G’day guys, keen viewer of your vids. A couple of ideas to float past you. With the diesel heater - add 1 litre of kerosene to 10 litres of diesel fuel this stops the diesel fuel from jellying up. Secondly, with the caravan moving backwards prior to unhitching we have & use a device called “X Chocks” they are an American piece of kit ( not cheap ) & fit between the tandem wheels. They come with a wrench supplied but I use a drill & 13mm socket. Place these in the wheels prior to commencing unhitching & fasten. They will ensure that the caravan will not move. They also stop the van from rocking in strong winds as well. I’d like to send a photo of these but I don’t think this platform can do that. Cheers.

I have, given to me, a terrific check list which was laminated and I have it attached to inside cupboard with Blue Tac. After every time I have packed up inside, Last thing I do before I walk out the door is check my checklist. I go down it to make sure everything is done. This includes me checking the water pump is turned off etc etc.

Always enjoy your videos. A couple of extra “don’t”. Do not connect water in CP without making sure tap is off or travel without plug in sinks; put the TV aerial down; make sure the toilet is “open” before using it. One question about the lock in the door. Our lock only disables the mechanism. I may be wrong, so it doesn’t matter whether it is locked or not.
@suelandolt68407 ай бұрын
Tha ks John those are some great tips! Yes the lock should disable the mechanism however with our Aussie Traveller door when it swung open we were told its because we didn't lock it? We ha e left the TV aerial up ad well!

I’ve got another thing…. Never put oil in the front of your pantry cupboard. Door opened and plastic 1l bottle of olive oil all through our brand new caravan! Took about 2 hours and many rolls of paper towel to clean up. Lesson learnt . Thanks for your great tips.

😮😮😮 that must have been a horrible experience! Thanks a great tip and hope that doesn't happen. The worst I have had is a jar lid come off on corrugation amd it was sundried tomatoes so all the oil splashed around the fridge, that also took about 2 hours to clean! Have a great weekend!

Hi guys, when we were travelling on the Oodnadatta Track, rocks flicked up and snapped off the plastic drain tap on one of our water tanks. Luckily we caught it almost immediately as we stopped to take some photos. We plugged the hole with a piece for shaped pool noodle that was stuffed into place and then covered with lots of silicon to seal it all off. Most of the water was saved and our temporary fix lasted 5-6 weeks until we got back home to Perth. We now have screw in plugs rather than taps that can be broken off.

I can identify with a few of the mistakes you've made. In our early days, we realized very quickly to each have designated jobs & written checklists. Now that we've got our routines sorted, we don't have to refer to the written list anymore. The biggest thing we've learned is DON'T RUSH THINGS. Thanks for sharing team. 😊

Another great advice blog troops, well done...Just a tip regards diesel heaters....because our diesel burns very dirty, a guy who services them at a van repair place told me not to be afraid of including the occasional litre of kerosene into the tank. This burns cleaner and helps keep the combustion chamber cleaner, adding longer service time. I actually had a gas heater installed in our latest van because gas is so much cleaner and so far (touch wood) all is good.....keep it up people, look forward to next episode....stay safe....ciao...

The most scary wind pick up we experienced was at Daly Waters pub over the xmas break. A crazy freak storm cell hit right over the pub. We knew it was going to be crazy when the donkeys and goats in the park all started running in to the beer garden 🤣. Next thing we knew the van was rocking and shaking, it felt like it was going to tip over or get crushed under a falling tree. It was a wild 15 minutes after a scorching hot 40+ day.

Hi Kay, thanksnso mich. We have a compost toilet and it is 💯 better than the Cassette. We have only had the Ogo but I like it as it is an electric agitator and you don't have to take the whole toilet out to clean it. My washing machine uses quite a bit of water. You are right about not letting diesel get stale. Also, with diesel heaters, never use 'Alpine Diesel', this is a type of diesel that has added wax, it is sold during winter around the alpine regions such as Victoria and New South Wales.

Great tips, which will likely save some costly repairs. A quick question on tire pressures - you mentioned running at 60psi cold, what kind of psi do they get up to after travelling some hours on a warm to hot day? And what would you take them down to for corrugated roads? Thanks, and happy travels!
