No autotune, no fancy tricks in studio. Just a humongous talent, a velvety soothing voice, and lots of hard work. Ella, the real QUEEN.

Had ol'cowboy friend, born in 1898, and tough ol' bachelor lifetime. Us young guys, 1960s, would spend as much time with him we could. One of us brought his guitar over and started playing this and Frank broke down in tears, asking for the music to stop as it called to mind a long dead lady he still loved. Music is powerful and Ella is one of the top musicians ever

An old ancient cowboy, longin' for his old cowgirl. They say, cowboys was the oldest profession and steer horns was the oldest form of money, or maybe that was love?

Wildcat kelley, lookin' mighty pale Was standin' by the sherrif's side And when the sherrif said "I'm sendin you to jail Wildcat raised his head and cried Oh, give me land, lots of land under starry skies above Don't fence me in Let me ride through the wide-open country that I love Don't fence me in Let me be by myself in the evenin' breeze Listen to the murmur of the cottonwood trees Send me off forever, but I ask you, please Don't fence me in Just turn me loose, let me straddle my ol' saddle underneath the western skies On my cayuse, let me wander over yonder 'till I see the mountains rise I want to ride to the ridge where the west commences Gaze at the moon 'till I lose my senses I can't look at hobbles and I can't stand fences Don't fence me in Wildcat kelley, back again in town Was standin by his sweetheart's side And when his sweetheart said "come on, let's settle down Wildcat raised his head and cried Oh, give me land, lots of land under starry skies above Don't fence me in Let me ride through the wide open country that I love Don't fence me in Let me be by myself in the evenin' breeze Listen to the murmur of the cottonwood trees Send me off forever but I ask you please Don't fence me in Just turn me loose, let me straddle my ol' saddle underneath the western skies On my cayuse, let me wander over yonder 'till I see the mountains rise I want to ride to the ridge where the west commences Gaze at the moon 'till I lose my senses Can't look at hobbles and I can't stand fences Don't fence me in

I dont wanna say she sings this badly. But maybe a more golden lower tone like Bing Crosbys is hard to come by. This song was built for men.
@littleredfeather68515 жыл бұрын
Crosby has no octave, his voice doesn't change much for this song sadly. I think she did a good job for telling the story of wildcat, much as Frankie and Johnnie was based on a poem and told better by a woman. I see what you're saying tho.
