Today a viewer insisted that disposable propane cylinders can be refilled. They can be but it's unsafe and against the law to transport them if they've been refilled. • Flame King Eco Friendl... • DON'T REFILL DISPOSABL...

I'm assuming you are referring to the dipsossables. If it works for you. I choose and advise the use of bottles that are made and approved for refilling. They're construction is definitely stronger. If you can tell in the video I get a little peed when people use the comment section to be jerky. You are not one of those. In fact I appreciate other folks opinions that don't align with mine. Thanks for the feedback.

I personally believe the biggest problems most people have with a refilled bottle is twofold: 1) They are fragile and like to crack when dropped, and 2) People tend to overfill them when they Vent it to get it fully filled. I'm refilling the disposables, but I NEVER VENT THEM. That means they get 1/2 a pound, rather than a full charge. I've also noticed that the disposables like to leak, after a bit. If dropped or leaks, it's now trash. They stay outside.

Well, they were never intended to be refilled in the first place. I'm going to do a second part to this where I cut an empty disposable bottle and an empty refillable bottle in half to show the difference in construction and wall thickness of each cylinder. Thanks for the feedback and Happy New Year.

I seen so many preepers and others refilling the Coleman disposable ones that i just assumed they were fine, i really appreciate your bringing this topic to proper significance, in a survival situation you definitely don't need no unnecessary AVOIDABLE RISK! i for one will certainly be getting the proper refillable tanks, and only using these for 1 time use, its not worth the risk, but i actually overlooked the issue until now, so thank you!

Safety and liability may have more to do with It. In fact Coleman makes an approved refillable bottle called the Fuel Keg. So, that discredits your claim.

@silverstreak232

Show us your evidence. I have a thorough background in metals and metallurgy. I agree the valves are the biggest potential for leakage. But , there is a reason disposable bottles are intended for one time use. By the way go ahead and do the math I wouldn't mind.

How are they going to know that you refilled it if you don't tell them you did
@silverstreak232
@silverstreak232 8 ай бұрын
Now, these bottles that are approved to be refilled and are DOT legal are not expensive at all. It's up to you to determine if it's worth the risk. Let's say you pay $10 for a Coleman disposable or pay slightly more for a refillable. If you choose to go with the refillable bottle you won't have to worry, "How are they going to know that you refilled it if you don't tell them you did." That's my best answer. Thanks for the feedback. Have a good evening, Stephen.

I agree. But, when I have people leaving absurd and rude comments with terrible advice, I am not afraid to confront them about it. I'll be respectful as far as it depends on me. But, when someone throws the ball into the court with an inappropriate comment, they shouldn't get upset when someone takes it and runs with it. After all it's my channel. Nobody's forcing anyone to watch it.

I assume you're refilling disposables. I merely showed the difference between the two cylinders. The difference in construction is significant. The empty APPROVED bottle weighs almost as much as the FULL disposable bottle. The Flame King has thicker Wall construction and welds. It will withstand the extreme pressure of being refilled multiple times more than a disposable bottle. The disposables are made as cheaply as possible for one-time use. Now, if you ever become a statistic, you have no one to blame but yourself. Have a happy New Year.

I'll bet you don't run with scissors, either... so long as you don't overfill them, propane is propane. They don't go through stress cycles because they are under a constant pressure so long as there is liquid propane in them. They also make great recovery tanks for automotive refrigerant.

No I don't run with scissors. And I sure as hell won"t take any advice from someone who says they make great recovery tanks for AC refrigerant. I have EPA universal certification in AC and refrigeration. What you're saying is absurd.

@@silverstreak232 "Absurd?" What is the room temperature pressure of 134A vs Propane? They are virtually the same. If the world were filled with people like you, there would be no engine swaps, DIY solar systems, go-carts powered by lawnmower engines, etc... No, sir, I am not the one here who is being absurd. There is no problem with people using something, within its physical limitations, but outside it's original purpose. It's part of what makes America... America.

I appreciate the concern due to the dangers of gas but citing the fear of being "busted " in a traffic stop with a refilled tank is honestly absurd. I ask you to find one single reported event where this was prosecuted. I'll wager almost zero law enforcement know of this and have no method of proving it in a court of law. It's just a red herring threat which makes having a difference of opinion less valid. As far as the material thickness, the Coleman brand containers are over built and have to be built so to withstand a level of physical impact, heat induced pressure and longevity of the seals on the tank. It is simply in their financial interest to say do not refill. You cannot argue that one safety label is important while another is not. You either choose to abide by the law completely or you don't. Again, I disagree with what you're saying but I support your sharing a different viewpoint. History though will be the true decider here and so far history is on the side of those who refill and unless we start hearing about deaths and injuries directly related to refilling I sincerely doubt anything will stop people from refilling. Cheers.

@rimfireAddicted70 I appreciate your feedback. In the end the individual is responsible for their own actions if it affects only them or others. If you use something thats actually approved for refilling and transporting, then you don't have to worry about the WHAT IFs, or WAS THERE EVER A CASE THAT WAS PROSECUTED. I appreciate differences in opinion too. Thanks for your feedback. Have a good evening

"How would they know"? It's called Fire Investigation. The Forensic Engineers that often are working with Fire Investigators could fairly easily determine any single-use bottles found at the scene of a fire had been tampered with after examining the vent valve and it's condition. If it was determined the bottle had been tampered with and refilled and you survived, all I can say is start working on your strengthening your grip on bars of soap.
