@@MIgardener I've been enjoying them, even though I don't really grow for eating, well not everything. (Beans and lettuce...) I'm I still loving your videos. I mainly try to grow things as big as I can get them. This year my main focus is I'm doing radish, giant carrots, maybe long carrots, giant tomatoes... And a side project just really for fun trying to grow the biggest jack be little pumpkin. Last year I started it a and d already beaten what the Google search says the typical weight is. Off hand I don't remember the weight. I've did the jack be little pumpkin because my giant pumpkin plant last year died

There are different ways to categorize tomatoes. By size of the plant, by days of harvest, by purpose. You need to know your climate, what you are growing them for, flavor, color, etc.

I grew some of those micro tomatoes last year. They were delicious, but the plants got HUGE and I swear there were thousands of them and they're only the size of a pea and it just wasn't worth the headache. So I pulled the plants up and let the chickens do the work. Now I'm expecting an absolute forest of those tomatoes in the yard this year.

Micro dwarf tomatoes and dwarf tomatoes refer to the size of the plant. Currant or cherry tomatoes are referring to the size of the fruit.

My favourites after growing many varieties for the past few years (66 varieties last year alone!) are: Abe Lincoln, Kellogg's Breakfast, Great White, Delicious, Jersey Devil, Rose, San Marzano, Amish Paste, Old German, Black Cherry, and Rutgers for production only (the flavour is standard tomato nothing amazing, but it's a very reliable producer!). There's probably more but that's off the top of my head. This year I'll be growing 79 varieties 😂 To think, when I started growing them, I wasn't even a huge tomato fan 🤣

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! By listening to you, I have improved so much in my first year of gardening!! I appreciate that you slow down and take the time to explain things out. This will be my second year of gardening, in my first year I started with starts from Home Depot (tomatoes, hot & sweet peppers and cucumber plants). I almost killed them all within the first couple of months until my daughter told me to get on KZbin and search out the problems I was having and that was my game changing moment. I was watering way too much, I need to get fertilizer for the plants. I didn't know about "Up Potting", or using potting mix instead of soil from the yard.🤷♀I grew determinate tomatoes because of space I have a Container garden in zone 10b in So. Calif. I had a Roma La Roma III and a Bush Champion II tomato plants. They gave me so many tomatoes. I learned about propagation and grew another La Roma plant. This year I have sowed seeds for Amish Paste, San Marzano, Pineapple, Floradade, La Roma III, Rutgers, Celebrity and Tomatillo plants

In my neck of the woods, Dartmouth NS Canada the favourite tomato is "Golden Cherry cherry tomato, the seeds come from Veseys Seed in Prince Edward Island.. They are very similar to Sungold but not quite and Vesey's also sells Sungold seeds. I haven't been able to find Golden cherry from any other seed merchant in Canada which makes me think there are various names for tomatoes floating around. Tomato hybridising is such a big enterprise and quite secret I find your talks very interesting Thanks.

By far, my favorite part of gardening season is tomato time! It's where I started and once I realized just how many different varieties there were, I was hooked! The MIGardener store has one of the best selections of heirlooms that I've seen s far at a price that I don't feel so guilty splurging on a few different varieties that I want! Since I want a large sudden flush of easily reachable paste tomatoes this year I went with the determinate Ten Fingers of Naples, which has really good reviews along with my usual classic San Marzano for comparison. I'm particularly excited to try Ukrainian Purple and Ananas Noire, which I bought on a whim! Building lots of trellises this year!
