Good points. As a young Marine, 1st visit to PI, just being respectful and sweet, I bought the Mamasan a drink, as she brought me my 1st. They used a token system to win drinks when you bought a girl drink. Not only did I get a token for a drink, shot or even possibly a pitcher, but the mamasan scooped up every token anyone abandoned on the bar and gave them to me. I rarely ever had to pay for another drink for myself ever,... just my first, and one for her. Pretty awesome discovery made due to just being nice.

Being nice would mean not going to poor countries and normalizing families having to send young daughters off to be prostituted in order to survive. Send a Thai family in need the money you'd spend on the trip and exploiting women. That's what you'd do if you were nice.
@rayp40083 жыл бұрын
@@lannys8660 cannot disagree, but at 18 and on a vacation, I wasn't out to "change the world". Also, 3 decades later, after scouting potential retirement locals, after checking Vietnam / Cambodia, with a friend originally from there, and Costa Rica, again with a friend originally from there, I opted to return to PI. Was impressed with the culture and the people on my previous visit. Met, and after 3 return trips, married a sweet lady. I have bought land, built a small kubo for is, as well as pens and pigs for her family to raise and we split the profits. None of my share leaves the country, but is used to improve her family's living conditions. $20k US hospital stay for her father, family funeral plot, and the burial of both her father and grandfather, maintenance funds for the care of an older aunt, and grandmother. As well as food donations made to those in need of her village after Taal volcano kicked up problems while we were there. Only down side is I would prefer to retire in PI full time, where as my wife prefers the US, and she is spoiled rotten. Guess for a guy who you deemed as "taking advantage",.... I am doing much more there, all as a direct result of how much I liked my first visit,..... so all in all,.... pretty nice.

I tip alot in Thailand. If you look after the bar girls, they will look after you. It is Not just at the bars either.I often leave money under the pillow at the hotel I am staying at for the girls that service the rooms. The girls appreciate this and they always give you an extra towel or something.e I regularly give the change back to the waitresses at a restaurant or Cafe. The Thai people appreciate this , Most are friendly and smiling and go out of their way to help 😊

When I use to make good money, long ago when I went to my favorite bar in the Philippines I always gave the man who cleaned the bathrooms a 500 peso tip, 10 us dollars. He made sure I had a good table when I went there and he warned me of any possible people who were no good. He watched out for me and always made sure I had a bucket full of ice. Worth the tip. No one bothered me and I had excellent service and never had to wait long for my beer. I have been to Thailand 2 times and live in Philippines. Every 3 years have to leave the country for at least a day. I will go to Thailand next year for a week. Good food there and pretty girls.

I lived in jomtien for a couple of years and everything you are saying is true. My advice to visitors is to understand that pretty 22 year old farm girl working on walking street or in a gogo bar can and will out smart you and size you up quickly. Decide up front how much you are willing to lose if you are going to play with her. Another advice to understand is when she is busy is that you didn't lose your girl you just lost your turn. Always pay your bar bill. Even if you think it is wrong. If you think the police are going to help you you are wrong. If you tell a girl no a couple of times she will move on. DO NOT buy her friends drinks. DO NOT wear gold necklaces and jewelry out. DO NOT get drunk alone. DO NOT curse or yell at the Thai's. This is s very offensive and it puts you in a fight that is the same as hitting to Thai's. If you want a girl for the night you can meet them at the central mall or Big C during the day when you have not been drinking and they have less make up on so you know what you are getting. The girls have a list of questions used to size you up so I came up with a list of my own. Where do you work? If she says I don't have a job then you are the job. If she says she sales clothes then this is part time for her and a better chance she has low miles. Some of the top girls I knew in the I Bar where making 3-5k a month from men sending them money every month. So my next rule when you leave DONT send back money. I seen this so many times is she will be out with her friends talking to you on the iphone you bought her and the guy she is going home that night is on the other side of the phone where you can't see him. Ok all that being said Thailand is wonderful. I loved where I lived. I even married a Thai woman whom I love and she loves me and takes very good care of me. One thing to remember is most Thai's have had a hard life compared to westerners. Good jobs are rare and most Thai's make 300baht a day or $9.00. So after eating three times a day there isn't much left to pay rent or send home to Mom and Mom is always asking for more. Don't make yourself a target. Thai's like to have fun so if you can make them laugh they will treat you different and you will be less of a target.

What I learned when I was on active duty. 1st rule, learn the basics of the language of any country you are going to! 2nd rule never ever give them a real name, always say family calls me ____... whatever nickname you can remember. 3rd rule stay alert, wise, and sober when alone. 4th rule treat all encounters with them like a transaction keeping emotion out of it! 5th rule never ever give details to length of stay or arrival, you can reply I been around seeing the customs, traditions and some B.S. about how you're considering living there. If they think you're a future resource, they will see an interest in protecting you. Flirt with Momma-son and give her Suttle validation. It will go a long way to getting good deals and information. 5th try to get a hotel that has a guest safe or deposit box, some banks offer deposit boxes. 6th, never argue or raise your voice! You can win by remaining calm, professional, and avoid being a victim. 6th rule, remember always it is not your country and no one will rescue you, so play nice, have a plan, void emotions, have fun, do not get drunk when you're alone. And always carry money hidden in different places on your body. Never carry any valuables, if your not willing to give it away, do not carry it! Once you realize you're a walking dollar bill, you can have fun and be safer. And last but least, they are playing you so you play them with a smile on your face. When I am asked a question I refuse to answer, I laugh and then change the topic. Learn the art of using deflection when talking. They want your money, so knowing that, do not let them lead and control that conversation. This is where learning the basics of that language comes in. You can joke and get them into teaching you more of their language while causing them to forget what they asked you. At the same time, they will like you because of your perceived interest in them. I never bought a lady drinks, and I still ended up being respected by being assertive, keeping control of the conversation, and making them feel validated and respected, but at the same time not coming across as weak. I have been all over asia as a Marine, and Asians do not respect weakness! They understand No means no. Never ever count money in public, have your cash organized, and a place to put coins. They give coins and use those coins to pay. I am physically fit and tall, which also helps. They will stick to you like glue if they respect you, see you as a long-term resource. That is where deflection comes to play. Avoid giving personal information, everyone love mystery! The only guys I know who girls robbed them or walked out on them were jerks. Personally, I never had that happen because I treat them right with respect while remaining mysterious and yet giving off the perception that they have a possible future resource. Like anything in life, it is how you sell yourself and protect yourself!

