game sux you have to restock every fight on ultra hard making it so damn tedious, it is ok the first 10-20 times after that the only idea of going to town and dealing with that stupid interface makes you alt-f4, restocking so slow and horribly is an unnecessary step for the game to be good

The game has numerous instances of "aim detection" where enemies know they are going to get hit in a weak spot and move just as you are aiming. Not a fan of it. I once saw a Sunwing stop midflight and do a 180 turn to avoid getting hit by my bow shot.

Another heavily underrated thing in HFW is purgewater. I'll be honest: the fact it removes frost/shock resistances is pretty useless outside of the early game since even midgame weapons either have strong enough stats to overpower resistances or enough versatility to get around it. But what is incredible about it is the fact it COMPLETELY nullifies enemy elemental attacks. You would be surprised just how much of a machines damage comes from the elemental side of things. Scorchers and fireclaws, predictably, are most severely affected by this (scorchers in particular get thier damage absolutely nuked, it genuinely feels like they deal a quarter of the damage they normally do). But by far my favorite way to use purgewater is to turn apex acud clawstriders into normal clawstriders. These things consistently one-shot me in the mid-game (and even late game) on very hard difficulty with thier ranged acid shot, and purgewater doesn't just reduce the damage that deals, but straight up removes it from thier available moves. Best tool for applying it imo is the corrosive blastsling thag can be bought in scalding spear, it's a bit annoying to buy since it requires a bellowback sac webbing but I'm pretty sure you can trade processed blocks for one.

Purgewater removes any Strong vs; Very Strong vs, (guess immunity too, not sure right now) Resistance. The Shock/Frost thingy might have been an alpha/Beta thingy. Also many machine attacks are hybrid (half Melee/Ranged, other half Elemental). Still a big damage reduce, but don´t expect do not just see any elemental attacks.

I found your channel way back when you were doing ZD Master Hunting classes. I watched and rewatched most of those just to get decent at ZD. I subbed back then and you were probably around 1.5k subs at that point. Fast forward 3 or so years and 75K subs later and here I am again watching and rewatching all of the great content you make for FW just to get better. Hi Arktix, I just want to say a quick "thank you" for your really great videos! I discovered HZD shortly after Christmas in the Steam sale. The game looked kind of interesting ... and what can I say? This purchase turned out to be the best 13€ I've ever invested. I then pre-ordered Forbidden West straight away - but this game is much more complex than the first part. Your videos are extremely helpful in understanding all the game mechanics. They are really well structured, always straight to the point, no long rambling, and no false promises through clickbait. Keep up the good work! I think I'll get some more coils on "normal" and Carja's Bane now, and then start a NewGame+ on "hard". So much more to do ... 🏹🤖🦖

The Piercing Sharpshot Bow had the greatest longevity in my (first) game. I got it early and it stayed equipped long after I had purple in all other slots, because the Delta only surpasses it at level 4, and Stormbird Storm Cannons for the level 4 upgrade aren't exactly easy to find. I totally overlooked Knockdown damage though, an almost criminal oversight since slowing down combat is great for someone like me, who tends to have trouble dodging reliably.

After watching your livestream, I grabbed the Knockdown Sharpshot Bow and started using that along with heavy melee attacks (for smaller machines mostly) to follow up with critical strikes. What a game changer.

Honestly, I still find the green Ropecaster useful early on for roping down small machines in fights where lots of them gang up on you. This can make those fights much easier. You will of course want to upgrade to a better one when you can so you can rope down bigger machines.

In your shredder video, I think you mentioned that Acid and Shock shredders have a much wider Tear radius; is this still true (specifically for PC) or has it been patched out?

They do still seem to have a bit larger tear radius than other shredders, but all shredders will do tear damage in a radius.

Hi Arktix... I use the crushing discs as if they were a weapon with infinite ammunition... I don't make them explode... for that I change weapons with the "L1" button and I wear the crushing gauntlet again to have the 3 launches again ...very large machines require 5 to 6 uninterrupted launches for you to activate "the elemental limit" but as I wrote to you... I do this without exploding any crushers... I have managed to defeat Slaughterspine's alphas without exploding any and with the bag filled with the 24 crushers... the most useful for me have always been the electric crushers... when their purge water bags burst, these Slaughterspine's alphas make the demolition task much easier in addition to allowing you You temporarily remove his ability to fill everything with plasma.

Very nice guide as usual. I feel there is more nuance to choice of Rain vs Carja legendary warrior bow. The key is Brittle. Are you going to Brittle your enemies? If so you need another weapon slot. Then I would I say use Carja because 6% Instant Burning will ruin Brittle. But if you decide to fight without Brittle which is the majority of enemies in the game then Rain of Sparks built in Critical perks are really good. With 5 ECC your critical hit chance is 95%!! That means basically every shot is critical and you then stack a huge amount of critical damage as well. Instant Burning stuns the enemy and if you’re lucky it will happen multiple times. Finally combining with Critical Boost Valar Surge takes it to next level. The basic question is whether Rain’s +15% Critical Hit Chance and +25% critical damage is worth putting up with the 6% Instant Burning status. If you don’t Brittle I feel like it definitely is.

I had no idea that strikethrough or knockdown arrows were a thing on my first two playthroughs (second was new game+ so I didn't need any upgrades or new weapons). Playing with all the tools on PC though, but strikethrough arrows are my main choice.

