Hi @ICEYWAYDRACO and @krissycassavell76 , this is a great discussion! While Raleigh/Durham, NC, had a thriving Black business district, it's important to remember that there were many other communities across the US that were also known as "Black Wall Streets." These were centers of Black economic prosperity and self-sufficiency, often created in response to segregation and limited opportunities elsewhere. Here are a few examples, for educational purposes: Greenwood District, Tulsa, Oklahoma: This was perhaps the most well-known "Black Wall Street," tragically destroyed in the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921. Jackson Ward, Richmond, Virginia: This was a prominent center of Black business and culture in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Hayti, Durham, North Carolina: This was a thriving Black community with a vibrant business district. Sweet Auburn, Atlanta, Georgia: This area was a hub of Black-owned businesses and home to prominent figures like John Wesley Dobbs. Bronzeville, Chicago, Illinois: This neighborhood was a center of Black culture and commerce, particularly during the Great Migration. West Ninth Street, Little Rock, Arkansas: This was a bustling commercial district for Black residents. Farish Street, Jackson, Mississippi: This street was the heart of Black business and social life in Jackson. These are just a few examples, and there were many other communities where Black entrepreneurs and business owners created thriving economies. It's crucial to remember this history and recognize the resilience and ingenuity of Black communities in the face of adversity.
