Been playing hippo exclusively from both sides, and went from 33 percent win percentage to 63 percent using this style opening. There are a lot of ways to get into the hippo as well to add to your opponents confusion, love the hippo! Great for lower rankings, blunder free opening, and a lot of people do not know what to play and will blunder eArly...free rooks are great! Just won my last game with full blown hippo...they blundered their queen on move ten.

It was fun. And in my own language hippo is literally "river horse" as Eric mentioned. As I am a beginner, Hippo opening seems to me a useful system based opening for black. Or if it is not, could you suggest some system based opening for black? I know it is easier to find one for white...

The theory isn't hard to learn, it mostly focuses on c5 or f5 and it gives you a good pawn structure so it's worth playing imo
