I read Think and Grow Rich A Black Choice at 21, I’m 56 now. It changed my thinking forever. That was the first self help book I ever read. It should be required reading in high school along with the autobiography of Malcolm X. Both life changing books.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience, James67851! We truly appreciate you viewing and commenting on the post. It's fantastic to hear that Dr. Kimbro's book, "Think and Grow Rich: A Black Choice," had such a profound impact on you at a young age. It's a powerful testament to the enduring value of his message. We couldn't agree more with your suggestion that this book, along with Malcolm X's autobiography, could be valuable additions to high school curriculums. These works have the potential to empower and inspire future generations. In fact, your comment highlights exactly why we invited Dr. Kimbro to kick off the EMPOWER Series back in 2011 kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJvGdadsjZiCbtEsi=kscyweC2tXJyCU62. We believe it's important to keep his message alive and ensure that future generations are aware of his work and impact. We would love for you to help us spread the word! Would you be willing to share your thoughts about Dr. Kimbro's book with your friends and family, or perhaps even recommend it on social media?

I know right?! Very inspiring. This was the first time I heard of Oseola McCarty, a washerwoman who donated $150,000 of her life savings to the University of Southern Mississippi. She was a philanthropist who inspired others to give back to their communities. How she became a philanthropist: 1) McCarty saved half of her earnings from washing clothes for over 60 years. 2) She was able to retire comfortably at age 87. 3) She decided to donate her savings to help students at the University of Southern Mississippi. Although it was Oseola McCarty's initial intent for the scholarship to go to African American students as stated in past interviews, the program is open to all students who meet the criteria. Oseola McCarty Scholars Program (MSP) (www.usm.edu/undergraduate-scholarships/oseola-mccarty-scholars.php) The Oseola McCarty Scholars Program was created in 2018 as an extension of the Oseola McCarty Endowment offered by The University of Southern Mississippi. The Oseola McCarty Scholars Program honors the legacy of a Hattiesburg native who gave a significant portion of her life savings to the University in order to help students afford college. Oseola Mccarty had a strong work ethic, giving heart, and a love for helping others. The program is built on Oseola McCarty’s servant attitude and financial impact to the community with her generous donation to the University. Oseola McCarty Scholars participate in activities that center around leadership, DEI training, financial wellness, career development, and community involvement. Oseola McCarty Scholars possess a strong work ethic, leadership skills, and a commitment to serving others through community service and school organizations. Oseola McCarty Scholars are chosen fairly through the freshman competitive scholarship application process to embark on this meaningful life endeavor.

@iLoveTheLetterD We're so glad Dr. Kimbro's message, especially in sharing Oseola McCarty's story, resonated with you! It's a powerful reminder of how precious and finite our time is, and how even seemingly small, consistent actions, when done with intention, can create a lasting legacy. The fact that we don't know how much time we have makes it even more important to use each moment wisely. It truly gives us goosebumps too! Thank you for watching, commenting, and subscribing to the channel. We're passionate about empowering people through financial literacy and personal development, helping them make the most of their time and resources. Is there anything specific you'd like to learn more about in these areas? We're always looking for ways to provide valuable content.

A Remarkable Woman, an Unforgettable Gift and a Legacy Beyond Compare Hattiesburg native Oseola McCarty’s unexpected planned gift to The University of Southern Mississippi made global news in the mid-’90s, not because it was the largest gift ever made, but because the woman behind the gift captured the hearts of all who heard her story. In 1995, McCarty designated USM as the beneficiary of a $150,000 planned gift, forever changing philanthropy at the University. As an 87-year-old laundress who lived frugally, this gift represented the majority of her life savings. An endowment was established in her name, and to date, $631,397 in scholarships have been awarded to 130 students from south Mississippi. @@denepO_Empress I am Stephanie Bullock, the 1st recipient of the McCarty Scholarahip. Because of Ms. Ola's sacrfice I completed college debt free. That was about 30 yrs ago. Since then there have HUNDREDS of McCarty Scholars, the honors dorm is named after her, there is a bronze statue of her on campus, & this spring the city of Hattieaburg will open her home as an interactive museum. Because so many people have continually donated to her scholarahip fund (which is in a trust) will live in perpituity so hundreds more McCarty Scholars can continue to excel.
