Most compressor will have a tiny bit of oil already added into them from the factory but it’s always recommended to put the correct oil level whenever you replace a component from the AC system.
The oil lubricate the entire system and making everything more efficient which will then last
longer. 04-08 tsx requires 8.11 ounces

My civic is being such a bitch, the ac eventually started only working on regular ac, no max ac option, then eventually failed. If you smack the dashboard you can hear the blower motor start up like it wants to work then just dies. I'm about to likely have to test everything from fuses, relays, the clutch, resistor, blower motor....needless to say I'm very cranky in this 100 degree whether with no ac especially when I LIVE in the car. Ya know, the American dream.

Depends on what you're replacing in the system, each component holds/retains a certain amount of oil. You can add oil each component that you're replacing. I just replaced the condenser and evaporator so I added a certain amount of oil to each item before installing.

You don’t have to add specific amounts to each component if you were replacing the entire system. For example, the condenser calls for approximately 25 mL if you’re replacing just that part but if you’re replacing the entire system, I would just add the required amount into the compressor and when you start the system, it’ll get evenly distributed and settled into the components.

Do it once or do it again is what my grandfather used to tell me all the time. I thought he was just being grumpy but that old man knew what the heck he was talking about. You're going to have to disconnect the hoses on the compressor because even if you wanted to just replaced the clutch, not enough room within the engine bay. So when you disconnect the hoses, if there's debris in there, then it probably made it through your system. Discharge hose goes to you condenser and the other feeds into the expansion valve before going into the evaporator. If you're in the south, then you're probably going to want AC but I'm up north so this would be a spring 2024 problem if it was my car. hahaha. Good luck

@@thecarchak I’m having a mechanic do it. Another professional experienced mechanic said he did replace clutch on one car and so far so good. It’s a lot easier and cheaper than replacing compressor and condenser. One mechanic said when you take off compressor you check it out and if it’s black then the system is contaminated and need to replace condenser as well. At that point it is contaminated I’ll just have to find another condenser. I’ve already got condenser , O ring set , desiccant bag , drier , expansion valve and shraeder valves and caps.

@thecarchak
@thecarchak 2 ай бұрын
Did you add the correct amount of Freon? The system calls for a certain amount of Freon (oz) so you don't want to overcharge the system. Pop the hood and see if you can see where the rattle is coming from. Don't forget, when the clutch of the AC kicks on, that might put a little more strain on various mounts of the engine.

I am about to buy a new AC compressor.. do I have to add more oil to it even if its new? My last compressor was also brand new but failed after 6-7 months. Do you think the reason could be because Mechanic didn't add extra oil before installing it in my car?
@thecarchak
@thecarchak 4 ай бұрын
I wouldn’t add a new compressor without flushing the entire system. New ac shouldn’t die after 7 months. The two lines that you will have to disconnect from the compressor should be removed from the car and flushed to see if you have any contaminates in the line. If it’s in the line, then it’s pretty much everywhere as well. You should also replace the ac drier at the condenser.

@@thecarchak Appreciate it the info. One more question if you don't mind,,, I took the car to another Mechanic & he said (Black Death has occurred) he pressed a button from the AC lines and Gas or Freon came out completely black. He said at this point, you have to add a New Compressor , New Condenser, New Expansion valve. I researched online more & the reason turned out to be (the evaporator failure) which led to all this. What do you think? Can I flush the compressor or Condenser? Or replace them all?
@thecarchak
@thecarchak 4 ай бұрын
My compressor on the Audi S4 exploded a few summers ago and I did exactly what you described. Once a critical component dies in that fashion, imagine all of the debris now flowing through the lines and then wedging themselves into the evap, condenser, etc and that's why I decided to replace everything in the system. Condenser are cheap, lesson than $200 usually but the Evap and compressor is the big ticket item. Most if not all AC compressor that you will buy comes with a little warning that says if the entire system wasn't flush before installation, it voids the warranty.

@thecarchak
@thecarchak 2 жыл бұрын
I would trust the manual more than what’s included in the box or compressor. You have to think that the people who design the compressor (also responsible for producing the manual) know more than the packaging/distribution centers. So if your compressor came with a bottle of different oil than the manual, then don’t use it. Dump the oil and put the correct amount as stated in the manual.

@thecarchak
@thecarchak 2 жыл бұрын
Anytime! And I typically never add oil to the system if I’m changing the expansion valve or dryer. There’s usually not a ton of oil sitting in the line itself so the majority of the oil will sit in your compressor condenser and evaporator. You should be able to charge the system with R134 a and be back on the road. I don’t know how long you had the system open for but it’s always a good idea to evacuate if you had it open for a long period of time.

Also when driving when i turn the wheel i can hear something, not a click sound, but like the sound a can opener makes, but quieter. My question is, the vibration.. is that because maybe compressor is bolted to engine right? Maybe not torqued right? And maybe the subframe drop changed wheel sound? Oh and car seems longer to to reach operating temp, like 12 minutes just idling.
