There’s an amazing documentary where a bunnnnch of donated ipods loaded with old tunes - even as far as back as 90+ years - were loaded and via headphones... these elderly people (some whom hadn’t even spoken in years!) in nursing homes LIT UP and spoke and began reminiscing about their youth. I’m 42 - probably watched that at 35 - and seeing how it made all the difference to those people’s welfare. That’s SO AMAZING YOU played THOSE SONGS FOR YOUR DAD. Be happy you gave that to him, love! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I appreciated it, ten yrs later or not. Very relevant. I also try to strike up a little banter or conversation with nearly all elders I come across. I am fortunate enough to live on a rather large property in a rather unpopulated rural area, most of which is used for haying. It is the most beautiful piece of land I have ever laid my eyes upon. I'm certain there's an element of my glasses being rose-tinted, but I am continually astounded by this place's beauty. It's not the largest place, nor the most profitable, nor even the most well-kept, but damn if it isn't the prettiest. I found this song through Bonelabs' cover, as many others did, but I definitely _FEEL_ this song, as if I were the one who made it, or as if it were made for me. There's just something about the freedom of the countryside that makes me so glad to live here, that makes me feel like I'd be happy living here forever, even if i didn't have my modern amenities; that makes me feel like Heaven itself has to be modeled after it, because I can't imagine anywhere else more perfect. This song's fantastic.

Fun fact, my great grandfather was great friends with Bing Crosby and James Cagney. I have pictures of them all at each other’s wedding and at bars together in nyc in the early to mid 1900s

Listen to me, just because I'm "sat on my ass at home" doesn't mean I haven't had to deal with a literal shit load of work too. We're all stressed during this crisis, don't assume that because I'm not going outside I'm not working. There's something called "working from home", in case you've been working under a rock.

@@markfox1545 And also, Oh Excuse ME for keeping myself quarantined. Next time I want your opinion on how to keep myself and my family safe from the virus, I'll be sure to ask you first. It's not like I don't want yo go outside dumbass, but apparently there's like, I don't know, a global pandemic going on or something like that? I'm gonna assume you're from the United States because you seem to be the only ones that are dumb enough to protest staying at home in quarantine "bEcAuSe mY fReEdOM". This is the reason both you and your country are the longest lasting joke in existence.

There's a reason he was called "One Take Bing" - he'd go in, he'd record his song flawlessly, then walk out.
@oldtoby93773 жыл бұрын
That nickname stuck around so much that when blowups did happen (examples of which are We're a couple of soldiers and a second version of Wrap your troubles in dreams) the producers secretly kept them only for it to be bootlegged for years to come. For Wrap your troubles in dreams, Bing demonstrated his quick-wittedness by ad-libbing almost an entire verse of the song.

Oh, give me land, lots of land under starry skies above Don't fence me in Let me ride through the wide open country that I love Don't fence me in Let me be by myself in the evenin' breeze And listen to the murmur of the cottonwood trees Send me off forever, but I ask you please Don't fence me in Just turn me loose Let me straddle my old saddle Underneath the Western skies On my Cayuse Let me wander over yonder Till I see the mountains rise I want to ride to the ridge where the West commences And gaze at the moon till I lose my senses And I can't look at hobbles and I can't stand fences Don't fence me in

Why does it matter where someone discovered these songs? I first started listening to this music from Fallout, and Im thankful for it, for I never would have been introduced to it otherwise. It doesn't matter where you come from. The only thing that matters it where you are.

@MrGramophone this is quoted from wikipedia: "Don't Fence Me In" was also recorded by Bing Crosby and The Andrews Sisters in 1944. Crosby entered the studio on July 25, 1944, without having seen or heard the song. Within 30 minutes, he and The Andrews Sisters had made the recording, which later sold over a million copies and topped the Billboard charts for eight weeks in 1944-45.
