@DC-pr2bqАй бұрын
There are a lot of factors at work here. I've done carry-on only for 2 weeks in Europe, partially because there were connecting flights with short layovers. But when my flight is direct, nonstop, I usually check that same carry-on bag. It's unlikely to get lost, I don't have to navigate the airport and restrooms with it, and it frees up space for others. The airlines brought this on themselves by focusing on greed over the passenger experience. I'm old enough to remember when air travel was fun.
@TheMichaelCoxАй бұрын
I'm old enough to remember when every single passenger didn't insist on carry-on only and then carry on two of the largest bags allowed (plus a third if they can swing it), then REFUSE to gate-check (for FREE) when asked. Many airlines let you check bags free just for holding their credit card - wouldn't call that "greedy." Sadly, a lot of the "fun" had to do with the fact that flying was more exclusive.
@kimberlyfamoly5863Ай бұрын
The pillow thing will not work on most airlines at it count as your personal item, they were even telling people that they need put neck pillows in their bags.
@DaveTexasАй бұрын
Did you not finish the third grade? What you wrote is an incomprehensible jumble of run-on sentences. Commas are not replacements for semicolons. You also need to proofread before posting; your "sentence" makes no sense due to what appears to be an error in a preposition.
@OnlythenarrowroadАй бұрын
Gate check your bag when they call for volunteers and you are trying to avoid the fees. But you still need to prepare if that doesn’t happen. Which means you pack in the allowed size for a carry on. It also depends on the length of a flight and where one is going.
@richjones646917 күн бұрын
When I pack, I'll weigh. If I'm over limit, I'll cull. Still leaves me with enough to wear, plus tech and other gear. Less weight also facilitates ease of movement. And it's okay to do laundry during a trip.
@birdgirl2623Ай бұрын
The problem with trying to conceal things under your clothing--is that before or after you go through the body scanners? Plus TSA does keep an eye out for people who seem to be concealing things---you might be pulled out of line to show them you aren't carrying drugs or some other contraband. This is so dumb.
@limitlessbiancaАй бұрын
After, i’m guessing. TSA doesnt really care about the amount of bags you carry with you, the airline does. But tsa could warn/stop you if you obviously carry so many bags like, 5?? 😂 (happened to my mom once, she had a purse, carry on luggage, and 2-3 more small shopping/grocery bags on her).
@luxurytravelspotlightАй бұрын
When I used to travel weekly for business, I would keep a small (store branded) bag from a previous purchase from one of the airport stores in my luggage for emergencies. If I couldn't fit everything on my flight home, I'd use that emergency bag to carry excess items. It worked flawlessly for years. We used to say that the frequent traveler is always going to be smarter than the corporate folks in a boardroom inventing travel policy.

You’re 💯 correct about bag size enforcement in Europe. I always remember the time when I was leaving MUC. The “Frau” patrolling the area before security saw my carry on bag (granted I had opened the extender) and stopped me. When I went to prove my bag was within the limit, it didn’t fit. She was good! So I had to do that walk of shame to the check in desk. The upside was that I had PE so I had a 2 bag allowance.
@birdgirl2623Ай бұрын
One viral TikTok "hack" involves putting your airplane seatbelts around your ankles--supposedly so you will be able to sleep on long flights without sliding or falling out of your seat (even though if you just wore your seatbelt like you're supposed to, it will keep you in your seat). The problem with this "hack" is that in case of bad turbulence, wearing a seatbelt around your ankles makes it more likely you're gonna get thrown out of your seat, bump your head on the ceiling, etc. In case of an emergency, it would also take you longer to get out of the seatbelt. Apparently, it can also cause blood clots from restricted blood flow if the belt is constricting your ankles and keeping them immobile for a long time.
@PJWestfieldАй бұрын
I am always amazed at what people consider "carry-on" when they are boarding the plane and then it takes longer for them to try to find room to stuff it all into an overhead bin (more than likely a regional jet as I normally fly out of IND).

I was that size at six months. You can be even bigger with twins. Unless the airlines ask you to remove your clothes and show everyone your belly, I’m not sure how they would check that. The only thing they can do is put a x-ray at each gate, which is not only expensive but also, I’m pretty sure illegal for them to give you an x-ray without your consent.

Worked at an International Airport for 3 years in the Transport Authority side, these hacks are always a risk, one Airline might accept it one day and not the other, one Customs, or TSA agent might let it slide, then another might not. If you're willing to take the risk then be prepared that you may have to forfeit items you thought you could get by with. Whether by throwing them away or surrendering them. I 100% guarantee that the excuse of "I did this before at such and such airport", will not fly and no one cares. Some airlines can even revoke your ticket if they think you are trying to work the system. TSA has no problem putting someone on the no fly list, or mandatory search list... It's much easier to just follow the Airline and TSA guidelines than trying to save a buck and end up losing out in the end. I also guarantee if the Airline or checkpoint is busy and you create a spectacle, or hold up the process of other passengers, you will get that extra attention you desired by trying these hacks.

I remember the last super-filled flight I took out of Chicago, there was a bottleneck as the ticket agents were trying to figure out how to fit everybody and their myriad bags on to the plane. I loved it when I was asked, “Is that all you got?” and was waved through. A few minutes later, when I saw folks scurrying back and forth trying to find space in the overhead bins, I got up, retrieved my Underseat Pro backpack and stuck it under my seat to make room for some one else. My personal item was a small purse, so it was no problem fitting both bags under the seat. I feel sorry for folks who are forced to gate-check their bags-I think it's best to just go ahead and plan (and pack) better.

@@durhamskywriter "plan (and pack) better" is doing a fair bit of hand waving though. I recently moved to a new country over seas. Taking as much (legal) advantage of the overhead bins was inescapable as we tried to pack as many of our belongings as possible. Maybe our case was extreme, but parents travelling a baby can easily run into maxing out their luggage very quickly. I'm sure most people getting caught in bad spots like that probably packed things that they intended to use in their travel; there's all sorts of other reasons to be pushing the limits. And with extra baggage fees as high as they are, man, I can't fault people for taking to other means in hopew to bypass it, lol

I have a friend who has worked both as a flight attendant and as a ticketing agent at the check-in counter. He says that he and all his co-workers know every trick people try to pull. It makes me angry when people bring bags that are clearly larger than the limit as a carry-on. I took a tape measure with me (and the common dimensions written down) when I selected by carry-on. It's not lying or stealing. If people who are overweight, are able to be spilling into your seat then I have absolutely no issues with people trying to wear extra clothes/bags as their weight still will be less than an overweight/obese person who didn't buy 2 seats and have their fat in your space.
