley where each line initially meets. What happens when two symmetrical lines meet is that the first round of shots are at the front line, which always results in an inconsistent death across that line. Some units will simply survive that quarter second longer. From there each mob tends to target *individuals* still alive and forward in the opposing line. The column formation just helps a unit pick separate targets smoothly throughout their engagement. The two primary disadvantages are 1. that it takes longer to bring the entire units damage up to speed meaning its slightly worse at taking out tankier opponents, and 2. That the unit clumps in a tighter, circular formation that makes it much more vulnerable to AOE.

The Vulcan I feel definitely was your biggest single linchpin that the opponent never bothered to deal with. Your center line was getting completely obliterated by a mass of sledges screening for lvl 3 crawlers, which would then eat everything before taking out the towers; the Vulcan on round 5 put a stop to that completely, but was also the ONLY thing stopping it. The opponent ignoring the Vulcan entirely seems like a missed opportunity on their part. It's like the reverse of one of your matches from your streams: You had a big strong Vulcan that was wrecking the enemy forces, but a single call-in pointed directly at the Vulcan led to a catastrophic loss.

All it would have taken was one unit of balls at the back (so they come in later) and the Vulcan would have folded. So yeah, that ended up being a solid example of why you need to answer Vulcans.

I'd like to see your take on the survival mode. Ive been struggling with it a lot but i'm also kind of shit. The main thing is the rng choice for units, im not sure how to tackle that.

Survival mode isnt balanced, i can beat expert ai easily but normal survival is a toss-up. PvP is the main focus of the game. The main issue is that the rounds are so variable, a setup beating one round can be useless for the next. Your best bet is to try and build a force that can deal with everything, but very likely you'll end up in a situation where building jack-of-all-trades is going to lose to specialised armies.

Nope. Phoenixes do not fire missiles. Mustang interception works on Stormcallers, Sentinel Missiles and somewhat on Overlord attacks. Not sure if they work on inferno/emp volley/Anti-Air volley from Vulcans/Melting Points/Fortresses though. Word of caution, they do not work on the call ins like the missile card.

Is "Mass Produced X" ever worth it? The gap would only expand round after round as the units level up, so they are only useful for the first one or two rounds if you desperately need something, but the first few rounds usually are the least consequential in terms of damage done to your HP anyway.

I think Mass Produced can be great actually, especially with elite where it lets you get more units out quickly. Quantity has a quality of its own, something you get a taste for once you can put down like 8 units of 100 cost sledgehammers in the first 5 rounds.

Something else to consider too is breakpoints - Sledges are usually anti-crowd killers. So if they're already one-shotting enemies like crawlers, losing a bit of damage isn't as punishing. Meanwhile, if they're already getting one-shotted by things like Phoenixes, losing the HP doesn't hurt too bad either.

It's circumstantial. Just, never take it if you are Cost Control Specialist, the penalties and unit deployment limit combine to make it a farce.

I’m left wondering if you wouldn’t have done much better by simply going Wasps in Round 2. The opponent had NOTHING that fired upwards for multiple rounds and one swarm of Level 2 Wasps would have absolutely ruined his day and forced him to switch up his unit comp.
