That damage you showed was not caused by air drying clothes.

Interesting video but I have a hard time believing that drying clothes inside can do that damage or harm. I was brought up in the 1960's in Canada when no one had a dryer. We hung clothes outside in the fine weather but for 6 months they were hung up in our basement on washing lines. No discussion of mould, dampness, structural damage to the house, etc.

Damp and mould is definitely more likely than structural damage. That's extreme case scenario. Mould grows above 70% humidity so it all depends on ventilation of your home & how they were built. Modern homes are built to be insulated and air tight (ish) to avoid heat loss. Older houses have gaps everywhere where new fresh air can come in and old air escape. None of this is a certainty but it does increase the chances. Much like smoking doesn't guarantee cancer but it really doesn't help.

I have been hanging up clothes in several apartment complexes and never had any mold or mildew problems. I use a two tier tripod stand and three folding clothes stands. My apartment is very small. It may take a day to three days to dry. I am 66 years, three months and 16 days as of my comments. Although I am a senior citizen, I wear children junior, petites and women clothing. I take great care of my belongings and they look new even years later. Thanks for sharing your video via KZbin. Also thanks for reading my comments. Smiles

In the UK it makes a massive difference and DOES cause mold and damp (condensation) . Our climate is pretty cold and damp so any added moisture from clothes drying indoors without a good dehumidifier can be significant

@@ChrissyM232 I have also seen recommendations to dry clothes in a room with a fireplace or wood stove if available. These really dry out the air and of course, help the clothes dry faster.

Here in CO it's actually nice to have a little extra moisture in the air. Less lotion and chapstick, lol.

A dehumidifier will take moisture from the air, regardless of whether you have a load of washing out or not. I grew up in the 80s in Scotland and assure you, nobody had damp and structural damage due to drying washing. The humidity from the air on a wet day here is often more than when there’s washing out. As long as the house is ventilated and heated, it’s fine. A dehumidifier will help to dry your clothes quicker though.

A dehumidifier will certainly take water out of the air whether or not you have washing out, however with washing out it tends to hit between 70-80%. Just this past weekend I was at a clients house where he dried clothes inside, it was a newish build with great insulation but not great for ventilation. His house was 76% humidity when I got there.

I have 4 hygrometers around my house. I can assure you the humidity is always higher when drying clothes inside compared to a wet day.

tenants take note... buy a clothes dryer either condenser dryer or tumble dryer or 2 in 1 washing machine and dryer. don't be cheap. your landlord won't like it when you cause property damage by condensation, mold etc

Not if you open every single window and put Fan on too

All the problems you described can only happen if your house have a constant humidity problem...otherwise everyone using a shower would have mold lol. Drying your clothes indoor won't cause you any problem.

Everyone using a shower without opening a window or ventilating using an extractor will cause you to have mold unless your house has a lot of holes & gaps. A new build house would be damp so quickly if you dried clothes inside without ventilation or dehumidifier.

drying clothes indoors is a long term issue. People dry clothes inside their house for 12 hour periods. You don't have 12 hour showers. If you do one wash a day and dry it in your house every day you would have a constant humidtiy problem and to be honest so many households in the UK have this exact problem. Humidity around 70% day in day out due to drying clothes.

What about the 10 seconds to write the comment? Was that included in that? Or did you think "that's wasted my time" so I'll go spend some extra time writing a comment?
@Neil-uw5jr4 ай бұрын
@@doitmyselfrunza that was an extra 10 seconds and this is an additional 20. So altogether we’re looking at a couple of minutes now. Can you send me an invoicing address to send the charges for my time? Thanks