About the Knockdown Arrow, I found a better solution for it because it's quite slow to draw. There's a weapon technique for knockdown for hunter bows, and it's faster to draw, though it consumes a lot of weapon stamina. (But, this is not a big deal because there's a potion for it, and smoke bombs can also be used for gaining time for drinking that potion.) :) 🙏

Stamina consumption is insane 65 per shot. Luckily the shots wont decay, so you can take your time building them up and other knockdown effects do not consume them either, because they are their own thing. This also allows to time the Knockdown when you need it, if you stop 1 shot before the knockdown (Medium takes 2 Shots to Knockdown, heavies takes 3 Shots).

As I understand it, it's a limitation of Windows, unfortunately. The bluetooth protocol on Windows can't send all the haptic data, so if you want all the haptics you need to be plugged in with USB. It's a limitation they run into with pretty much every Sony PC port.

I think the elite canister ropecaster is really good (Idk if its popular or not so Idk if it's underated) good or not). i LITERALLY just beat the game today. On my second try of the final boss I used the Acid canisters and it got MELTED. With both Frost and acid canisters it's really good. The only way it could be better is if it had shock instead of plasma or if the canisters directly attached instead of being SO FLIMSY!!! It does take awhile to hit the canisters consistently though.

Personally canisters are easier to use as traps by sticking them to the environment instead of a target directly. Thus you don't have the extra havoc of trying to hit a moving target on top of dodging whatever is being thrown at you

Ropecaster, i hardly ever use those in this game. So slow and basically useless. Used them quite a bit in HZD. Shredder gauntlets quickly became one of my favourite weapons. Pretty handy on distance, and getting the elementals while tearing is pretty cool. Still explodes far to many parts though but at least less than the bows when they get strong.

Do the instant element chance coils work on the shredder? How about drill spikes? And does crit effect elemental buildup? Unfortunately, I'm not far enough into the game to test myself.

Instant Chance on the Initial hit seems to be the general rule for all one might consider if it hase multiple procc chance. But some instance are hard to test (because they are chances and needs huge sample sizes). Withoout Elite Critical Coils, Critical Hits do not help with Elemental Build Up, but do Help with Tear. Warrior Bows are the exception, there Crit increases Buildup. With Elite Critical Coils, crit seems to work for everything, Damage, Tear, BuildUp, KDP, but only for the increase the coils provide.

For some reason, my legendary bow with advanced knockdown arrows and +15% knockdown power and a dedicated elite knockdown coil, it took 9 hits to the legs of a thunderjaw before it dropped. Any ideas why?

Thunderjaw are Metal T-Rexes. It took 5 minute for a signal to move through the nerves, from the foot to the brain, giving it the signal to fall over.... just kidding. Sometimes Knockdown seems not to register probably, what the cause is? We don´t know, but maybe with PC we can find out.

Depends on which you prefer. I prefer the gravesinger for its more versatile set of ammo types and faster draw speed. Iriv's has a very powerful set of perks and the elite arrows, which are the strongest in the game, but more expensive to craft.

My fave warrior bow is the 'Rain of Spark' with 5x 25% Concentration Damage Mod. It's a cheat, practically, because using Concentration is already obvious in the first place, but this more than doubles the Damage, plus the 6% Instant Burning Chance means that almost every enemy catches fire before getting took down, so that weapon is too cool. Or hot, instead. 😁

There is no 25% Concentration coils, are you mixing up the percentage (15% is concentration) or the Coils itself? I´m curious, what is your reasoning behind "Concentration is obvious in the first place" ?

@@paristeta5483 True, it's the 15% one, I mixed it up with the High Ground 25% I compared that with recently. Okay, that's just 75% overall damage boost, still not bad. I called Concentration obvious because it's just one R3 button to push, the thumbstick our thumb is already on, so it doesn't only slow time, making the shot easier, but boosts morale, I mean, damage. 😁

Problem with Knockdown Sharpshot Bow: - where you can buy it, you can't upgrade it to level 3 (or it's difficult/expensive/with a lot of luck) - the Knockdown Precision Arrows costs twice as much as the damager's ammo and neither is cheap - where you could already hunt for the necessary ingredients for its development, there you can already get the blue Hardweave Sharpshot Bow, which is not a small improvement in terms of damage, especially when supplemented with weapon techniques and Valor Surges - why would you waste it on smaller machines, while larger ones require more, expensive arrows: solve situations easier and cheaper with damage (from ambush, from a distance, or with traps) The Exacting Sharpshot Bow requires a lot of green crystals to develop, although it is a very good bow at its level, but here it is easier to choose the Hardweave or the "free" Cleaving version from the point of view of development. I'd rather save the green crystals for the Glowblast Sharpshot Bow and Sunshot Hunter Bow (and for the +2 weave of some armor that can be picked up at level 3).

Knockdown Values do not directly improve with Upgrading. The might only indirectly due Weapon Perks. No need to update the Green One. It should also be able to knockdown any Light machine in 1 shot (besides the Stalker). But i´m very cheap, i just use power attacks instead, those are free 🙂

I gave up on knockdown arrows in favour of the drill spikes. Even with 10 leg shots machines just don't go down compared to 2 or 3 spikes. Huge waste of an ammo type in my opinion. But i found most statuses in this game less useful than just breaking off components for both farming and damage

The valor bar? Open the weapon wheel and it will show you in the upper right corner which valor surge you have equipped and what button to press.
