Sure, but not all songs have a consistent tempo all the time. Tempo can change, or if it has a live drummer in the recording it will vary. It’s a good skill to have on your toolbelt so you can play more tracks, or deal with something when inevitably something in your “homework” went wrong.

@@cornation515 well i tell you something. The “community” used to be formed by people who could at least put 2 records together by ear. Same as the community of guitarists is formed by people who can play the guitar. Putting 2 records together is a lot easier than playing guitar btw. And beatmatching plays an important role in the development of a dj. Since the sync came out any instagram wannabe can “dj” which is progressively lowering the quality of shows, the crowd and the whole musical experience. Beatmatching used to be a filter between the people who put the time to learn, practice, and had a minimum amount of talent. Now everything goes… any dbag can become a “dj” within a week. Can’t wait for 95% from your fav dj/producer influencer’s own tracks to be made by AI.

Thank you for making this video. As a dj it seems like everyone relays on sync and using waveforms and beat matching is an outdated way of mixing. it works both ways. I know a lot of purists who hate it when someone uses the sync function even when it sounds good... yet, when I listen to their mixes any layering in their case takes a few seconds to fix the out of sync beatmatch, which is really annoying to listen to. We play music for the people, not to show off to other DJs, so everyone should be able to use both and choose what works better in a given context imo

A tiny amount of basic music theory avoids this whole problem. Track analyzers are actually pretty bad in my opinion. They miss down beats, the almost always have the wrong key and even the beat grid isn't perfect a lot of the time (which makes two tracks mixed by sync "click" as the rhythm elements cancel each other out on the wave form). If I am messing around at home, beat grids that unmodified are fine. But if I'm making a mix or performing, I always take extra time with the tracks in the play list to make sure they're better prepped. I think this tip should be more about track prep and understanding when the "one count" or "down beat" of a song is (given the example), than basically saying "sync is bad". Feel free to hate, but I don't see anything wrong with Sync. It's a tool, use it appropriately. Most of the time, it's easier to beat match by ear. I do it when I'm feeling extremely lazy or someone has come to talk to me in a transition. Relying on it is really bad because it limits the types of transitions you can perform because mixing isn't always about syncing two tracks perfectly.

That’s just because the track wasn’t gridded right. Adjust the grid and it will sync up. I rarely use sync unless with tricky acapellas what just won’t seem to stay put. Plus I feel if you don’t nail the acapella absolutely bang on that it just robs the whole idea behind the mashup and it’s a bit of a bummer if it dosnt hit right on the money perfect.. a good example of what I mean is if you check James hypes boiler room set (London one) he keeps chopping in fisher you little beauty vocal and it’s just something what is slightly out to start with and he makes quiet a meal of it. But sync could have saved it, because to hot cue it in perfect is near on impossible. So sync has its uses but shouldn’t be relied on as said. But as for normal transitions and mixes don’t rely on sync as it can be a mil or two out anywy with certain tracks so use your ears first and foremost 👍
