Sorry but who would want to live in Siam Reap ? It’s a sit hole, at any price, ok after you’ve spent 3 days in Angkor Wat ? then what? no beach, of course, no beautiful environments ,great river systems, beautiful escarpments, just a hot dusty shit hole after you done Angkor, just don’t understand?

We do! Love it here. So much to see and do. Here over 18 months and still getting out every day. Beautiful jungle, hundreds of ancient temples each with their own story, cheap cost of living, friendly expat community. Very friendly local people. Dont know about dusty... it is lush and green at the moment. Getting an apartment with a pool is affordable, and if not, there is the very safe West Baray to swim in and spend a lazy relaxing afternoon. If you only came here and spent 3 days at Angkor Wat, you really missed a lot.

Sounds like you need a hug, Does poor little, hard to please, Peter visiting a beautiful city in a developing country. The things that you mention create and are part of its charm, but it has so much more to offer,, need a hug?.. So much negativity, I think you need to stop sugar coating it, let it all out and tell us all how you really feel. You will feel so much better after you vent a little more. I hope you have a beautiful Siem Reap day. 😀

Ok yes what I said was harsh, to tell the whole thing, I visited 30 years ago, well before “pub street” before some ex pat community,which im never into anyway, in other Asian countries I near ban myself from falling into that klick were you never learn the language and end up onother outsider, I didn’t have a motor bike didn’t try learn the Kamer language spent 10 days, was bored,living in Vietnam spending my holidays in Sihanoukville ,loved it, sorry for being so harsh but I can’t imagine it being better 30 years later , yes I don’t know, maybe the commercialisation of it is for the better, yes I’m ill informed as to it now, I’ll try to be more knowledgeable in future when I open my trap.

@@warrenwilliams7456 I hear it's possible to obtain a retirement visa if you are under 55 as long as you provide paperwork proving a pension showing monthly income. I would love to see a video about this talking to an agent to see if it is indeed true and legal. I'm soon to be 52 and would be devastated to pack up and make a new life in Cambodia only to be turned down

Hi Jeremy. Great video…many thanks. You did a wonderful job on it. This is one of my favourite types of videos. Apartments in various price ranges. For those of us who have more money available. And for those of us with less. I hope you might be able to do a video on apartments in the range of $50 a month to $175 a month. Apparently “Dave in Cambodia” and his gf live in an apartment that is very simple and costs only $50 a month. The apartment I had in Siem Reap for a couple of months in 2017 was renting for $100 a month. But I had gone through a “middle man” and was paying $150. I’ll know better when I come back. Can’t wait. I’m old and have to return soon. Tired of living in Canada. Thank you to you and Claire for all you both do. Always a pleasure to see your videos. Take care……Namo Buddhaya… 🙏🏼 ☸️ 🌴 🌴 🌴 🦎 🙂

@@ForRiel true that's why a separate little bedroom is optimal. i only run fans in my kitchen/ living room ..and have a pretty good draft too as a bonus. We've lived in places with security and places without. Many have CCTV as well. We've not had an issue with anyone trying to mess with our stuff, but some people feel more comfortable with it. We have two motos; many of these apartment buildings don't have space on site for a car, so you'd be parking it on the road. The first apartment in this video has good parking.
@brettborder
@brettborder 4 ай бұрын
@@ForRiel Thank you - that's what I thought as well. I wouldn't have a car, I just used "vehicle" as I was just trying to cover bases so no one would need to post anything negative about security. I'll be getting a "moto" from Claire's Budget Vlog outlining costs upon arrival to get set-up (quotes around moto as we call them scooters here - over 50cc - as opposed to a motorcycle/bike, which all my family rides almost all year round - nice being on the West Coast).

Love the video. For any Canadians watching, unfortunately Canada does not have a tax treaty with Cambodia. So there are different tax implications for your pension if moving to Cambodia vs places like Thailand and the Philippines. Maybe there’s a Canadian on here that can chime in on what they’ve been able to do.

From your vids, appears like its easy enough to get 3 month contracts. Also, some of the places in the 250 a month bracket seem really nice. I am exploring visa options and internet providers for Cambodia at the moment. Any advice or tips would be beneficial for me. Are any of the appts soundproofed?

Landlords are extremely flexible and willing to let you do almost anything you want. We asked the landlord to install screens, that was in the contract. We installed, a kitchen shelf and a roof cover at our expenses. This is going to be our place for a long time so we are happy to spend a bit to make it like we want.

Just moved here with my whopping $940 a month social security . I have a great apartment with balcony and pool. My total bill for my first month was $400 for rent, electric, water, wifi and cable. My total in the states in July was $950. You likely would have at least double that from S.S. You will live so well here, But it's the people here that make it special.

excellent video. may i ask if using s.r. as a part time retirement destination is ever done? i.e. lease a night-guarded, safe, small apartment for one year, have a one year retiree visa (these are multiple entry i gather), spend several months at a time in s.r., travel to an apartment back home in the west (and/or elsewhere in asia) for several months. given s.r. that seems safe from property crime, and has its own (new) international airport, it seems doable for not an obscene cost, eh? also, i have a healthy dread of being in an accident on a motorbike, are tuktuks easy enough for a non-khmer speaker? grab taxi? thanks! sorry for double post, dont know how i did it!
