Chewie if u dont mind me requesting, could you make a video on rolling with much heavier guys. i know you have some videos on how to escape mount, side controll etc from heavier opponents but i mean a basic strategy video on wether to try be faster?be more relaxed? picking a better guard style? maybe better favorable submissions over the other. overall general techniques instead of specifics.

I have another way to finish the keylock even tighter than that with the arm grabbing your own wrist bring it closer to the shoulder like right underneath the shoulder itself, then do the motor bike thing and it comes on if u move like 2mm try it out. I found it out when I was training and just tried it worked so well. been training 7 years this year and get people with it all the time perfect for when they put your arm under there head to defend! thanks for all the stuff you share brother! Much respect.

I like the pulling it to the hip but I always tell people to be careful when the do it because some people have tight shoulders and a few (not many but a few) actually tap when you pull the elbow to their hip. another awesome little point (sorry if I'm overstepping) but as it is a key lock, the way I have people remember is a key is useless if you don't put it in the lock. and what is the lock, over half the time in jiu jitsu the answer is the hip, so the hip is the lock. this keylock name is double useful because also when you turn a key, you don't just push the bottom or push the top, you have to turn it with pressure at top and bottom. this helps ppl remember the finish because a lot of new people just try to elevate the elbow which CAN work but is not ideal leverage. Just a little tidbit that I use to help people when I work with them !

Agreed. The wrist curl, snap of the punch, the movement of the wrist during a collar choke. It's the little subtleties that often aren't noticed or are overlooked. Thanks for the comment brother.

I had gotten to the point where I wouldn't try a keylock from side because I couldn't make them work. This looks like just the adjustment that I was missing - will be going for that arm next time I land side. Little ways of remembering how to do things really help when rolling and you get that cloudy memory. Just need to remember to rev that motor.

Chewy, I'm heading out to a military training exercise for almost 3 months. How do I get people to drill or train with me that have never done BJJ before without being obnoxious? I really don't want to go three months without training. Any suggestions on convincing people to try BJJ or solo excercises would be appreciated. (Also, we'd most likely be rolling on flattened MRE boxes)

Tips for getting rid of T rex arms would be great and also could you do a video on how to deal with stiff arm when passing to side mount and dealing with the elbow tucked on the floor when passing to side mount? Please provide fine details.

coming from a catch wrestling background as well, I still use the keylock/double wristlock as primary tools in my arsenal. for me, I can tell if I'm going to finish it before I get my second arm around theirs. the key I found was driving their hand into their armpit, it basically immobilizes their entire arm, up to and including their wrist. a good key lock or double wrist lock doesn't take any strength, the arm is ready to snap as soon as you have your hands in position, and any amount of pressure results in watching the flex of your opponents arm. this is one of the main reasons why I never understood no leg lock rules in grappling tournaments, arm and wrist locks can be much more devastating from those who are well versed
@TheLZempir37 жыл бұрын
typical wrestler complaining about leg locks... JK you're cool.
@tye3ow7 жыл бұрын
you read the entire thing and the only part you absorbed was the very last, what, 7% of it? have your shoulder joint destroyed by a legal shoulder lock, and have your leg broken at the same time, and see which one heals better and results in a higher quality of life. the only reason leg locks are illegal in most tournaments are because jits players typically don't train them
@TheLZempir37 жыл бұрын

the leg lock thing is some part legit and some part protecting the BJJ game from being taken over by leg lock experts that's just the truth. but it is also true that heel hooks in gi pants are a mistake. despite all this, I'm having trouble picturing what you are talking about putting their hand in their armpit for an Americana? their upper arm should be in the way....is there a video of what you are describing

hey Chewie! i wanted to ask how do you get the bow and arrow choke when the guy's chin is down? i always seem to get into the position but there's always the guy's face/chin that's in the way. I know i'm doing something wrong but what is it?
@bigmember59087 жыл бұрын
if they tuck their chin it's ok to face crank them....tucking the chin is not a legit defense it just changes where the pressure goes so you should be able to finish them even if they do. however I suspect the problem I your grip. it is very difficult to tuck your chin so tightly that a lapel wont slip in there esp with the leverage from a bow and arrow. Do you ever get out to Charlotte? I know a guy with a bow and arrow he is ridiculous at. If he didn't already have a nickname we'd have called him the Archer I swear.

As a current highschool wrestler some of the techniques used in bjj see like they would be awkward to me. I'm wondering if it would help with my wrestling career to begin training at a local Bjj gym.
@bigmember59087 жыл бұрын
depends. it can, but some gyms have a pretty bottom focused game playing off their back, that won't help a wrestler much. without knowing what kind of bjj game is played there it isn't a simple "yes" answer. Also other things to consider, do you have the energy to train bjj as well as wrestling ? it can be pretty demanding. Judo is another good option that will help your wrestling more (I feel) then Jiu Jitsu. But BJJ is a good thing to have it teaches some very useful skills and if you ever want to consider MMA def would want BJJ but if you want to really improve your Wrestling to have that be your focus I'd recommend Judo instead. For now at least. Then again some BJJ places have a legit Judo program built in. again it's impossible to give a simple answer because each school is it's own thing.

I'm a noob white belt, but I'm 6'4" 260. I've basically stopped doing Americana's because if I can get on top of anybody in class, I can bully my way to the Keylock. Initially I felt like a one trick pony. Now I am not saying I can go around the room and keylock the whole class, I'm not getting top position against higher belts. BUT I saw a comment saying that you basically can't get keylocks against high level competition....Is that a good reason to stop playing with them? I for sure feel like an asshole when I get it on a guy that I am just simply stronger than.
@bigmember59087 жыл бұрын
Vitor Belfort is pretty good, he is a legit Black Belt and Jon Jones Americana'd him.....getting ANYTHING on high level folks is tough so that theory is pretty crap. and as a White Belt being a one trick pony isn't exactly bad. I't sgood that you want to branch out but keep your keylocks polished to, every submission is hard to get on a skilled opponent if you don't go for it!

hey chewy! im having an issue with my armbars. i have been training for about 6 months and and i think that i should be able to get my armbars to work but when i do them only like 10% of the time they work even when all of my class are White belts (there is only one bue belt). this is mainly because when i do them i hurt myself (private parts) and the other one is that im the lightest in the class and it is very easy for my classmates to put themselves on the side to defend the armbar. so i was Wondering if you had some advice or tips for this?
@Tzarkaan7 жыл бұрын
From my experience with arm bars, maybe try moving your partner's arm slightly off your centre-line so you don't crush your groin. Also, I found I finished them a little more often by orienting a little more towards their head. ex: They face from 12 to 6 on a clock, you would be at 10 or 2, instead of 9 or 3. I'm sure Chewie will have better advice though. Stick with it, they'll come eventually.
@nikolaostziavelis63507 жыл бұрын
Focus more on squeezing your legs together, completely trapping the opponents arm, instead of yanking the arm down like crazy and he will tap before his arm even reaches there
