My 11B unit was very proficient at calling ordnance in on our position. I was left in the field alone and very lost. Our platoon was in cover hiding from an Apache and jumped out to take pictures. Our state was assisting Florida NG during A.T. at Ft. Stewart during our annual two week training through all this and We (VAANG) was in a convoy unknowingly with FL and along came one of their tanks just driving along the road side passing us all, safety killing us and their guys. :). BUT... Thats why we train. Just happy it happened so we had the chance to learn and I have some fun memories. No matter what branch you join it will be tough and you may have regrets but you can do it and Thank you! You are among and will be a part of an elite force of which you can stand proud and will meet some outstanding individuals of whom you will make a lifetime of incredible memories. Again, Thank you for your service and enjoy filling out the same papers every month like they throw them away or something! lol! It can become very boring and you will often question what mental institution some of the leadership escaped from but for some reason there cant ever seem to be good without the bad lurking around. Just keep an open mind and remember thats why we have the gift of adult beverages

Prior service Marine here. I was active duty for several years. I now am in the Army National Guard. It has been a fantastic and rewarding experience. I can remain close to my family, go to school, and continue with my civilian career. The opportunity to deploy is something I've looked forward to in the guard. I deployed once with the Marines and I would do it again in a heart beat. Pick an MOS that transfers to the civilian world and take every chance you can to improve yourself and deploy. You'll never regret it. Even if you are there just for college.

7 years active and now in the NG. Some of this info was solid and truthful but some was cringe worthy. If someone wants to go to college and have education benefits the guard cannot be matched. Active duty is great for those that don’t want to go to school... bc depending on your MOS you will not have time. Guard has ADOS, technician and AGR. Don’t sleep on the guard. I hope others watching this dig deeper.

I joined the guard simply to experience military training. I didn't want to regret not doing it. There was a lot of tough times during training but overall its def worth it. I use the military to my full advantage. I put money in my tsp account, I have a security clearance which is not easy to come by, I can now see things from a different perspective because of my military experience and now because of covid-19 I make really good money while many people are being furloughed from their jobs. I was able to expedite the process for my parents obtaining their green cards simply because I was in the military. I honestly see the NG or reserves as an immense safety. You're a government employee which means you qualify for many benefits and can take advantage of discounts that companies offer to service members. I can still stay close to my family while also attending school. If you play your cards right its definitely worth it. However, I only recommend joining when you are younger like right after high school. I had trouble socializing with people when I was younger so the military has extremely boosted my confidence. The reason I say younger is better is because you have few to no bills to pay, most aren't married, you can still attend school, you have the free time to learn a lot etc. Plus gi bill for a 6 year contract as well so you can get paid while going to school. It's lit but even with all I have said I will not stay in the army. I will most likely transition to the air force and become an officer only because the quality of life is better and they have more technical jobs that will fall in with what I'm studying in school which is computer engineering. Who knows maybe get into the space force 👌

Couldn’t have said it any better. I’m 26 years old married and have 3 wonderful boys. I’ve always thought of joining the military. I live in California where everything is super expensive. @@GossipGyal1 The NG wasn’t for me, I was looking to make money after Highschool and I didn’t want to attend college at the time, I was lied to by my recruiter just so he could meet his quota, I ended up working retail then joining a trade, now in university, Once you attend Drill you’ll see how toxic the leaders are and how much favoritism there is, The higher ranks soldiers are usually the most toxic ignorant leaders I have ever met. They look at you like you’re trash and this is from my experience from the Bay Area California, It’s all people who think their better than one another. It’s like when you ask for help nobody wants to help you, You’re treated like a kid and talked to like your a monkey with no brains, This is obviously from my experience. I met great people here and there but most who enlist in the NG have this mentality lost in life with a bachelors degree or 1-2 years away from graduating from a Uni, It’s almost like I was in HighSchool again.

