Don’t Mistake this for an Airflow Issue! EEV overfeeding on Trane Tam 9 Air Handler

Hey guys and this video I'll be covering an issue I found during a routine maintenance.
The EXV was over-feeding due to a poorly mounted gas line thermistor. I do come across a lot of these on the Trane Tam 9 units, so I’m pretty familiar with the symptoms.

That’s a good catch a lot of techs don’t even know the symptoms of an over feeding meter device and will not acknowledge it and blame the compressor when it fails

Quick question, so if the eev was over feeding, how come the sub cooling was low instead of high? Great video btw

Thanks! Great question high subcooling is usually a result of liquid backing up in the condenser but when the metering device is overfeeding there's no back pressure being created in order to cause refrigerant to backup in the condenser... also the customer never even noticed this is just something I found on a routine maintenance.

Two reasons to have the thermistors well wrapped with thermal tape with tie wraps on ends of wrap. Air flow across sensor will raise the temp reading a bit and condensation on sensor will eventually intrude into epoxy wire end seal of sensor damaging sensor. Looks like you are showing a third reason of growing dissimilar metal corrosion. If someone had salty fingers on copper pipe before placing sensor clip on it that could create possible corrosion with moisture.
