I was given a homework assignment like this once after a first interview. The assignment was to do some very specific research. It took me 8-10 hours. The organization used my research at a press conference with members of Congress and hired a different candidate. Needless to say, I felt used. Don't make job-searchers work for free. It's rotten. If you want an interview candidate to read a book and write an essay, compensate them for it.

I noticed about two months ago your building is about half a mile from my place in Fort Lauderdale. I was considering applying for a job there. After watching this video and seeing some of the qualifications that you're looking for, my credit would fail the smell test. My degree in broadcasting and being a graphic artist and knowing Adobe products would not be enough to get hired. So I have to stick to my original plan and create a LLC. it's easier than filling out a job application and doing an interview. By this way I could be a contractor and work for myself. Hopefully you could be in of my clients in the future. I will eventually be knocking on your door soon. Your right down the road from me.

Great content. #9 - Do realize that in many markets, there are trade organization that have salary and benefits surveys among all local employers. Also, what you consider to be great benefits for professional employees may NOT be what your hourly manufacturing employees really want. Also, if you tilt your benefits toward people with families by giving additional PTO, what are you doing for those employees who do NOT have children and you are often asking to "pick up the slack" when these parents are out on leave? As a retired controller of a manufacturing company based in the USA, I would love to discuss this point with you.

Well, I had a boss who clearly saw me as a threat and basically spent months trying to make my life hell, and nitpicking on every single thing I did or didn't do. He ended up making up reports that said I was performing at 30% efficiency (tech support job), he held a meeting every week with HR and other bosses(none of whom knew anything about our job or team) saying I was "still at 30% and no improvement" - while showing absolutely no proof of that, and even his colleagues tried to pressure for concrete statistics. In the end I went through my own work, with ticket numbers(we each were doing a certain number of tickets per day) and conducted a quality report , step by step, and backed it up with evidence and confirmations from the client side as well as the quality management department. My quality was at 87%. Just by comparison, the team's overall average quality was at 50-60%. I realized this guy was just set on getting me fired, and since it was a bullshit hierarchical structure, nobody wanted to really confront him, because he was a total narcissist, most likely. So I cut a deal with HR that I would sign my resignation for 3 months of pay in advance. You can bet I won't give this guy as a reference. And if someone even mentions his name my body language would probably say stfu about this prick, but not because I was the one with a problem. Bottom-line is that some managers are just pricks, and desperate to maintain their position so they will do anything to damage a person's reputation. Not a clear argument for not hiring someone, imo.

As a hiring authority, I've practiced just about everything stated here. What I like to look at now more than ever is critical thinking ability. There are several probing questions you can ask that can help determine how likely someone is to think independently, and know where to obtain data/resources to help them make decisions instead of going off hearsay or what is reported by media sources. This is important in today's world as it helps to identify potential employees which may feel alienated by certain topics that delve into politics (business internal or country/geo-political), socioeconomic concerns and etc... And given the issues the world is facing, ESG, CoVID, MonkeyPox, Fed. Reserve, Inflation, WEF, Nato, Ukraine, Emerging Markets (mouthful) -- it's important to know where to place a candidate not just skillset-wise, but leadership-wise as well .... especially if your workforce has to tackle or is impacted by any one of those concerns. I was 6:39 min into the content before I posted this so Pat may cover some of this.

Because they could have very well not read the book at all and just rewrote some type of a summary from the internet. Much like how most students do. I mean, from a candidate perspective, for a senior or executive position in a startup, I get it, as a regular position, this is kind of overboard, people doesn't have time to be reading a book for a specific job posting, I would strongly advice against working for a "testing" period (as this is often gets overly exploited by crapy companies) and if I hear that you look into my credit score, thats my private life my friend, you're overstepping your boundaries. When you're looking for a career change you're often applying or getting ping by recruiters by several companies at once at the same time that you're continuing your current position, unless you're unemployeed you simply don't have the time to be messing with all this overload of the interview process.
@bintheredundat12 жыл бұрын
Hiring someone is much easier than parting ways. There can be legal issues and costs incurred with terminating someone. You also risk company assets, software, client lists etc. A company is putting alot on the line to hire someone. Much more at play that someone accepting that job. It used to be taboo to check credit for someone renting a house. But it's the norm now as the owner is putting up a house worth several thousands of dollars and it's a process to terminate that contract. It's not a stretch for a financial services company to do credit checks. I've seen large Finan services companies do this in Canada.

I think most employers deserve the kind of good-for-nothing, pretentious employees that they hire based on God knows what criteria. In many cases, qualified and hardworking people quit because they're underpaid and/or not appreciated. Meanwhile, some less-than-average person manages to tactfully 'impress' the supervisors and enjoy the credit that they never deserved.
