The Kill Pete Strategy

Күн бұрын

For today's episode of Fixed Friday I open a six player public lobby for classic fixed.
In my efforts to successfully instigate a war between two of my allied opponents, I become the bad guy and get suicided into by both. Am I able to pull out the win despite that?

I think risk psychological aspect is more present in fixed as is shown here more than progressive since games don't usually last that long this was a very enjoyable video
@TheKillPeteStrategy
@TheKillPeteStrategy 2 жыл бұрын
That's true for the most part. Psychology does come into play in my progressive games in the sense that I want to let my opponents have what they want generally so I can stay out of their way and let them kill eachother instead of me.

I wasn't at all surprised when both black and magenta suicided you since you orchestrated their war. Good on them for figuring out who was really responsible and not just taking each other out. What WAS surprising is how the other players underestimated you and let you have enough breathing room to come back and destroy them! I'm always in disbelief of your comebacks!

When I first started watching you I was a beginner rank. I only play casually but I've got the infinite coins because the free coins were impossibly slow so I would usually be ok with leaving early if I got screwed early. I've now brought myself up to a master rank just from learning from you

I recently got into progressive. I was hella confused at first and didn’t understand how it works, but once I got it I enjoyed the fast paced games you get. However there‘s about 0 strategy in progressive as holding continents is pretty useless. That’s where I love fixed on all different levels. Strategy, teamwork and careful planning ahead of your and your enemies troop counts. Fixed forever!

At 14 minutes you say magenta was smart to take Europe slowly. Is that for psychological reasons, or is there some strategic reason for that? If I'm in black's position and magenta takes Europe in one turn, would breaking Europe be correct? Black has the numbers, but any war can be devastating in the early game.

Taking a big bonus too quickly before you can defend it with threats or guards can lead to you getting teamed on which is the easiest way to go from first to last in a game.

New to the game and I'm loving it so far. Also love your videos. They've helped a lot. Just wanted to add that I've noticed over the few games I've played that too much passivity can lead to you getting backed into a corner so finding the right balance is crucial. Happened with my last game. My buddy and I started playing and the enemy was able to lock me into Australia which wasn't awful since I could just build my troops up but there were moments where it was too close for comfort 😂 the game went on for about 2 hours in a stalemate before my buddy made a bad move and cost himself the game. Also was wondering would you ever be down to do a Collab, Pete? I make videos on personality psychology and one of the interesting things about certain temperaments is their love for strategy because of the demand it places on their intellect. I'd love to have you on to learn more about how you got into all of this and maybe coordinate some sort of tournament between certain personalities. Might be fun. I imagine you're super busy so totally cool if you haven't got the time.

In this version of Risk you only get the +2 troops on the first territory of the match. Since I was likely to still control Siam for the next trade I was saving that +2 for a future trade in.

In the Risk boardgame you can during fortification only move your troops into the adjacted country and not all over the whole map.
@austinmuse6029
@austinmuse6029 2 жыл бұрын
I do believe the rule is that you can only move troops in the Fortification round if there is a pathway of adjacent countries, such as having control of the Eastern Coast of Asia and being able to move troops from Siam to Japan. That being said I don't have the physical board game to read through the rules
@sven31415
@sven31415 2 жыл бұрын
@@austinmuse6029 I have the physical boardgame from around 1980 from Parker brothers, which was version 2. Version 1 had 3x blue dice for the defenders and 3x red dice for the defenders. Version 2 had 3x red dice for the attackers and 2x blue dice for the defenders. I hink they changed it because in case of a tie the defenders got the win for a single die and defending was too strong (I played both versions in the 70th and that was my experience with version 1). The original manual says: (I translater from German) During the fortification phase only armies that didn't participate into current round can be moved into the ADJACTED country, if both countries belong to the player. My interpretation: This means if you move and attack with a stack, it cannot be moved in this round during fortification, even not into the adjacted country. Troops that didn't participate during the attack phase can be moved to the next country and NOT all over the whole map. If you think about these as armies, it does not make sense to be able to move them all over the map in one turn.

You did well (way better than I could have), but it seemed like you were a wee bit lucky. White offered to go in 2nd, it seemed to both of you and yellow seemed like he lost the game rather than you winning. I could be way off, but that seemed like the main decision of the game.

I don't know why yellow ended their turn at 47:08 instead of driving through you across Asia and finishing off whites 12 armies for 5 cards? in that exchange yellow would have lost 12 or 13 armies, but got 5 cards, so gained back 10 armies right away. White would be dead, so you wouldn't have gotten whites cards and the an extra trade and yellow would have. Yellow would have killed 8 of your armies and taken 4 of your territories, leaving you weaker and they would have had only been down 2 armies after the trade, leaving you with about 76 armies & 15 territories and yellow with about 86 armies & 27 territories. Big mistake and fortunate luck for you. Have you thought about change the name from Kill Pete to Pete Gets Lucky? I know it's more than luck.

In that situation if he rushed to finish Europe he would not have the troops to contest black in Africa. Black could continually break and Magenta would never be able to reciprocate. If you are attempting to guard with a threat of reciprocity then you have to be able to back that threat up.
