Kinda speaks to how it's so easy to be 'groomed' into management, and the business world explicitly lures you into the hierachrical boss mindset. Like we see red guy. Many workplaces are half BS admin jobs, but everyone is still vying and kissing ass to get there, trying to get the shiny tie lol
@WillowJordan1979 Жыл бұрын
I personally see it as a butt-kissing employee who wants to advance in the work place by flattering the boss and groveling in front of him. Since it's a fax machine, there's no way for it to become the boss, but it still gets some kind of self-worth from serving the guy on top. Like Smithers to Mr. Burns. If you think about it, he WAS the only person to take initiative, and therefore, out of everyone in that particular group of people. He WAS the most qualified. The phone was ringing, he pointed out that the phone needed to be answered, nobody else took action, and so he did. I don’t know if that was actually intentional, but it often turns out to be the case. Successful people are very often just the people who decided to start providing the service that nobody else wanted to.

Wait a minute. It suddenly just dawned on me that the part processing assembly line takes all the parts that were just freshly assembled, sucks them into a machine and then the process starts all over again. Those parts aren't even going anywhere. They're not being put in delivery boxes or even being transported to a different room. The two workers literally spend all day standing there just to watch their work endlessly repeat itself and since they're both stupid and unaware of this they act like they are benefiting the company by doing this. I wanna imagine this is a metaphor for "worthless labor" where modernization of companies makes it so because of how hyper automated they're the standard of work has gotten much easier but it's boring and soulless. Like you crave virtually anything to fight off monotone and routine. This also explains why the Fax Machine calls Red into the room. He is a metaphor for "nepotism hires" where under qualified people get paid obscene amounts of money for jobs they don't deserve all because of connections.

Two things I find interesting in this episode: 1. The "dumb" guy is able to instantly adapt to life in the workplace where he works until retirement. Meanwhile, the "smart" guy is the one who's unable to fit in at all and ends up getting fired. Really puts into question what they teach you as a kid about being smart and getting good grades. 2. @@TheSurrealist. i feel like it leans more towards the way certain companies develop a phony, pseudo caring environment (the classic corporate attitude). Not all companies or businesses are like that, even when they indeed benefit from capitalism they don't antagonize the members of each class

@@MegaBlair007 I feel like you’re still describing a problem with capitalism.
@MegaBlair0072 жыл бұрын
@@TheSurrealist. you see, in my opinion a matter of capitalism would be the higher classes (ie the corpos) openly antagonizing the lower classes (workers). But in this case, we see matters that are more in line with the culture in a place of work (the phony co-workers pretending to love their job, the silly job jokes that everyone repeats over and over, unhelpful stress relief therapy, gross vending machine food, the need to justify your time spent on the day by doing literally anything in your job no matter how utterly meaningless or simple it actually is -turning bits into parts and then back into bits, talking on the phone, etc ) It doesn't go into detail about the problem structure of a production system, it's more like a critique of the environment within a workplace

Still a better lunch than what they had in Squid Game.

What did they have in Squid Game?
@shihtzurevolution15622 жыл бұрын
Mixed rice, hard-boiled eggs, a Korean peanut bread, corn, raw potatoes. Now that I think about it, I should have just said the lunch gave me Squid Game vibes.

a family member knows someone who dropped dead on their retirement day. someone was helping him box his stuff up on his last day of work. they heard a thump and when they walked in, the man had had a heart attack and was found face down on the ground

I worked with a woman - an administrator - and she died several months after her retirement. She hated her job and didn’t get along with her manager. She had moved into an apartment that was above her son’s garage and she was intending to spend as much time as she could with her grandkids. That comment about not liking his child as much as he likes lasagna speaks to how we misallocate time.
