Have you ever thought your mix sounded perfect in the studio, only for it to sound strange on other sources? Resonant frequencies can often be the culprit.
In this tutorial, Gregor shares a valuable tip to ensure that your mix sounds great every time - not just in a studio environment, but also on small speakers.

I’ve been using Studio One for about 6 months now and I always look forward to Gregor’s and Joe’s videos to learn something new. Today that new thing is the “D” button in the ProEQ bands, which ‘til this moment, I didn’t know existed.

As always when I hit a snag on StudioOne Gregor comes up with the answer! To be honest, I would have moved from studio one to another DAW, except for Greg is intelligent, precise, and detailed explanations of how this product works, and how to make it fit for my purpose. Once again, Gregor excellent exclamation.

This is exactly the kind of advice we need.👌 How to solve problems that appear during the mix. As many techniques as possible, used by professionals.🤩 If as many of us Studio One + members as possible improve our technical knowledge, we will eventually, with the success that follows, make Studio One the leading DAW for the benefit of all of us who use it.😊 Thank you Gregor for your instructions.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Greetings from Slovenia from Robert.

what a great advice! this will surely solve an issue I got with the beautifully improvised piano outro of my last album's title track which is also closing it. I wasn't even aware of that one note in the lower mids completely ruining it for everyone who is listening to it on their cellphone or desktop speakers. Neither my home studio's carefully set up monitors (2 ADAM T5V's and my super reliable 25 years old Speed Link Gravity 2.1 system) nor my cheap car speakers really revealed the unpleasant, distorted "wooomp" spoiling the sad and moody last two minutes of the record. Any of my later attempts at unobtrusively fixing the problem completely failed - either at being unobtrusive or at fixing anything, often at both. But the dynamic EQ really could do the trick, thanks for that! and... yes, please more of that kind of stuff (y)

These peaks are been the bane of my life (I do a lot of ambient stuff with long, sustained notes and huge polychords, so these peaks become very obvious and can ruin a piece), and I've been doing it the old-school way which is a) a ball-ache and b) deadens a lot of the original audio content - THANK YOU for pointing this out! I'm working on a 30-minute piece inspired by H.P. Lovecraft right now and this will help save so much of the character of the weird sounds I've come up with for it :)

so just use a dynamic eq. you can also use multi band saturation and compression. you can use side chains on these and your eq to a envelope generator.
@presonus
@presonus 6 ай бұрын
Hi, most Multiband Compressors have very broad filter slopes, so targeting a very specific frequency in a tight range is difficult. It's like shooting at sparrows with a cannon. The Dynamic EQ on the other hand can deal with these frequency peaks with incredibly transparency and surgical precision. -GBY

Yeah, resonance spikes are a big one when equalizing. Treating them really helps brings clarity to your mix, and I agree, using an analyzer is really helpful for identifying resonance spikes quickly. Speaking of EQ, any chance the S1 EQ will get mid/side and left/right EQ any time? A Q factor on the high and low pass filters would be nice too. :D

Great stuff! Spectrum meter is great but I would love to see an additional longer term average setting like Voxengo Span average. The long term average is great for making static EQ adjustments and then this method addresses the peaks dynamically and both steps combined are the start of my mastering process. Ideally a series of average times all the way up to four minutes wine Fantastic. Don’t tell to submit a ticket because those guys don’t solve problems they are in the business of closing tickets.

Good day. I live in Ukraine and use the official version of Studio One Artist. Since I do not speak English, I often use printed versions of your suggestions for working with the program. I also rewatch the video, I guess about the content only from practical illustrations. I would really like to have a printed text and a video (not a picture) of practical demonstrations. If you are planning to expand the circle of your users, it is advisable to consider my suggestion. Sincerely, Yepik Volodymyr.

The sound lost it's character with the eq notch method because you cut the frequency way to much, you don't want to completely get rid of it just reduce it enough to fix the problem without losing the character. Rebalance the harmonic not remove it altogether, no need for dynamic eq in this case.
@presonus
@presonus 6 ай бұрын
Dynamic EQ would be the superior method whenever a frequency problem is intermittent. No need to cut frequencies when they're not problematic - only as soon as they become problematic, that's when the EQ interferes. This is the true power of dynamic EQing in my opinion. -GBY
