I've only had to do a branch box once because the owner ordered the unit. I installed in basement and as per manual stated. No problems but in my opinion its easier just to install a 5 zone condenser, less connections, less chance for leaks. Even though both branch boxes are separate they both are tied into the same hi an low on condenser. If you have a leak the whole system should loose refrigerant.

I know they recommend having that indoors and I haven't seen the inside of them, but it may be(against factory) viable to place them in a sheltered outdoor space. the insulation on line-set end is more than likely to keep it from condensing and water damaging indoors. as for the electrical/electronics, who knows how they're sealed and allowable ambient temperatures, but I'd imagine a very wide range. and fairly well sealed in case of crawl space or attic installation. one of the big issue I seen was no drip loops/bends on the line-sets, allowing any rain/snow/other to run straight down onto the plywood/house-wrap and into the equipment. the leak issue is likely bad flare ends and improper torque and id not be surprised if there was non-condensable crud in the system from leaking and recharging. it being low on gas, could allow much of the oil to be entrapped out in the system causing low to no flow to some areas and since it looks like all the lines ran mostly vertical, including to the condenser, having the control equipment down lower than everything is likely holding oil there and making the valving not work right. so yeah, pretty much shred it apart and reinstall with different layout, I'm guessing they want the distributors within a certain height of the evaporators for oil return and pooling issues.
@edwardlouie3 жыл бұрын
Those distribution box suggest this LG system is a Multi V S system with heat recovery to enable simultaneous heating and cooling. That is a very good and very efficient system if installed correctly but also a very expensive and complex system. Those have to be installed by someone who understands the complexity of the installation and the software side. Looks like this installer was over their heads.
@SureShotImages3 жыл бұрын
At what point do we say “enough is enough” and find a happy medium of “efficient enough” and “easy to service/install”. When this system goes down, even if installed correctly (because let’s be real here…it WILL go down) you’re up shits creek. Keep it simple, stupid.
@edwardlouie3 жыл бұрын
@@SureShotImages I understand your concern. But interestingly over the decades cars have become more complex and yet their reliability and longevity has increased rather than decreased. I don't miss the days of stick shift transmissions or carburetors. Why not take the heat rejected to outdoors from AC and use some of that for heating water or supplying heat to a dryer for example? Why pay to heat water and clothes when there is plenty of nearly free heat available all summer long? That can happen with heat pumps that can do VRF and heat recovery and interconnecting appliances together. Yes it is more complex to run all of that line set. However in new construction it might add minimal to no cost if this tying of appliances together can result in savings at each component. For example a heat pump water heater would be less expensive because it doesn't need to include the heat pump portion just the line set wrapped around the tank. A dryer could be less expensive because it doesn't need to include a compressor or heating elements. A dehumidifier could be less expensive by not needing to include a compressor.
@superchuck32593 жыл бұрын
@@edwardlouie But is the refrigerator and oven combo really a good idea? Basically this system could heat some zones and cool other zones. That is sorta silly in a home. Maybe in some business where the kitchen needs chillin and the guest seating needs heat, right, but not in this home use case.
@techdaddy79553 жыл бұрын

Its going to be harder than you think. All the line sets leaving the heads have to run to a new location. Plus the 2 larger line sets from the condensor will be a much longer run to the D box. The location of each head was most likely chosen because of where the pipes were going, now an alternate plan would be in order. Plus the drain lines would have to be taking into consideration. 14/3 wires also have to follow D box to each head.

Seems like the real problem was an incompetent tech/installer - be it friend or not. My mother in law upstate NY had a 2 head LG mini split installed; never worked well and leaked out after 1 summer. Installer had incompetent flaring and evacuation procedures, and wouldn’t service it either. Mini splits seem to only make sense in areas with enough HVAC contractors around who are well familiar with that technology. I would absolutely not recommend mini splits for upstate NY.

Three years in you could have gave them a quote to fix it instead and in doing so gave them a better understanding of how they have been wronged. I would have been insulted by your delivery and even wandered if you were upset that this system was DIY installed maybe, and no money could be made here cuz there are more bad service contractors there there are competent capable contractors and finding one that will show up,call u back, not charge insane amount of money is something that has been lost along time ago. So the point is how do you think you would stand out among so many imposters and create a clientele list that you could grow into loyal customers and endless work translates to solid money and free advertising. I wish I could tell you the stories I have of contractors it is amusing at best. People that have broken stuff are already bummed trust me, they want the problems fixed and to have waited that long and suffered and get the hard truth that a lawsuit and more contractors before they can get cool air in bed is hard enough to swallow. Just my opinion. I think you should have said I can fix it but it means I have to redo it are you prepared for that. And let them decide while they enjoy cold air pursuing the bad guy install.

Would of done the same thing. Once you touch it you own it. If they do rip it out they’ll probably give you the job.

I’m afraid they probably did the best they’re capable of doing😂 If that company is an approved LG dealer, LG needs to be made aware of the shoddy work they turn out. That poor quality installation actually harms the good name of LG❗️I wonder if the installation company ever had their employees attend any kind of LG schooling?
