First ever comment on KZbin but has to share. Had a fitting with Matt at GL on a weekend home from the US. After multiple previous fittings at other big box fitters, this was the first time I felt that the person I was working with was actually concerned about what was best for my game and not their commission. Golf Liberty is my new go to! Good luck Matt!

I’m currently reading Jack Nicklaus’ ‘Golf My Way’ and he describes looking at the ball with his left eye, and having his head tilted away from the ball, much as you’re talking about. I’m experimenting with it; it feels weird but results are promising.

Thanks Matt, I watched this video right before I went down the driving range. Hit a few “misfires” until I got some confidence in it then was hitting it the best I have all year! Thanks for all your efforts in providing the masses with real world tips and instruction

Tried this on the range today and hit some tasty shots. Feels better and more fluid. Takes a bit to get used to but great tip, sir. Thank you. Great to see you back.

Something I worked on a bit with Matt at the end of last year was that in my backswing my lead shoulder was tilting my head so the eye-line went out-to-in, resulting in my head tilting back to compensate on the downswing resulting in aggressive in-to-out coming through. I struggled to find something that felt comfortable to minimize the head tilt but felt like stiffening my neck to combat the shoulder helped keep the eyes on plane but limited my swing in different ways that become obvious from this video. Something I noticed here (whether intentional or not) was using a slight head twist back as a trigger for starting the swing. So far in a couple of range sessions this has really enabled me to not have to focus on the head tilting side to side, and allow me to get back to solid fundamentals in the rest of the backswing. Thanks for these informative videos, I might have continued down a worse path trying to force my head to not move at all if it weren't for this!

This is something I’ve been working on and have noticed some good things come of it. You’re right about the perception of the ball so it does take some practice.

It actually works. I have a fused disc in my neck. Turning as descriped really helps my shoulder turn.

All of my right handed tendencies are yours! Hand lifting, reverse pivoting, low pulls or blocks. I've been doing exactly this move recently and the difference in range of motion has been dramatic. Question - what is your weight distribution on irons vs driver?

You made some Great points in this video. I’m actually practicing this by turning, looking over my left shoulder and closing my right eye. Definitely a different feeling. I really struggle turning with my driver for some reason🤪. Thanks for the technical insight!

When I was in junior golf and in high school my Dad would tell me to "keep my head down" and all it was, was just a verbal indication to stop looking up at towards the target before a made contact with the ball to avoid hitting thin shots. I think a lot of people over think the "keep your head down" thing.
@stefan-t--
@stefan-t-- 8 ай бұрын
this is the number one thing i have to do for contact right now - totally agree! if I go into extension in the backswing (head tilted more toward the target) I will chunk the shit out of it. if I move slightly off the ball like you demonstrated and never go into extension, I generally hit it well. this is to the point where if I feel myself go into extension in the backswing I will stop my swing and reset because I know I will likely chunk it.

Thanks Matty, that's a super video that has helped enormously. Mate, just a wee suggestion; if you're showing close-ups on posture and spin angle please may I ask you to wear lighter/more contrasting shirts as you seem to disappear into the background; though it's probably just me getting old. Keep up the great work and appreciate your guidance :)

Being a left eye dominant, lefthanded golfer, guessing the ball perception will be off when I move my head like that. Will try it though.

Bobby jones talkes about being cognizant of the ball position whilst not limiting head movement and coupling that with him positioning head so he “sees” the ball with his left eye.

I do just this.. My commented about me moving my head, and when I tried not to tilt my head in backswing I lose awareness of my club. I think there might be people with different kinds of understandings of space and changing or not changing the orientation of head might be very subjective (like most of things in golf).

I tend to agree with the idea that keeping one's head down is not good advice. Although, keeping ones head still is good advice for many/most amature golfers, because from what I've seen many amatures move their head way to much.
@stefan-t--
@stefan-t-- 8 ай бұрын
disagree, many new players when told "keep your head still" or "keep your head down" end up doing weird shit and moving their head worse to keep their own perception of stillness intact. like the head moving down toward the ball in the backswing and then up away from the ball in the down swing
@TML34
@TML34 8 ай бұрын
I think the bigger problem is people moving their head too far forward through the downswing. If you watch any pro golfer, you'll notice how they keep their head behind the ball at impact, this is what makes it easier to have an in-to-out path and a proper angle of attack, especially with the driver.

Matty how do you decouple this from losing posture and having too flat of a shoulder turn?
@GolfLiberty
@GolfLiberty 8 ай бұрын
This head movement specifically shouldn’t cause an overly flat shoulder turn or posture loss, would address those in other ways

this works first 9 holes. next 9 holes not so much. try doing that after 100 balls at the range without cameras monitoring your movement. the consistency drops like a rock
