Great video and very informative! Seems like a lot of us KZbinrs are making costume related videos right now hah! I’d love to see more. Costuming is my favorite part about larp, especially larp related videos. Oh and I hope you get better soon.

Brilliant video Jess! Very good points brought up. Another mistake I see a lot of people making is incorrect footwear! Yes it might look awesome having those fairy shoes that are more lace than shoe but make sure it's something comfortable to walk around in for entire days and make sure it's strong enough to withstand rough terrain and weather! (And people stepping on your feet!) And I 100% agree with making your kit fit your climate. Make summer, winter and wet kits! (Don't be like me and buy a mytholon gambeson made for European winters and wear it during a 35 degree australian summer game day!)

I think I could possibly make a whole video just on Larp footwear. It is often one of those things you don't think about until it's too late.

Every LARP I've been to has advised walking boots or other similar work/combat boots. Any pair of dark boots generally looks good enough, and safety beats looks when it comes to footwear. Or you can wear wellies, and stand in the middle of a puddle with a polearm.

Can you make a larp kit video as in showing what your character wears, getting in and out, weapons/accessories, bags and armor if any with details of what you have and don't have why you decided to skip on some parts if any and what you keept? Sorry it's rambling and long I am really working heavy on my current kit and a very nervous person I accidentally miss alot of details.... Even obvious once....
@OurAdventuringParty3 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, I think so. That's a lot to cover so it may need to be more than one video, but I should be able to whip something up.

So, yeah, I used to go to a LARP where my character had foam butterfly wings made of rigid foam. Durable and safe, but made going to the loo really awkward and a lengthy process of difficult backwards movement. Which was a problem when an encounter was happening that was giving the party a heavy beatdown, and the item we needed to fix the problem was being carried by me. Resulting in a panicked ref going to the loos to check if I was there. I managed to get out and save everyone, but yeah, it was an awkward moment.

For the toilets, a lot of people I know who are more involved in the acting side of things is that there's the 15 seconds rule, where in a rush it should be able to be removed enough for you to use the toilet. That might take longer to put back on if you do so, with a bit more time to normally pull it off, but 15 seconds when going out for it without damaging the costume.

My major tip is make sure it fits. If you're using a balaclava mask, sew up the back until it's very tight to your face (as tight as you can comfortably get it). Then use a small pair of scissors or clippers to cut out the eye holes and mouth until you can fully open your mouth and aren't getting poked in the eye; ideally, the latex should be flat around your eye sockets and just touching the top of your lip. If your mask is too big at the front, you can stitch/glue between the eyes until it fits, but that's a little less durable and tends to make an unpleasant channel for sweat. Note that both cutting and sewing are much more accurately done if you're wearing the mask, so get a mirror or a friend you trust with blades around your eyes. Excess material can be covered with hair, jewellery or whatever else you can think of. Personally I use a selection of hats and helmets wherever possible.

Hey. The internet will lead you to them one way or another usually. Larps have websites, Facebook groups, I actually found my first one on a Wikipedia page. If the internet is not an option for you, try local colleges/universities, they may have a larp group or society.

Everytime i pocked someone acedently in the tavern becouse my sword was pocking out of my sword frog. And now i have an eaven bigger 2 hander so probly only use it in battle close to my tent so after batle i canput it away. Also going toilets in armour is real pain. So tip is to go before you put it on and reguly take it of to go to toilet brakes (if you think there arent going to be battles around that time) i did come out of the toilet building seeing the villiage being attacked by enmy soldiers XD. And believe me for al you wool wearing larper always hand wash wool clothing they shrink in the wash machine. Also gambeson hang them to dry out of sweat (and rain) then wash them by hand. And most larp clothing is not dryer proof so hang it out to dry. Also always take a sewing kit with you to fix your kit

Thanks for this! Im new to larping but I was surprised to learn how similar the rules are to fursuits. Its kinda cool I didnt realize how simmilar they would be until you pointed it out. Now I can at leat be sure I can trust my sewing because if it can hold up for hours walking around a con, a lil running around cant be to much harder on seams
@OurAdventuringParty2 жыл бұрын
It can be pretty hard on the seams depending on where and when you're larping. Being outside for a few days can be strenuous on clothing, especially if weather is bad. Just keep in mind average temperatures, the season and weather conditions and you'll be great :) And remember that temperatures can drop quite a lot at night. Have fun!
