The worst bit bout owning a motorcycle in Florida is getting your bike stolen straight outta your apartment complex's guarded parking garage. A friend of mine had her bike stolen not two weeks after moving into the apartment. Can't imagine paying so much on rent to have your bike stolen from a supposedly safe place.

Yeah in FL you have to expect your motorcycle to get stolen. You have to bring the motorcycle in the apartment or house to keep it from being stolen. My one friend in FL had every single motorcycle he ever owned stolen, about 4 of them. It got to the point where he stopped buying motorcycles and hasn't owned one since the last one he got stolen.

I've lived in South Florida my entire life. There has never been an insurance requirement for motorcycles. I started riding a KZ400 in 1978, at the age of 15. I got a KZ1000 when I was 16, and a new GPz1100 when I was 17. I've only been down four times, with a car being involved twice. After wrecking my GPz1100 in late '81, I decided I was done with that silliness. I've only dropped a bike once since, when I was cutting across a deep lawn at night, about 10 years ago. If you were riding in Istanbul, your opinion about Florida would change. I have been riding a motorcycle since 2006, I have no license plate, I do tons of wheelies, I pass in the emergency lane, I enter the toll roads illegally, I have never been ticketed because the cops are too incompetent to catch me, and there are millions of people who think like me, this place is a real savannah. You should definitely experience Istanbul, you will definitely enjoy the lawlessness. On the other hand, I have been to Florida once, what I saw was extremely peaceful. :)

I lived in northwest florida for years. My Yamaha Xt600 got stolen twice. The first time was from Fort Walton Beach and thief rode it to Ventura County Cali. He got caught, I got it back and my insurance repaired it. The second time, it was stolen from Navarre Beach. I didn't get it back that time.

I feel the same way about riding in the land of Fruits and Nuts...California. Every time I ride there I have some close calls with crazies both in cars and on bikes. I certainly wouldn't let that stop me from riding there, or in Florida . You can avoid them if you're vigilant.

So Cal has the worst drivers, horrible. However, I still believe FL has the worst drivers. My mom stopped driving a car in FL because it is so bad down there and she was a driving instructor at one time in her life. My mom and sister live in S. FL and I refuse to even visit them down there, they have to come to Cleveland. lol I left FL in 2001 and haven't been back since, that is how much I hate it down there. I've been trying to get them to move back to OH for many years. It is so bad in FL insurance companies have pulled out of FL. Insurance premiums are outrageously expensive.

I lived in Ft. Lauderdale for almost 2 years while attending NOVA. I moved down from PA after a divorce with my klr 650 and the clothes amd itemsi could haul. I commuted from FT. Lauderdale to tamerac every day for work. Needless to say i was stopped 4 times in that period just so a cop could hand me pamphlets on how dangerous it was to rde a motorcycle in florida. It was hot, but i always wore my gear. Oh, and i should mention that i went through 4 sets of rain gear in those 2 years. The worst part was iguanas falling on me from the trees while i rode home at night.

Reason being....when traveling from the North East heading South it's become mandatory, when crossing the North/South Carolina border to stop at the welcome center and take a stupid pill. When crossing into Georgia take another....and yet a 3rd at the Georgia/ Florida border.

FL does not care about its motorcycle riders. Sad. However, here in Ohio, licensed riders can ride without a helmet too. However, when they crash and get brain damaged and out into a nursing home for life out insurance rates go up, so we all end up paying for squids.

In Florida, the reason for that is because if you wear a helmet full time you DO NOT have to have motorcycle insurance. But, if you chose not to have a helmet, and the police stops you, the first thing they will ask for is your insurance and that's because if a motorcyclist decides NOT to wear a helmet, they must show proof of insurance. It's the law !!

My former neighbor got killed on her Harley down there, driver plowed into her. RIP.

3 bikes got boosted here at my complex. We're in Olympia,WA. I got disc locks, front and rear and a Kryptonite chain connecting both rear wheels. It's cheaper to spend a couple hundred on security than it is to replace a bike.

As a New Yorker, I can tell you people drive crazy here as well, not a place to ride your motorcycle. It's doable if you are 100% confident and know the roads like the back of your hand. However! When I went to Miami holy dear god... the drivers down there were so insane you swear they are trying to purposely kill you

Flew into Orlando rented a car to drive an hour and spent 5 days. I didn't think I was go To survive the traffic, It's like they all drive with their eyes closed. As the the heat and humidity ,that no lie, I was never so happy to get of a place except NY ,and shitcago as FL. The gators can have it.

Here in the DMV area it's insane, especially the Maryland drivers and honestly there's so many foreigners and diplomats and stuff and they can't drive here. Plus all the people that move here to work in DC and they're not from the city and can't handle city driving and big busy highways

I agree partly with what you're saying. Motorcycle accidents are higher in warmer climate States. With colder climates motorcycles are seasonal which in turn has lower accident rates. Now I totally agree with the elderly drivers and also Those from other States who move to Florida, but even with the latter, it's not that they are bad drivers, just that each state you go there are different driving conditions that figures into how non Floridian born drivers drive. But the theft part is 100. Mofo stole my bike underneath my window.

I live in Jacksonville, florida. Unfortunately, a young guy got rear-ended on 95 as we were driving to a job site. We have some of the worst drivers here. I would not recommend commuting here. I pic my times to ride. I'm sure there are worse places. 😮😮😮
