I ain't gonna lie: this show had me fooled and I was 15. Even though deep down, I knew it wasn't real, it still freaked the shit out of me. Now I'm a huge horror and monster fan and I definitely enjoy these episodes as guilty pleasures. Great video, Audrie! All your Race to the Edge jokes had me dying, by the way.

I don’t know why but I wanted to do a rewrite of this show where all the monsters are instead prehistoric creatures, so here is my synopsis for episodes 1 - 5 of The Lost Tapes: Prehistoric Edition Major changes for every episode: Each episode features every creature on screen much more often than the show. the Testimonials are about the sightings and the sightings alone and are used more sparingly and at the beginning and ending alone Episode 1 - Velociraptor Episode 2 - Therizinosaurus Episode 3 - Elasmosaurus Episode 4 - Kaprosuchus Episode 5 - Ammonite Episode 1 starts with the same premise of the original version with a family being ditched somewhere in the desert. They are then attacked by a pack 5 Velociraptors and it is implied they have no weapons and no car. One of the parents is killed by the raptors while the other is mortally wounded. Later, the surviving parent and child are being stalked by the pack and the parent decides to call, border patrol to hide the kid and sacrifices him/herself and distracts the swift thieves. Border patrol arrives and finds the kid but then cops are distracted by some noises and are attacked by the Velociraptors. One cop dies and the other scares the raptors away by shooting in their general direction. The remaining cop and child are on their way out when one of the dromaeosaurs jumps out for one last scare and before being tossed out the door or window and tumbles down the road but still survives. The pack of raptors are implied to have moved on to somewhere in the vast desert region. Episode 2, starts with not Kristen Belle in addition to earring unknown animal screeches, finds massive claw marks on the trees and large theropod footprints in the woods as well as a deer with huge slashes on it. Later, she briefly spots the culprit in the distance, a Therizeinosaurus. Later, she looks for the massive dinosaur and it attacks her and follows her to the cabin where it busts open a window as it swipes at her. In the scene where not Kirsten Belle is confronted by Poacher Guy, the Theri comes back and chases away poacher guy who shoots the dinosaur twice in the leg and once on its side. Not Kristen Belle finds the injured Theri and convinces it that she is not a threat. She then heals the Theri and feeds it over the course of a few weeks and protects from the poacher, forming a bond between the two. At the scene where not Kristen Belle is confronted by poacher guy and company at the cabin, the Therizinosaurus, now fully healed, charges in and kills all the poachers (and there is no dangling corpse). Episode 3 features Cheren out boating and is not in contact with anybody on land and is recording but not live streaming her trip. She hears the guy dying on the radio and is rightfully concerned. Shortly after, her boat is bumped by something in the water. Cheren soon spots the silhouette of the Elasmosaurus. She soon dives into the water to get a closer look with a video camera to record her find and is chased out of the water by a shark. She later spots the shark’s corpse and shortly after finding the boat with blood all over it, the Elasmosaurus rams itself into the boat before revealing itself. As the plesiosaur lunges at her, Cheren who doesn’t have any weapons with her tries to fight back using makeshift weapons such as paddles. After the sea creatures slithers it head back into the water, Cheren decides to get the heck out of there and drive away as fast as possible, only for the marine reptile to damage the rudders and bite onto Cheren as it tries to drag her into the water and then knocks her in when it rams the boat again. Cheren fails to get back on the boat as the shadow of the Elasmosaurus is seen menacingly swims towards her before dragging her underwater. Episode 4 has the two main character people investigating the swamp when the guy jumped by a Kaprosuchus and the two abandon the backpack as they run for their lives. Main character peoples meet Bud Ray and the guy steps on the eggs to which the Kapro returns and chases them again and biting the A-hole guy on the leg. The Kapro attacks the two main dudes in the tent and is scared off by Bud Ray. Episode 5 starts the same as the original version but faster paced as the college people go out on the platform in the lake but one of them has their leg injured by the Ammonite squeezing and tugging on them. The guy who gets the boat and is dragged underwater. I can’t come up with any new differences so the rest of the episode is pretty much the same besides the change of pacing and the cephalopod has a shell.

The funniest thing about the Chupacabra episode to me, is that they heavily lean into the Mexico angle, then use the Cuero/Texan Chupacabra which is completely different from the original Mexican/central American Chupacabra. Texan Chupacabra: Mangy coyote/dog hybrid according to DNA samples we actually have of them. Mexican Chupacabra: Short reptilian vampire man with webbed armpits who glides at it's victims to drink their blood.

I think around 14 I ran into an episode on KZbin, it was after a River Monster's binge, and so- it was a killer fish episode, which, well, I knew fish could kill you; I was confused if it was a true story and a reanactment- or what. The thought it could be real passed my mind, but-- I wasn't convinced. Then I watched the Octopus episode and- well that horror concept of something dragging you under water lives rent free in my head to this day, it, proceeded into the giant snake episode slowly cooled my anxiety that any of it could be real into a new show to binge because-- well it's hilarious.

I did some research on the Oklahoma Octopus and I read from one source that some Native American legends date back over 200 years that tell of strange aquatic creatures "with a desire for human flesh" that lives in some of Oklahoma's lakes. I guess they are said to live in Lake Tenkiller, Lake Thunderbird, and Lake Oologah. Both these lakes have an unusually high number of unexplained drownings and disappearances of swimmers. Also, I read somewhere that in 2003, a fisherman named John Mazurek caught an octopus in Mayflower, Arkansas in Lake Conway. One guess as to how it got there is someone may have had an aquarium and it grew too big so they dumped it in the lake. The largest species of octopus is the Pacific Octopus which can grow up to 16 feet. However, there is NO physical evidence of an octopus living in any of the lakes of Oklahoma. P.S. I loved this show as a kid and I still watch it from time to time. I don't know about others, but this show used to scare me when I was 8, the first episode I saw was the HellhoundSo

Came here once seeing a clip of this in your T9R season 2 video, and I got to say. I'm happy to see someone remembers this show and thought it was real as a kid as well. The monster of Monterey is the one I remember the most, mainly due to it having a incredibly inaccurate plesiosaur be the monster in the episode lol, if you can even call it that with how bad the CGI is for it lmao. Also fun fact, it is an actual real cryptid, except the real one is confirmed to be a Baird's beaked whale. Not a plesiosaur or reptile like sea monster. Nessie has plenty of copy cats from all over the world, some are more blatant than others. But I'll stop the cryptid nerd in me and say that I had a blast watching the video, the edits are funny as hell lol

The “Oklahoma Octopus” episode almost copy’s a part of a movie called creep show 2. 4 or 5 teens hang out before going to college and go to a lake. After that they get on a wooden raft and then notice a tar monster, (think of the blob, but can float on water) in the water and eats them one by one. I recommend the movie it’s fucking awesome and gory as hell. Also as corny and cheap lost tapes was, it was my favorite show as a kid.
