Trusting local Cambodians is the first thing you should tell all tourists to not do. The trip advisor and google reviews although cannot be trusted 100%, but the aggregation of bad experiences from the reviews in all Cambodians tourists places in these websites, point to some fundamental dangers in visiting Cambodia. Remember where there is smoke there is fire.

That question about is Cambodia part of Vietnam? In part they were correct because in hind sight Khmer is no longer Khmer. Angkor Wat is now Vietnam owned. But most tourists and most Khmer didn’t know that either. Pretty soon it wil also become part of China too. Thanks to the corrupt Khmer government and the prime minister. If you’re visiting Angkor Wat paying insurmountable prices to visit the historic sites then you’re paying to the Vietnamese billionaire.

Sadly you’re somewhat correct. Billionaire businessman Sok Kong an ethnic Vietnamese/Cambodian but not Khmer. Owner of sokimex, owns the rights to ticket sales to Angkor wat for a certain period of time. Strong ties with very top corrupt politicians. Yes, proceeds are spread amongst the corrupt top officials and next to nothing goes back to the country. I can see the confusion. Vietnam does not own nor did they lay any claims of ownership of Angkor. Cambodia is still very corrupt and nobody wants to admit it. The corrupt politicians are selfish and couldn’t care less about the future of Cambodia and its people.