If you want to become a electrician all you have to do is apply for the apprenticeship IBEW or your local union to take the exam or you could work for a open-shop company under as a apprentice. I agree, I always said that the guard isn't good for kids right out of high school, especially since the post 9/11 applies only if you've done 36 months of active time. If you're a bit older and have your shit together it's a better option for healthcare and stability. I'm in the Air Guard and your career really depends on your self motivation. Depending on your job you can hop on orders and stay there, or pick up an AGR slot. For us, you can get up to E-6 on your first contract, after that you have to be willing to switch units to get E-7. I know plenty of people who ranked up faster their active duty counterparts. The only thing I'd gripe with you is the retirement, you can do 20 years and get the pension, you just can't collect until 62, however every year of AD it gets reduced by that amount. I also agree, go Air Guard and pick a good job, I worked with Army a lot and feel bad for ya'll

You don't make as much money in the air force because promotions are so competitive, you stay the same rank on average much longer than active army. Clothing allowance is less too. You also don't do as much working out. Active Army is the hidden gem in the military.

He has been really open with me about the pros and cons. He also believes that everyone should have a chance in joining, but I hear so many people including yourself say to join active duty. It’s somewhat mind boggling to keep up with lol. I really need to hear advice from someone who wouldn’t benefit lying to me. Regardless if I join or not, I plan to go to the medical field. Hey i have a question, Thank you for keeping it real here. I just wanted your opinion on this. I'm fresh out of high school and graduated last year. I'm almost finished with my AA in nursing. So the reason I am joining the military is to better myself as a person, learning stability and really need to get my shit together. I don't NEED the military, but i honestly feel like it could benefit me as a person, character, overcoming fear, building confidence, work ethic, and overall alot of habits I have and want to break that are hindering me in sooo many ways (especially in school) that I know the military will fix. for example i am a BIG TIME PROCRASTINATOR and i know damn well basic + AIT will break that out of me. I feel like if i work smart, it will benefit me in many ways. i definitely would want to go active duty but with my school plans part time would be the best option for me for now. Only reason I chose national guard over reserves is because i can get more money for school so i might as well. I want to become a paramedic and since I can get my NREMT certification ( im choosing 68w) from the national guard during AIT, right when i get out i can work a little bit and use my earned money to become a paramedic. (btw the only reason im going to school for nursing rn is because in case this paramedic shit doesn't work, i'll just do two more years of school and become a nurse. Its just a backup really) I'm still tied between choosing a 3 vs 6 year contract. Like i said i wanted to do active duty and avoid all of these "calling out of work" . idk 6 years just seems like a long time but i'm considering 6 years because 1) GI bill and 2) by the time my contract ends, i should be done with school; and if i liked my time in the military, i can go for a little. Do you think i'm thinking about this wrong? Am i over glamourizing it? Should i be careful with some things? I really wouldn't care about deployments or benefits tbh but i just don't want to make stupid mistakes and think i would get something about of the NG that i really wouldn't.

Something that I would have liked to have seen was covering the fact that the national guard has State reserve time State active duty time then has Federal reserve time and federal active duty time but only that time that you spend under the reserves and active duty at the Federal level counts towards your retirement and benefits so if all you do is your one weekend a month and 2 weeks in the summer for annual training if you're in the national guard you ain't really getting any retirement and you're not really getting any health benefits either and so in fact you're really getting no benefits other than those benefits that the state provides

I am an Army National Guard recruiter. I also spent 15 years active duty. 5 of those I was a USAREC recruiter. Both have their benefits. The only thing I can suggest and do suggest to my applicants, is to talk to every branch and component to see what is the best fit for you. You are also giving false information on here (home down payment, education etc). You are all over the place in this video young man. If you are going to make a video which is your right and we greatly appreciate it, you need to be FACTUAL. You are a really young Soldier. Additionally.. the retirement is THE SAME and the pay is not a quarter. You are working 2-3 days a month, what kind of compensation do you expect for 3 days of work? The Guard obviously wasn't a good fit for you because your Recruiter should have steered you towards RA. However, there are Guard Soldiers making 4K a month off of just going to school (fact not opinion). We also DO NOT receive "points" or additional compensation for recruits. It's not all about the money. This is a very negative unbecoming video. I am not your leadership, but, if I were, I'd counsel you for this video. You are on her bashing the very institution that took you out of your bad situation. You are sitting there with your "brush" that's really a comb in your snivel gear degrading the institution that feeds and clothes you and gives you your KZbin rating for speaking on the Military. We don't need you to brag on what you've "done", you'd be surprised what your Recruiters have done. This video goes against all the Army Values and is appalling.....

I was air force reserves for a long time and you correct about not ranking up. I got passed over because we had a tech Sgt who switched jobs to my section and got a slot I should have gotten to Promote and he hadnt even been to tech schoo
