Just based on your videos I wish you were my neighbor. I bought my first piece of land at 18 and I am now 63 but never had the opportunity to live on and homestead either of those two 5 acre properties. I still have one rental as for my backyard it looks something like a mini version of some of what you do so much better.

I appreciate it. Hope you are able to move to one of those properties and expand.

Eric, I sold property #1 in 2007 and the second 5 acre parcel in 2021. I still own two properties one is 70 miles east of me and that is my rental home. I am about 15 miles east of Los Angeles. I really do not fit in and should be in a more rural setting or so I think. Take care and God bless you and your family. @@CountryLivingExperience

Loved this video. I will mention though that you can purchase 1,2 and even 3 year old crowns. That said you wouldn't have to wait two years to harvest the older crowns.....at least that is the way I understand it.

I always go by how long the roots have been established in the ground in their final place that they will produce. You can experiment on yours in terms of timing.

This was the year I’ve been waiting for, man are they yummy! Yes, they drip water like crazy after you cut them. I have never tasted an asparagus that was so delicious. Well worth the wait. Thanks for the paracord idea, replacing the jute every season seemed very wasteful.

Thank you for this very informational video. I have two of three asparagus plants planted last spring. I did not harvest them this year so I guess this would be considered second season? They are in a container garden and I did prune them back at beginning of spring. We live in Texas and our spring is very early this year. Anyways, the plants are huge, very tall and seem extremely healthy. The spears have already come up and gone to seed. We added new mushroom compost which we do every year in our container gardens.

I sell skipjack for catfish bait (Markybob Catfishing). Lady down the road buys my bait for her "4 year" asparagus roots, and sells asparagus root all over North America via the internet, along with a "fish emulsion" as organic fertilizer. I love fresh asparagus, but never realized there was a cottage industry, nor the care required, nor what she called hers "4 year". Thanks Eric for this video. I think I'd like to now try to grow some.

Will gophers and voles/moles eat the roots if they go down so deep? I know you have gopher issues so how do you remedy the asparagus roots? Thanks.
