A lot of people are saying that Rachel Berry sang it better, but just remember, when this was made, the way Barbara is singing it is what was popular and trendy in music back in the day. More vibrato, a bit more nasal, less straight-toned belting... Since glee was made more recently, it follows what our current generation looks for in a “good song -“ less vibrato, less nasal, more straight tone belting. It really depends which style of music you like more. I’m sure if Barbara grew up in our generation and sang this, she would sing it like Rachel did in glee, and the same if Rachel (Lea) grew up in Barbara’s times. 🤷♀️ Edit: Still...barbara is an absolute legend.
@brookenelson82035 жыл бұрын
buttercookie slimery also, Barbara sang this without any auto tune... that wasn’t even a thing back then. In Rachel’s performance you can hear that she uses auto tune. I’m not saying she didn’t do a good job just saying what I hear 🤷🏻♀️

Astonishing. Genius. Not only a once in ten lifetimes voice, but she understands lyrics and musical dynamics like no one else. For example, the anger under the lyrics, the "Don't even think of getting in my way you f---ing losers!" No other singer can touch that version. It's like Garland's "Over the Rainbow." It is sacred ground.

Preach ... Fanny herself would be rolling over in her grave watching some fat chick (who can't even sing) playing her. Babs was actually too beautiful, but at least she captured the essence and would have been flattered:
@melizmatea2 жыл бұрын
Yup! Exactly!!
@paulastiles5507 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, this. The other versions mentioned in the comments are nice, but they miss a really crucial part of the song. This is a point in the story where Fanny is about to go chasing after Nick. She knows he's toxic. She knows he isn't in love with her. She knows he probably won't even be all that thrilled to see her. If anything, the movie greatly romanticized the real Fanny's obsession with Nick, which was even uglier and more sordid than in the film. For all this, Fanny *needs* to have this experience. She wants what Nick offers and she's willing to pay the price for it. It's right there in the lyrics. Only Streisand shows us Fanny's vulnerability, her need - hell, even her self-deprecating Jewishness (which makes her feel like an outsider) and poor self-esteem in that moment. This song is *so* not about being a beautiful badass. It's about Fanny being willing to take the fall for an experience she would otherwise forever regret missing. She's Eve. Nick's the Snake. And she damned well wants a bite of that apple.
