1000000% I couldnt agree more. And i love the “dont let your kid quit because hes losing because then he’ll be a loser AND a quitter.”

I feel for me personally whenever I lose. I feel so demotivated, and then I realize that if I ever meet adversity in my life I will collapse and fold over the pressure.

Losing burns my ass and makes me want to be better! All depends on how you take it stranger.

The only skill + character building activity left for kids. I have my boys wrestle to have fun. But it’s for skill and character building. Be strong so you can help others. They get it. Great stuff God bless ☦️

I tell my kids they have to finish the season every time they start a sport

Only rime I felt like that was at my first wrestling camp. I was always the biggest kid, and even though I was in the 6th grade my weight put me with 7th and 8th graders. Even though I was just a big kid a coach realized what was happening and took care of things Wanted to quit, but didn't.

I don't agree with this "never quit" mentality. I went out for sports when I was a kid and I was never good at them. Coaches yelled at me, other players laughed and made fun of me, and I never got any better. I tried to stick it out as best I could but nothing got better. As a consequence, all I ever got was a broken finger and bullied by kids who were supposed to be my teammates. Sometimes you can love something but it'll never love you back. It was an abusive relationship I had with sports. And just like any abusive relationship, it's best to stop hoping it'll get better and just leave. That's what I did and I was better off for it.

Makes sense but wouldn't the kid need to become self motivated at some point to become really good?

Of course, that either comes with time or doesn't.

Depends. One of my 5 boys was considered a “natural “ by the local D1 coach who saw him in practice at 5yrs old. Wrestling was fun for him until he ran into others that were as good or better, and then it wasn’t. So yes, to be “really good” at the highest levels where everyone is gifted, those that work hardest will do best. So the ideal combo is: naturally gifted and loves it.
