That's awesome! I like the Dutch as well, it's probably going to increase in some popularity too as Magnus Carlsen just played it against Vidit. Do you play the Bird's Opening as white (same thing but extra tempo) or do you go for a more traditional e4/d4?

My own limited experience with the Dutch has made me a fan of the Staunton Gambit as White. But Black, of course can defer the f5 move to evade that. Thanks Solomon, salut.

Me mate, I've recently started to learn a new opening for Black against d4 and your Dutch lessons have been delightful, as per usual. Nonetheless, I wish you cover other popular responses by White, like the Hopton Attack or Bf4, where in none of the cases White fianchettoes its white square bishop. Much love to ya, mate.

Magnus played Dutch against Vidit so I was just thinking about learning the Dutch defense and here it is best video.

Great timing! The Dutch Defense is definitely underrated for sure. We should be having more Dutch content coming out specifically covering the Classical, Stonewall, and Leningrad variations of the Dutch Defense.

Can you do a video on the Williams gambit in the birds opening? It looks like a very strange move but something unique to add to my repertoire if it is playable

@Big_No_See OK I saw the Williams gambit but I think it is very bad engine wise so I never looked into it. Does it have some good tricks?
@brandvi453 жыл бұрын
@@billi9230 there is a paperback on the opening that I haven’t read but there must be at least some ideas in the opening. there is next to no coverage of the opening online, there was a page which said that it can open up tactical opportunities against an unexpecting opponent but it doesn’t mention what they are. There is also a d3 idea after dxe4 which seems to have some potential king side attacks but the engine still doesn’t like it. the lack of information over the opening makes it hard to say if there is any real traps or not
@billi92303 жыл бұрын
@@brandvi45 yeah ok maybe I'll take a look at it eventually but I have better ways to defeat the Dutch. I play the Sturm's Gambit with 2. c4 and I also had to get all the theory by myself and it is great, some studies and it is working ^^

@TheChessGiant3 жыл бұрын
Hey Steven, couldn't agree more. Very hard to deal with especially if you've never seen it before. It's much different than most openings and can lead to some fun and exciting attacking chess.

What does your particular opening repertoire look like Solomon?
@TheChessGiant3 жыл бұрын
Since making a channel my openings have been all over the place! Back in my tournament days I played the Sicilian Najdorf, Nimzo-Indian, Scotch Gambit, Giuoco Piano, and Grand Prix Attack, etc. Nowadays I’ve been having fun with the Owens Defense and Vienna Game. My recommendation is just to mess around with different systems and see which one is the most fun!

I look forward to this video, cause I play it as white and the ideas will be the same

Ya Billi! Our next video will be a Bird's Opening game by Emmanuel Lasker and it has a slightly different twist than the main line of the Bird's Opening which white usually plays.

Hey Solomon, I have a question. Levy from Gotham Chess recently said in a video of his that the Dutch defense isn't really a good defense as we go up the rating ladder. What's your take on it? I'm barely 1000 rated and I always play the Leningrad Dutch against D4. I had good amount of success with it but should I stop playing it now and invest time in some new D4 defense?
@TheChessGiant3 жыл бұрын
Hey Alamgir! I would respectfully disagree with GothamChess honestly. Now, sure, with International Master and Grandmaster Players, there’s other options that give black more complex positions as most GM’s know how to guarantee a slight advantage against the Dutch. However, up to that point, I think the Dutch is great! The biggest thing about an opening is that YOU like it. Not if it’s “the best.” For example, the Ruy Lopez is considered by many GM’s to be the best, but I absolutely hate playing it. I like playing the Giuoco Piano/Italian Game. Some would tell me I’m giving up winning chances because it leads to a somewhat even position with it, but I’ve beat 2200/2300 players with it because I was comfortable. I would tell you if you like it, keep going! It’s a good opening for black, not for everyone, but good. Hope this helps!
@alamgirsani55313 жыл бұрын
@@TheChessGiant Thanks for clearing that up. I've decided to continue on with the Dutch since it feels really comfortable and straight forward to me. Thanks once again!
