A safety tip when changing wheels. Put the spare or flat wheel under the chassis incase the jack fails. Also never put your hands or head under the wheel arch. Hold wheel by sides or spokes. Quickly spin on wheel nuts. My work colleague lost his friend to a jack failure! 😢 Take care out there. Enjoy your travels. PS doesn’t the cruiser have TPM (tyre pressure monitoring) as standard? You said in the video you didn’t realize the tyre was flat!

We have travelled on the Gibb River Road twice now, 2013 and 2015 and then it was not that busy. Once from Derby and the 2nd time from Kununurra. 1st trip 2 flat tyres, 2nd trip nil. Our van tyres are interchangeable with our LC200VX so in reality we had 3 spares towing 4 ton van plus a tyre repair kit. Enjoyed your trip with the revisits, ahh yes memories!

In 2006 my daughter and I drove through their after we done the east to west Crossing but when we went through the Ivanhoe Crossing we were clearly visible that those concrete pillars have to be shown both sides so you know it's safe you could hardly see the tops of the pillar on the waterfall side when we drove through and then we were told by the locals that we were the only ones who went through. But we did drive the opposite way because we had to go over through to Cairns to do the Cape York run then back to Brisbane and it was fabulous

A little tip when changing your wheels. Always put one wheel under the car so if it slips it's not going all the way to the ground. When you swap the wheels over repeat again put the busted one underneath for safety. And when you replace your wheels use a toy lever or the Jack handle to go underneath the tyre to make leverage up into place this takes the strain out of your shoulders and back

Great vid the van looks a good bit of kit. , how crazy with the 300 series having the tools under the floor needing everything removed LC 200 tools in the lower tailgate another reason I won't be trading up from the 200 anytime soon , Toyota need do better with jack & jacking point & the jack also. Temp up with speed can cause these problems, also too lower tyre pressures exposes the side wall to sharp rock damage a bit of a balancing act . We always use a Stone Stomper money well spent no damage. Safe travels.

Great video guys great tips seems like a very fine line between speed and lowering tyre pressures to make the ride not as bumpy over corrugations and if you want to avoid tyre heating up failure Do you think 60 ks -80Ks would stop this or an even lower speed ?

To me it looks like your speed was the factor in tyre blow outs… dropping pressure in the tyres will increase tyre temps …. So if you want to keep the speed up they will blow out…. We never did one tyre… but we kept our speed to 70k or less… with lots of stops to lessen the tyres overheating
@MountainTrailRV2 жыл бұрын

Did the Gibb last year on new LC200 with a camper trailer. I think the trick to having no tyre troubles is using mud terrain (built tougher) all round, dropping pressures to 20psi COLD, and keeping the speed down. I gave myself a top speed of 70, mostly 60kmh. Stop every hour to check tyres and bearings for heat build up. Watch out for some of the trucks, they are idiots.

Yes, great country. But tyre failures would more than likely be due to not driving to the conditions. I.e. too fast. I’ve driven the GRR on two occasions over the years and never had a tyre issue. (Vehicles were a P38 Range Rover and a Mercedes GLS350d, the latter towing a camper trailer.)

We have virtually no off-road accessories fitted to the vehicle, therefore if you want to add bull bar, winch etc it would be recommended to go for a GVM upgrade.
