Respecting the culture of the country you're visiting is so important. We recently visited Japan where people are very stylish, but also very modest--they don't show a lot of skin. We saw so many tourists with low-cut tops, bare midriffs, etc. It just felt and looked disrespectful.

Beautiful background with the wonderful ebb and flow of the water 🌊. My parents love Greece, so pretty. I miss the European culture of dress attire ❤️💯. We don't dress with care in the U.S., like everyone used to 20-30 years ago, really sad. The cashmere scarf is beautiful as are the linen pants. Great video,enjoy your trip💃🌷💖

Who cares if you look like a tourist in Europe that's what you are. I try for a classic neutral look - no crop tops, tight clothing's etc.. When I travel I'm often out for ten hours a day and being comfortable is very important. If it mean wearing ugly trainers to deal with my feet issue then so be it...

I agree about Americans needing to put more thought into their clothes instead of looking sloppy and unkempt. I'm an American. The fact is there is no excuse these days because anyone can get nice "linen" pants, sandals, dresses, and versions of the other nice clothes you showed at Walmart these days for a very low price. There are so many lovely inexpensive clothes available now. I'm really happy to see younger ladies taking advantage of this and wearing linen blazers and pretty dresses.

@Antmadmanda That's the problem "some". But in general, Americans dress badly!!! We all watch so many live streams from all over the US and it's so obvious the Americans are mostly sloppy!! It's not a generational. It's a fact. Europeans are different,we go to the gym in gym clothes, not to the grocery store. We go to the beach in Flip- flops and bikinis. We don't go out wearing bikini tops with jeans or shorts. And as for sloppy, oversized T"s....I just won't go there! 🙄🤪

Wish I can forward your comment to my neighbor. She looks very unkempt in her old oversize clothing. She always announces that she is saving money for her kids and they all have full time jobs. That is all well and good but her appearance is a laughing stock in the neighborhhood. Her neighbors snicker at her when she walks by and she is clueless.

Some nice ideas EXCEPT the last thing I would pack for a trip would be white pants or dresses. I try to pack light and rewear most items. I can’t imagine doing that with white! 😂
@irairod51604 ай бұрын
But white is so easy to take care of! A quick rinse in the sink, and voila, ready to wear again! Dark color and prints, in tropical weather, give the impression one is trying to hide dirt or sweat or something nasty.
@johannas.l.brushane25184 ай бұрын
I got myself a couple of outdoor dresses, there are several brands as Royal Robins, Arcteryx, Fjällräven, Jack Wolfskin etc. They're functional materials, very lightweight and dry fast if just rinsed up and although if made for outdoor activities in mind they are fairly stylish and can work well with a dressed cardigan or a blazer for the evening. These are favourites of mine during summer even if I'm not traveling.

I am trying to put together a bit more elevated wardrobe for our next trip which includes Vienna. I don’t mind looking like a tourist when we are going to tourist areas - 99% of everyone there is also one. And if you take pictures you are pegged for a tourist anyway. I always dress pretty modestly anyway - mainly for comfort! And I have to have a hat - I get headaches from too much sun. So if a cute hat will go with an outfit I will wear it but plain dark baseball cap otherwise. My biggest issue right now is that I need shoes that I can walk in but nice enough to go to a concert. I don’t mind wearing white tennis shoes in the day with a dress but not at night. What a problem to have 😂

I also carry a Travelon crossbody wallet for short jaunts around the neighborhood.

I prefer wearing white only in T-shirts or blouses. White trousers tend to get dusty when you visit historic views and the risk to spoil them with tomato sauce etc. is high. - An other aspect of being immediately recognized as a tourist is the loudness if speech. In many countries people don't like a foreign language dominating the room. I say this as a German. I often feel embarrassed by my compatriots talking much to loudly in a café or restaurant.

I'm jealous! You're still there... I just (literally, JUST) returned from Greece myself. I wore a small crossbody bag that housed everything I needed (mini wallet helps)! I had a tote handy, but rarely did I need to take it with me. Of course, I had a rental car, so that may be the reason. I had fashion sneakers and flats. Was surprised to see you in kitten heels, given the irregularities in Greek streets and walkways. I adore your fashion choices! I also took white trousers (kept my Tide stick handy!). I do disagree somewhat with you regarding athletic clothing. Here’s what I saw first-hand: I saw Greek women (listen to the language if you’re not sure) in leggings, adidas athletic pants, athletic sneakers. I made friends with a European woman (from Crete, living in Brussels, visiting Greece), who was always in leggings and athletic sneakers. Her friend (Greek) wore athletic pants and huge sneakers as well. The others I saw on ferries as well as flights between the islands. You are right though, in that these women never looked dishevelled. Bottom line - if you are a tourist, you’ll be spotted! You’ll be walking slowly and looking around as you take in the sights. Locals don’t do that. So, while I agree it is important to take time to look put together - that’s part of the adventure! - I say wear what you feel most comfortable in. Feel free to run out and buy new clothes - just know you are doing it for the fun of it - you will not be fooling any professional scammers or pickpockets. Keep your hand on your crossbody bag, walk on the sides of streets (or airport walkways) - never in the middle of a crowd and just be aware of your circumstances. Then have fun. Ya sas!!

