I just suggested this video to my father after trying other videos on the installation of this front derailleur, and he replied: "I just watched it and thought it was absolutely fabulous. You're right he is so clear and explains things perfectly. I couldn't wish for a more perfect video. I'll watch it a lot of times before doing the installation." Danny I know you get some criticism for not having shortcut videos, but some of us absolutely prefer the thoroughness and of not leaving anything out. We appreciate the exact way you do your videos, good work.

Hi, This is an excellent guide for new bike builders or even for mechanics. I have been building road bikes ever since 1976, and all of the manufactures are upgrading and improving their components every two or three years. Your step by step approach has been very helpful in regards to the setup of the last and newest mechanical shifting system. I will recommend your channel to my fellow biker friends. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge with the world.

Very clear, answers all my questions. Just finished installing my Shimano 105 R7000 front derailleur. Much more complicated compared to earliest versions of Shimano groups' front derailleurs, and it was easy due to this excellent video. Thanks.

Thanks for the video!!! it shows clearly how to make it PROPERLY! I bought Trek Madone 2019 last year. nothing of this was done as you show it. I have a hole in my frame because of the bicycle MECHANIC in Rutland Cycling in Milton Keynes. He, obviously didn't use the little plate you showed us! The same think about the brakes... they were not adjusted and i needed to find it out myself. I hope there are more people like you in the cycling shops, who will do their job with pleasure! Thank you. This is the first video that explains _clearly_ the install & setup of this new generation of FDs. I have been struggling with a GRX 810 FD on a new build. Shimano's tech docs are about as clear as mud.
@sjli14843 жыл бұрын
Definitvely the best tutorial video for installation and adjustment of this kind of FD. Not only because of the explanations on the FD itself, but also for the explanations on trim positions when pushing the shifters. For mtb users, there is no difference between shifting and triming so a tutorial without these clarifications is confusing for new road bike riders. So, well done!

Great one! saved me some pain when building new bike. I was wondering why is the derailleur completely ignoring my ST up-shifts (but down-shift was there). Appear it wasn't the derailleur itself, but somebody who sold me the ST-s R8000 messed with the shifting cable or just put it through, without noticing which gear is the lever on. Got them pretty much brand new, but without the original paper box (plastic bags and manuals only). Result - completely screwed operation when playing with the FD. Thanks again... saved me some head ache...

Excellent and so clearly demonstrated! I think this is identical for GRX-FD RX810 front derailleur. So confusing if you expect this to be like all previous "normal" front derailleurs!! You could broaden your viewing if you include more derailleurs.

Best tutorial I have found on this. Great detail. Only thing I would add is be sure to take the slack out of the cable with the shifter in lowest gear. Then fix the cable to the pinch bolt and proceed with one shift up and then down to trim position.
@robertp72093 жыл бұрын
Is that slack removed with the shifter in lowest position, related to what chainring? What is lowest? In other words, the cable in the shifter should it be either: all the way out or all the way inside itself?
@csleclerc573 жыл бұрын
@@robertp7209 so sorry, it has been months since I did the work and I have actually forgotten what the hell my procedure exactly was. Follow his instructions and also cross check the work with the Shimano manual online and you will get it right. Cable would be all the way out. Your cage would be over the small chainring in low gear front.

Great video using it to setup my new GRX mech today. FYI for the clamp on adapter part number SM-AD91-MS 31.8/28.6 it has a small built in welded nub, where the stabilizing screw presses against when its turned outwards, so no need for the small piece of metal, and in fact the small piece of metal wouldn't physically fit due to this little built in nub :)

This is a great tutorial. I can stop scratching my head! Only thing I would say you need to correct, is you should clamp your work stand at the seat stem. Thank you so much! My Canyon arrived with a really bad adjusted Front Derailleur (the cage brushed the crank arm, wtf?!) and with your video I fixed it! It is my first bike with a braze on type, so I had no idea how to adjust it. I guess that's the price you pay for a bike from the Internet.
@ekie73613 жыл бұрын
Could you adjust it really properly? My Endurace arrived today - I acknowledged the same and tried to fix it. On the lowest gear, with the L screw completely out, the chain still scratches on the inner side of the derailieur. I think its something about the measurements of the frame itself.
@Aniqa1013 жыл бұрын
@@ekie7361 My derailleur was not parallel to the chainring. So I had to loosen the mounting bolt and turn the derailleur inward which solved all of my problems. But keep in mind that you can trim the front derailleur. So even when you shifted to the small chainring, there is another "half click" left which brings the cage even more inward.

Did you find out? If so please let me know. Should the cable be as far out of the shifter it can go, or all the way inside itself?

THANK YOU for covering that random adhesive plate which I was very curious about when installing my 105 R7K (the way it installs is identical to this Ultegra, btw). Now to make that final trim adjustment before I ride. Also good to know about that canted "heel" in on braze on mechs like this, as opposed to being parallel flat to the big ring. Really good tips! I can also confirm that thus far, the 105 R7K works on a mid 90s XT flat bar left shifter! My mutant vintage roadie bike is set.

Excellent video, even if the subtitles in French lack precision. Shimano managed a great feat with their new derailleurs before ... the old ones worked perfectly, I do not really see the interest of making a new method of adjustment (which in the process is much more complicated to achieve than the old method. ..). Worse, these new derailleurs are not compatible on my CBT Italia frame, the support screw is found in the gap between the frame and the tire, it does not support anything ... So I had to replace the derailleur . The rival sram I had replaced was even nicer than the old 105 5800 ... I will watch it several times because some points are still too vague.
