I did the same. I also quit DirecTV service and made my own "Over the air HDTV Antenna" using plans from the internet. Very simple. I get 43+ channels and have saved: $130 X12X10 = %15,600 so far! Do I miss ESPN and SEC Network? Yes. Did I watch College football all day yesterday? Yes. So nice to rip up all those "free offers" from cable companies!

It will over time, save you money, taste way better, and will be healthier for you. Time to think about being self-sustaining. Christmas gifts--now that's funny! People here in San Diego are financially hurting, and I see this whole thing going seriously sideways soon, especially with all the layoffs and shortening of hours. My wife (who's Italian) and I are thinking seriously about returning to Italy, because life there is so much better (and cheaper). Also, people there are friendlier, and the food and culture are amazing; in fact, I would hardly consider what we eat in this country to be food. The guy with the mansion, he was selling the house, somehow it got listed as a foreclosure, The woman filed with the county and got the deed transferred, aparently no one has to prove anything in south carolina to have deed transferred. Every one on my list is getting home canned blueberry jam made with the blueberries we grow on our land. Along with the jam will a card and either some home made muffins or a mini loaf of quick bread. That’s it. I make gluten free and vegan baked goods too so those are always appreciated by my friends.

No deals pronouncement. 1. Do you have an understanding that when you go into a Walmart or Target that each store buys and stocks merchandise based upon sales at the individual store and NOT that every store gets the same product and the same amount of product? Welll, gee whiz, everyone knows that. And that basis businessmen make decisions as to what to stock. When you have a Black Friday sale on televisions (as there is every year, come boom times or depressions), the store owners have negotiated a big contract months in advance on the favorable terms available. So China is in a bigger slide than the US, so expect some good t.v. bargains. When you buy toys, the contracts are signed in March and April, the product delivered in about October and stored in warehouses on skid row in Los Angeles. The business people read the Financial Times and industry publications. They try to avoid overbuying and underbuying. Apparently, they do better than "the consumer" who is purportedly tapped out. If "the consumer" were actually tapped out, no one would be going to Disneyland, buying netflicks, or dining out at all. You keep hearing on youtube how things are bad and getting worse. I was fortunate to be born when housewives did not have cars, people were not taking trips to Las Vegas or the Bahamas for a week, buying their kids cars. There was no Disneyland. And, then your parents would tell stories about the Depression. There is always someone advising you to plant a garden. Really? I have a garden. I am the manager of a farming LLC. I can't raise enough food in my garden to feed me. Gardening is also not free. Assuming that you don't live in an apartment, how many tomatoes are you getting off one plant? I will describe real gardening. The 101 freeway was put in about 60 years ago. All of the farms along the route were bought by the state. My family went for days picking all the fruit and my mother spent days cooking it up and canning it. We had years worth saved. People don't do that anymore. So get real. Follow some of Dan's suggestions. If you have done your spending planning, it doesn't matter if there are sales and bargains on Black Friday, High Tech Monday and Christmas.

you are spot on about a garden. we decided a couple years ago to put in a little bit of grass in our backyard desert landscape. it's a circle about 10 ft across. our water bill has increased by twice as much. trust me, we don't over water. i can't imagine trying to have a garden and all the money to set that up and manage and hope for a decent harvest. canning and such is not cheap. and i do not have time, i work 2 jobs. and i gave up eating plants a year ago. best thing ever. saves tons of money, as i always bought organic. high quality meat, butter, eggs, cheeses, salmon etc. is cheaper grocery bill than when i bought all the other foods. and my gut is better, my skin is better, my gums and teeth are better. no gardens for me. my sister has a small patio garden and she enjoys it as a hobby per say. instead of a couple pots of flowers on her patio, she has her pepper plant and tomato and cucumbers growing. works for her altho not enough to sustain her nutritionally nor save her any real money.

Having chickens for eggs is like the garden situation. We pay more for eggs than if we bought them at the supermarket, a lot more. One time my husband figured we paid about 30$ a dozen. They are just pets with egg benefits.

I work at a whole sale sign shop. I just drive between phx and Tucson doing deliveries. I get a minimum of 50 hours. If i want 60 or 70 hours, no problem.

I haven’t been to a shopping mall in years or any Black Friday deals. There’s nothing listed on those sales that anyone wants. I walked in Walmart not knowing it was Black Friday day a couple of years ago and there wasn’t anyone in the store to speak of . Yesterday I went to Walmart and I seen at least 5 couples with calculators and list shaking their head saying well we’re not getting that today we’re not getting this today. We’ll get it next time. And I noticed they’re all retirees and older with the list. I’ve seen people setting stuff to side having the cashier take it off the bill because they don’t have enough money. Sad to but the one’s with full over the top carts full are migrants and there’s usually five or six of them in the store at at the same time with all full carts.

We hadn’t been out to eat at a sit down restaurant in a while. Nothing fancy, you would know the name. I was shocked. For 2 lunches (a burger and fries, and a chicken salad, one tea and a glass of water) was $53. I have no idea how young people just getting started are getting by right now. The Olympics this year were a salute to satanism which overshadowed anything the athletes could do. And any competition that allows breakdancing in as a 'sport' has lost the plot entirely. The Paris Olympics theater was insulting on many levels. I don't understand how anyone could stand to wait thru that filth to watch the athletes. It was an insult to the athletes who had worked so hard to get to the Olympics. My opinion.

Yeah I remember when boars head was only at little delis, not even sold In any grocery store . They were quite picky about what little deli was awarded the prize of being able to sell their over priced meats and cheese. The most expensive sandwiches you could buy in the New England town I lived in then. Look at them now. It will come down to greed. They cut corners and hired cheap and didn’t train and didn’t hire good people to oversee . I’ve always thought they were kinda strange company from way back in 1980s that they were controlling about their product , exclusivity, etc

The price you see on your computer at amazon is not the same as what some one else sees for the SAME item. I had item in amazon cart I looked at in Virginia then went to maryland on a day trip and price was different and then went back home same day and price was original in Virginia!
