Family is a strong pull. Elderly parents bought us back. I retired from the AF and really could have relocated anywhere. Home will always be home.

Columbia is a decent city . It just needs more businesses, shopping areas, traffic lights. At night it can seem very dark. I moved back here after being in Charlotte metro. I enjoy the slower pace of life

Yes! They are growing, so I can see it down the road. But a lot to still happen.

We relocated 2.5 years ago from Pennsylvania. Your video is 100% on point. I really like the ability to get to Columbia in 1/2 hour and find it a enjoyable city. Philadelphia was overwhelming and took an hour by train to get there. There are positives and negatives everywhere . You just need to embrace the change and the humidity. 😅

Big infrastructure nerd here. Also, I am an engineer. Widening interstates does not fix traffic. It actually causes a phenomenon known as traffic generation. The only real solution to traffic would be to redesign zoning to incorporate mixed use and public transportation. That actually does reduce traffic.

I can see that past 3 lanes, but 1 lane to 2 and 2 to 3 really does relieve the semi truck bottlenecks, merging issues and traffic caused by them pretending to race each other 5mph below the speed limit for 5 miles hahah. Outside that, I can see it.

@@brandongaronteam Yeah, the circumstance really does matter. It's also important to delegate certain roads for certain applications. Some roads should be for moving people. Other roads should exist for facilitating destinations. The issue in the US is we tend to try to move people and have destinations along the same road. This creates an issue of having a 4 lane "highway" with all these points of conflict. This road then needs to be maintained like a highway but only provides the benefit of a street. Also, they are so dangerous, that this type of development is illegal in multiple European countries.

Yes, I always wondered why the quaint downtowns had such narrow streets, but the ones that seemed best posed for traffic, don’t thrive.. it’s actually very intentional to help those areas thriving. I guess that was the premise of Cars… www.strongtowns.org/journal/2020/12/2/heres-what-not-to-do-to-your-small-town-main-street

@@brandongaronteam haha I've read that exact article before. Its definitely important for us to consider the context around our road development and how it impacts local businesses and such.

I love it here, we live right near Blythewood but like any area you move to, it's never perfect. So to comment on your video, it's not so much the traffic, it's the drivers. Worst part of this area is that the drivers don't know how to drive. You have really slow drivers or super fast drivers, no in between and they don't know how to drive through a four-way. We can live with the heat, critters, taxes etc... people are super nice :)

You often hear the term "The rural south". It's a common reference. But as you say it depends on where you are coming from and that makes "rural" subjective. If you are coming from SoCal or Long Island NY, it's rural. If one comes to SC from smaller town Maine, Pennsylvania, or Minnesota its almost laughable by comparison.

While it’s part perspective, these areas are actually deemed rural by USDA Housing guidelines.

We are a retired CG family so we are use to moving around! I totally get the massive exit of a lot of states! We have had a lot move to Williamsburg Va , we have been thinking about the Charleston sc area but it’s gotten so crowed and prices crazy , thinking we need to stay put because of those two things! Praying trump becomes president and maybe we will have a option again🙌👻

Thanks for the comment. If the economy turns in a positive direction, I doubt it makes home prices tumble, hopefully groceries, gas etc, but I think it pushes homes higher, as more buyers jump back into the market that have been sitting on the sidelines.
