Finally, Finally, Finally... You reviewed this Bulin stove system that I have had for about 3 (or so) years now. In fact I was going to plead you pick this system up for a review. I'm nearly speechless knowing HOW MUCH $$$ I've saved. Sure, it's a few ounces heavier, but do I give a rat's @$$... ??? ... No way!! Thank you for your reviews, you've saved me money on other gear for sure. For example the titanium Coffee Press kit you reviewed a while back. A multi-purpose kit that helps make a day trip or any outdoor excursion much more pleasurable. So again... thank you for your honest & concise reviews. AND for saving us an extraordinary amount of money... & disappointments. GREAT CHANNEL!!

That would be great product to use it for nearly 3 years! Yes there are many excellent quality Chinese brands and products all made in China for reasonable prices. I moved from popular western brand names to Chinese now. Yes there are crap too, but if you get the right one that will give you an EXCELLENT job, rather than wasting money on a brand name.

I got the reactor back in 07 or 08 when they first were released. It was around 150 when I got it if I remember right. I love that thing, and use it every time I go out. 250 is a nasty price now. That’s painful to see. If you don’t care about price- the reactor is awesome and will serve you a long time. I’m glad I don’t have to make that decision now.

You mean MSR American brand? Always excessively priced for nothing, but I get the similar quality Chinese products for a reasonable price. Same goes to my multitool, no more Leathermans or Victorinox but Roxon with interchangeable blades made out of great steel. Roxon does not sell over hundred dollar cork screws, nail files or nail clippers in their multitool but real men's practical work tools
@BentbrooksRambles3 жыл бұрын
@@truthseeker7759 I get that MSR makes pricey gear, but I’m not convinced of these Chinese knockoffs being similar quality. For example, I bought a BRS knockoff of an Optimus multi fuel stove. It has now failed on me after about a year of sporadic use (maybe 7-8 burns). My money would have been better spent going towards the Optimus. Ernie’s video is a useful introduction to this stove, but no one has field-tested this stove in the same way that the Reactor has been tested (for example, used on an weeks-long expedition to Lhotse, the fourth highest mountain in the world). The Reactor is designed for rapid and efficient snow melting and boiling; it is an expedition stove, not intended for, say, weekend warriors who are impatient for coffee. Ernie’s demonstration obviously doesn’t mimic those extreme conditions, nor does he pretend it does: he is simply introducing us to stoves. I find these videos useful, but they are certainly not definitive reports of long-term field testing in adverse conditions. It would be naive to assume from Ernie’s test that the similar boil time and efficiency of this stove imply similar long-term reliability and performance like the Reactor’s demonstrated 14-year history of field performance. Sure, I can go to Harbor Freight and buy cheaply made imported tools-I’ve done that, had them break, and regretted it-or I can invest in Mac, Snap on, or Matco and know they’ll last my lifetime: my point is there are good reasons to buy a tried and true stove system like the Reactor despite the cost. Dismissing the Reactor’s virtues simply because of its price point is foolish. I’m not in the market for an expedition snow melter, but if I were, I’d damn sure be inclined to go the MSR route when my life might literally depend on staying hydrated at elevation.

Wow, just got back from 2 weeks camping and was looking at this since I’m in California fire restrictions are high and understandingly so. I use Firebox a lot but with restrictions it means an approved area with propane or butane only, hence can’t use Trangia or firebox. After seeing your review I know I’ll be getting it, tried your link but sold out thus I had to go to Amazon directly, pity because I like to support your channel. Thanks! Since you like stoves as much as I, perhaps you can make a review of the Picogrill hobo stove which is finally in the USA from Switzerland. I also recently bought this same Bulin stove and pot to compare to my MSR Windburner remote stove system I feel the Windburner remote stove is a better stove to compare the Bulin to, and I would also definitely recommend it to somebody who wanted something like the Windburner remote but a lot cheaper. Somebody who really wants the Reactor over the Windburner probably wants it for its original purpose - under alpine conditions to melt lots of snow in a hurry. For such a purpose, the integrated design and lighter weight of the Reactor probably win. If I recall correctly, both the Windburner and Reactor have regulators built in, which is supposed to improve performance as fuel gets low, or as the temperature drops. The Bulin stove, I think, does not have the regulator. My main complaint with the Windburner remote stove system is it doesn't include a preheating loop to allow inverted cannister use - I feel that was just a missed opportunity. Neither does the Bulin stove, something that would have been a solid plus for it, if it had.

Very interesting video. I have tried several Bulin stoves in the past, and find them to be poorly made, and cheap. Personally, I would not trust a Bulin stove over the MSR Reactor, or any other stove that MSR, or Trangia make. To say that the Bulin is "way, way cheaper", is absolutely true; but, it's made way, way cheaper, too, and I simply find them to be lacking in quality. The MSR Reactor, and Windboiler/Windburner stove systems are TOTL, in my book, and they can "take a licking and keep on ticking", as John Cameron Swasy used to say about Timex watches! I'll happily pay more for a better quality stove, as in the case of the MSR Reactor when compared to the Bulin "el cheapo" copy. Just my experience and my thoughts. I'm sure other may be perfectly happy with a cheaper stove.... until it fails! Take care, and God Bless! - Doc

Thanks. Like you, I like MSR products. They work and they do their jobs. This little tool will be very stiff competition. My thoughts are, “Even if stove “A” is a minute faster than stove “B”, what in heck were you planning to do with that piddly 60 seconds in camp anyway?” It’s really more of a go/no go question. Does it boil water - Yes or no? Even a Trangia finally gets the job done, and they are a standard in the industry. I presently carry a Jetboil as a back up. A Littlebug Junior twig stove is my primary. At 5.1 ounces, it packs wrapped right around the Jetboil. Thanks for working to be thoughtfully open and unbiased in your reviews. It’s tough.