I have a few tips to add that's been working for me. 1) Every few drinks/beers I pay my bill. That way I can keep on top of it and not end up spending more money that I bring and the fewer bills the harder it is to slip an extra in the bin. 2) Newer sit showing of how much cash you got. Generaly I never bring more money than you always have a bit more than I expect to use. Split up the money in different pockets. In one pocket I only have a bundle of 20s so it's easy to pick a note for a tip without having to look at the note. In the other pocket I have my wallet with the big notes and a small bundle with mixed notes. That's the one I pull out when I pay my bill. Then it looks like I don't have that much money and they soon loose interest in begging me for drinks or barfines. 3) Never get to drunk in a bar where you aren't familiar. If you come to a bar regularly and are a good costumer they will look after you and get you a motorbike when you want (or need) to go home. You're also an easier target for thieves if you're smashed at an unfamilar place. 4) It's way more expencive to barfine a girl from a gogo bar than from a beer bar. The girls there will also generaly as for a much higher amount for short/long time (often 2-3 times the amount you pay at a beer bar). However, if you do want to pick up a girl, be sure to agree on a price before you pay her barfine. Note to this. Thai girls often don't like to say no to a costumer, so they have another way to turn them down. Say if the pricerange for long time for that certain type of bar is 2-3000 baht the girl instead of turning you down would ask for double or triple that price. That way she expects you to say no to barfine her. 5) Don't sit up front to the podium if you're a 'Cheap Charlie' and only buy one pint of Chang draft that's gonna last the entire evening. You will fucking annoy everyone. Besides that there's also a chance that you will be told to move if there comes a big spender. The best spot are for those who spend the most. If you like to spend money tipping the girls you can always ask the waiter/mamasan to get 20s/50s for a 1000 baht note. Remember to tip the girl who brings you the money. When I enter a go go bar where I expect to sit for a while I usualy ask for change when I order my beer. Then I tip the girl when she brings me my stack of 20s. When I leave I tip the girl bringing the change after I pay my bill. Sometimes I tip some of the other waitress on my way out if I had any interaction with them during my stay at the place. And last I give the outside doorman a tip before I leave. That way I'm pretty certain to get in even if he rejects people saying the place is full. I get a good seat (the Cheap Charlies are told to move) and I can always get my 20s.

One more tip: Most of us who lived there long term know. "You can take a girl out of the bar, but you'll never take the bar out of the girl."
@suzimonkey3452 жыл бұрын
Remember that you are purchasing a young lady from a very different culture. These girls are desperately poor & often supporting many family members…I know that’s obvious! They wouldn’t be selling themselves to old Western men if they had real choices & freedoms in their lives. Anyway, in the West we are raised with a very romantic, poetic notion of relationships. Cultures who’s foundations are Christianity based hear statements like “the patriarchy” & are frequently told that our women live lives far from equality. I think this can blind people to true patriarchal societies in which women have far less choices & freedoms than men. I think that a cultural understanding could help a lot. We have the internet now, there’s no excuse really!!

I'm not a native speaker of Englilsh, and that's why the bar girls always ask me where I come from. I've been telling them I come from the North Pole since 1977, and so far nobody has understood me. 😁 Their English isn't very good. - Thanks for a very informative video!

With the tipping, when I'm at my regular watering hole in Patong, I'm aware that if I give a 100B tip I always give it to the staff member direct, another thing I say if a "Freelancer" comes up to me(not in my Thai friends bar because they are asked to leave) I said sorry I'm married to a Thai they generally leave you alone.

Take it from me, “ working ladies” are way cheaper then getting married. Lesson of the story : NEVER GET MARRIED. You’ll thank me later.

Champion! 27:00 (sorry! Edit) This is solid advice. I have zero interest in Thailand as some comments below have pointed out, yet keep getting vids about there . My future wife will only be a Filipina and definitely no bargirl. One tip I would add though, having had previous experience in Asia is never keep money in an hotel safe. You might find it skimmed. Also, never flash too much cash in the open and wear an undershirt moneybelt. Best insurance you can get for 2 dollars.... Wore one once in Monga, Taiwan (hhaaard area) with 5k aud in it.... Hotel was cheap. No safe. Good vid., well done sirrah!

Right about the coins- I bought a crafted tiny zipper bag , about a third the size of a regular gent's wallet, the other week, just about big enough to hold my coins and periodically check in that for whatever, and keep them separate from the notes.
