i was at antones, many years ago, when i was young. i was there watching eric johnson, ordering a beer. and malford came up next to me and ordered a beer too. we both said whats up to each other. this was back before i knew who he was. you could imagine my surprise, when he got up on stage and started singing!

I got to see them live in Greenville SC, I think around 1992. What an AWESOME show. Got to go backstage later and meet them. Such nice folks. This is one of my favorite songs from the Storyville CD I played a million times! Even my kids loved it, and STILL love it.

Got to meet Malford when he was with Stick People, Cannibal Club, Austin, 1991. What a sweetheart. Saw these guys at Antone's (the real Antone's, not the new one) and everywhere until I left Austin in '99. Good stuff, man. Love to Malford from the Collegiate Peaks of the Rockies a thousand miles and many years later...

Barbara Argueso I agree Barbara, Malford was a great guy. I saw him sing with Sue Foley at Antone's (yes- the real one) back in the late 80's-early 90's and they lit the place UP. Malford used to walk by our house (one my brother and I rented), come sit on the stoop and crack pecans with us and tell stories about his career. I do also remember Stick People. Malford was a witty and funny guy and was a presence to be reckoned with on stage. Miss him. Miss Storyville. Miss a lot of things from the Austin of old - but that's what memories are built from.

If he had sang this tune on "The VOICE" - he would have turned heads as well as chairs...but remember, he didnt sing this tune - the one he sang, he sang "Flat" in several spots and trust me...If Eric Clapton showed up unannounced and sang flat...no chairs would have turned. Song choice to fit your voice - as this song right here proves - his voice sounds so very very soulful and spot on pitch~!

Was his 'The voice' appearance a joke? a form of humour, so he could sing 'Let's stay together' and appear on the show. Perhaps a producer likes him and thought he could squeeze him in a spot for fun. The intention was that no judge would turn, because they knew it was a stunt too. I'd like to imagine this is true.

Regarding the VOICE or any other TV clownfest, they're ALL rigged! I've worked on many shows--(going all the way back to Queen for a Day!) and there's always a "panel" that includes the Producer or assistants in the back room who pick the winner. It's all about money, always was, always will be its not real. That's what BUSINESS is about baby...Malford has been compared to Al Green and dozens of other great vocalists. TV is about PHONY. Malford looks different thats all.