Here in Sicily, women only wear athletic clothing if going on a run or to/from the gym. And apart from clothing, you can tell the tourists by the way they step into/cross roads without looking anywhere. Getting in the way of traffic. Some even stop in the middle of the road to take photos 🤦♀️

As a larger busted woman (F cup) I am in search of a strapless bra and have given up. 😔 I avoid strapless, one-shoulder and spaghetti strap styles which rules out so many cute dresses and tops. The ones that cover supporive bra straps often look matronly. I have leaned in to linen pants and skirts with a fitted tank for hot weather but wish for more variety.

What I did on my trip this time to South Korea was bought a very lightweight polyester floral print top to throw on over my T-shirt. I instantly looked more stylish and blended in better. I would recommend that people check out some travel videos, walking videos of the city where they’re traveling to see what the locals are wearing. Even in elementary and high school we would carry gym clothes and keep them in a locker and then change back into dress clothes. There also were no jeans worn in high school.today with the style of everybody wearing all these gym clothes everywhere it makes people look worse. It does not make people look more beautiful or even nice.

I live in the Midwest and I think that sloppy, just out of bed look is a real thing here! Ugh! You are never too busy to change your shirt or pants when you are leaving your home. To say nothing if you are traveling! And as someone down below mentioned, nice looking inexpensive clothing is very easy to find nowadays. And if you don't like driving all over and spending time in malls and stores, you can find anything online! So there are really no excuses left. 🙂 I'll be going to the Baja in Mexico this Fall and I've already used many of your previous tips for putting together that vacation wardrobe! Thank you for the fun video and enjoy your vacation!

You are right about all of these tips. When we travel in Europe we go "carry-on only" so I don't have room to pack lots of clothing options. I do however, iron my clothing before going out. It's so important not to look messy. We pack lots of mix and match pieces in a paired down color scheme. We loved Greece and can't wait to go back.

I really enjoyed this video. Question though about wearing bright/bold colors ... I often think about Europeans in black or dark-colored clothing. Does this hold true in the summer months?
@50FabulouswithMyFriendDeirdre4 ай бұрын
Hi there. To be honest, European ladies do wear a lot of black. I don’t think navy is worn so much, except in France but dark colours, certainly in Greece and Italy are worn all year round. Xx

You're so right Deirdre, and few things make women look less beautiful than a rucksack. I don't mean them wandering in the Outbacks etc. but those in the cities and at the beautiful places. Nobody needs to carry half of the household there, torturing other by not having control over their bagpack.
@Antmadmanda4 ай бұрын
Has it occurred to you that many use a rucksack on holiday because they are doing fun activities, involving a change of clothes, layers. I don’t go on holiday to put on a fashion show or try to present myself as beautiful, I do fun things. Im not going to hike up the mountain with a tote bag, or carry my paddle boarding requirements in one🤦🏻. There are also those that require medical supplies, catheter bags etc., and mums/dads needing nappies etc for their babies. I’m 68 by the way.

@@Schlei602you are extremely rude, so it would seem you are no lady, stylish or not. Are you always this unpleasant . Try reading my comment again, without putting your own ignorant spin on it. Beauty comes from within, not from what clothes you put on your body. I enjoy fashion, but I’m not a slave to it. I know exactly what suits me, and how to dress well for whatever occasion or activity I may be taking part in. Have a good day if you can 😃

I'm American and live in Europe. On a Greek island, I saw another American, a girl about twenty. She was outside a Greek Orthodox church, wearing crotch-length shorts, a crop top with no bra, and flip-flops, breezing toward the church entrance past a sign in four languages including English that said, "Please be respectful in your dress." The sign specified: No shorts, No bare stomach, No decollete, This girl could not understand why the priest and everyone else was glaring at her. And she glared at me when I told her why. She read the sign but dismissed it as she didn't think it applied to her. It made me ashamed for her.

I have lived and worked in more than a dozen countries on four continents and have seen so much disrespect towards local customs, buildings and monuments by tourists of ALL nationalities. These people would doubtless be the first to object if tourists came to their home country and acted in a similarly-disrespectful way.

@HA-mn7si4 ай бұрын
People go to visit other countries to enjoy themselves and not to keep up with trends at any of these places. Style is subjective. I am European who lives in the states and I do think that Europeans most of the time are overdressed.

I’m from Spain and I can say we don’t always dress stylish and not everyone does. It mostly depends on the occasion and the city. In my city (Alicante) we tend to dress much more casual during the week with just a pair of jeans and a tshirt or a hoodie in winter. Many young people wear sweatpants or leggings if they’re going to school or hanging out at the park near their home. I saw a lot of comments of people saying they would stop wearing crop tops and such but at least for younger people that’s incredibly common. You have to remember that we have some of the same fast fashion stores as in the US (like h&m, Zara, etc) and that’s what they sell. I’d say the most important things to avoid looking like a tourist are not wearing a backpack, sandals with socks, not getting a major sunburn, not being out in the sun during the hottest hours (midday and afternoon), not wearing sheer clothes over a bikini unless you’re actually at the beach and not wearing hats. Also small bags are much more popular than big ones. And overall even if you dress kinda touristy just make sure you don’t look unkempt. Take a small hair brush if you have to, look at your reflection at a window and adjust your clothing. It’s all in the details!
