I agree. For the longest time I was obsessed with being productive “the right way” as opposed to simply taking action. It was just productive procrastination at the end of the day
@vaughngene4 ай бұрын
I think we all fall into that at some point. I was definitely in the same boat, productive procrastination. Especially because watching a video these days makes your brain feel like you’ve done a lot (lots of editing and all).

An idea for a video: People consume so much information from audiobooks, podcasts, documentaries etc when your brain can really absorb a limited amount of info each day and you'll learn way more if you learn a bit, take time to absorb it, apply it so it solidifies. Instead of just consuming mindlessly looking for the next aha moment. A word that perfectly describes this is mental masturbation. I feel like this topic hasn't been explored too much on yt

That’s a good point actually. I have a video I’m drafting now about “how to learn from KZbin correctly”which goes into some ways to fix that issue, But I do think that subject alone needs its own video separately. Good suggestion! Thanks.

Very good approach on realistic productivity (or life in general). Many times, the attempt to improve life and attain certainty stops us from actually doing something.

Hey Vaughn, normally I have my suggested videos and home page of YT disabled. But out of sheer luck that wasn't the case on my laptop and I came across your channel. And I'm so happy I did. Your approach to those topics you speak about is so refreshing. Sometimes I get stuck in those toxic selfimprovement video loops and your videos really evoke a different feeling concerning these topics. Your calm way of talking about it is just so captivating. And I love your video style in general. No quick edits, no camera zooms, just you in front of a camera talking. And don't get me started on the background music, I love it! I'm assuming you composed it yourself, right? Could be straight out of the Minecraft / Zelda soundtrack! :) Anyways, you really are a prime example of an educated polymath. I'm 27 years old and I really look up to you, you have many traits which I want to add to my life in the coming months and years. Thank you for your work, take care! :)

Thank you! that means a lot. That's the exact vibe that I go for too. And yeah a lot of this is my music! Really glad these videos help you out though. I also dislike all the dopamine editing so I try to avoid it at all costs Lol.

Thank you so much for your amazing content and consideration. 😊 I’ve been feeling overwhelmed with tasks and in turn my ability to complete them. This video definitely inspired me to take action and begin noting my action steps. So, rather than jotting endless to-do’s and guilting myself for not getting a million to-do’s done, a ‘what action did I take today list’ seems the way to go. I also resonated with your celebration accomplishments video and plan to celebrating my baby steps from now on. And just for fun, these two steps will be my golden coins to level-up with joy just like Super Mario. Thank you again. As a new subscriber, I’m looking forward to your next videos. Take care.

I just found your channel and love your content! I have multiple interests too-filmmaking, guitar, and engineering. I work as a full-time video journalist, but I often feel like I’m missing out. I’ve tried learning software engineering and AI, but I struggle to stay consistent, though I’ve managed to stick with my guitar practice. I do get the fear of missing out. Have you ever felt like you’re missing out, and how do you cope with it?

I have a video about shiny object syndrome if you wanna check that out. It's a natural fear though. But understanding that it's not good for us is useful to know. kzbin.info/www/bejne/j4jJmmaNr7l8rtUsi=sI70B9vSSVuPws19

in regard to "theory/planning" vs "action" your brain needs "proof" not "promises"
@vaughngene3 ай бұрын
Yes absolutely! We get so much promises that feel like proof, but no actual proof. Escaping that trap is the key 👌

What would you recommend for someone who finds a lot of resistance towards measuring and tracking stuffs. I usually over prepare by doing less needle moving activities by looking the perfect resource and think of how to optimize my learning system (tracker). find taking action easier but I just don’t do enough of it to get to the level of mastery I want. How can I simplify the tracking aspect without procrastinating by looking for the best tracking system?
@vaughngeneАй бұрын
I don't track much of anything actually. The best way to reach goals imo is to just ensure you are learning something new each day or making your practice uncomfortable. This will naturally make sure that you don't plateau. Otherwise most people get caught up in numbers and tracking and all that (I used to also).

I like to make annotations for videos that teach me new and valuable things. So that is what I will do below. Thank you❤ NOTES/ANNOTATIONS FOR ME: 12:02 only take action, less preparing more doing and starting the goal, 13:38 do new things not review, 14:41 do not over research (14:58 healthy ratio method)
